Systemless in a Parallel World

189 Worst of the worst

While Zayn's progress and the expansion of the Spirit Army were exceptional, to the point where it didn't make sense at all, there were considerable drawbacks as well.

Two weeks after the Natural Selection War began, the Demonlings destroyed one of mankind's shelters. Shelters were like indestructible fortresses that were spread across the border of mankind's territory.

They had been constructed through the sacrifices of millions of powerful Blessed and Normies at a time when all humans had been forced to work together as they didn't want to die miserably.

In an era full of pain and suffering, mankind worked together. The shelters were the best evidence of mankind's power and what they could achieve as long as they worked together. Such a shelter had been conquered under the constant attack of more than four million Demonlings.

Their rank might have been lower than the strongest defending Adventurers, but their numbers made up for the lack of power.

With less than a thousand Soul Adel and only a few dozen powerful Adventurers above the Soul Adel rank, they couldn't handle the Natural Selection War.

They had been strong enough to decimate the Demonlings, eradicating close to two million Demonlings over the course of two weeks, but the remaining energy of the defenders were fully drained in exchange. Even the reserves evaporated in no time.

At the same time, the reinforcement had to deal with the remaining forces of the Demonlings. They didn't even make it to the shelter as hundreds of thousands of Demonlings breached through the borders with little to no effort. Thousands of them died in an attempt to make it inside the human territory, but that number was not noteworthy in exchange to the real numbers of the forces.

Demonlings may only be newborn Demons without much combat prowess, but they were born with several Soulrings. Their Soulrings were intact, and the only issue they had to solve was to fill the empty Soulrings. Thus, in a matter of months, powerhouses without much combat experience could be created in the Demon King's territory.

Gaining experience, collecting food, and naturally eliminating the weakest Demonlings was what the Natural Selection War was made for. However, this time, everything was different.

For the first time in centuries, one of mankind's shelters had been conquered. But that was not all. The Demonlings were able to enter the human territory and kill countless innocent people.

To maintain their food supply, many humans were kidnapped as well.

The news of mankind's failure reached the Normie Union as well. However, there was not much they could do. The Blessed never bothered about them, so why should they? That was what many thought.

However, there were also many Normies who wanted to be better than the Blessed. They wanted to show that Normies were good people and that they shouldn't be discriminated against.

These Normie left the Normie Union's headquarters to save the innocent humans that had been kidnapped.

They were successful and came back less than two months later. The issue? Countless Demons pursued them!

Was it even possible to make things worse for the Normie Union – except for countless powerful Demons pursuing the Normies, who were already struggling with protecting thousands of weak humans? Yes, it was possible. There were multiple ways to achieve that, and several of the worst-possible cases combined, creating a Calamity.

First, the three Big Legions and all other armies of the human race combined their forces to put together a rescue team. They eliminated the Demonlings that had charged into the human territory, reclaimed the destroyed shelter, and made their way to the Demon King's territory.

At the same time, Zayn and the Normie King had been out, hunting Demonlings.

Whether it was fate or the worst luck in the annals of the whole universe, the Normies who rescued the innocent, kidnapped humans, charged straight to Zayn and the Normie King's position – dragging the powerful Demons alongside.

At the same time, the rescue team that had been made up of the strongest Blessed charged in the same direction; toward the ignorant Zayn and the Normie King.

That was how it all started.

The direct subordinates of the King witnessed how their own kind was slaughtered and their Souls enslaved by a human. Demon Spirits slaughtered their brethren mercilessly, and more were created.

At the same time, the strongest Blessed watched the destructive force of a single Normie. They began to understand the reasoning behind their God's missions and why the System handed them more missions to obliterate Normies.

If more Normies like the young Soul Adel, who controlled thousands of Spirits, existed, it was only a matter of time before Normies would conquer the human territory in its entirety.

But even worse was that the Spiritmancer Normie seemed to possess a Spirit that could devour corpses and produce masses of soul particles after the corpses were digested. This meant that the Normies had a way to increase their strength rapidly, worse even…the Spiritmancer could increase his rank rapidly, expanding his Spirit Army!!

Both the forces of the Demon King and the strongest Blessed of humanity unraveled Zayn's secrets in no time. Observing him for a mere minute was more than enough time….it was enough to make both parties understand that the Spiritmancer was the biggest threat to both sides.

The Natural Selection War was almost over, yet the worst of the worst cases occurred – all at the same time.

Zayn was exposed by the strongest Blessed and the Demon King's forces simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Zayn was completely oblivious. He and the Normie King finished the battle ahead of them. They killed more than 20,000 Demonlings in less than 20 minutes. The only thing left behind were corpses for Glutton to devour and Soul Wisp for Zayn to absorb.

He absorbed the ownerless soul particles of the weak and summoned the strong, further expanding his army.

If not for the sudden arrival of the uninvited guests, everything would be perfectly fine. Unfortunately, the guests had arrived, and they didn't seem all too pleased!

'We have to kill him!'
