Tales Of Pristinia

Chapter 19 - Dark Epitome

Drey fell unconscious and the battle fell to Marze and me. We must not waste this chance that Drey provided for us. We must end this dark fairy here. The dark fairy came, like the summer breeze so swiftly blowing from the sea, destroying everything on its path.

"Here it comes," Marze said.

"Let's go," I ran towards it and cast Tailwind. Of course, the fairy was impervious to that spell but it managed to blow the clouds away.

"Concentrated Pierce," Marze shouted as she engaged the dark fairy. However, even though our statuses are buffed and the dark fairy weakened it was still very formidable. The dark clouds came back and we retreated.

"If only I could use earth type spells," Marze murmured.

"What did you say?" I asked.

"Fairies who are inclined to air are weak against the earth element, remember?" Marze answered.

"Yeah, I know that," I replied.

"If only we can use an earth spell that can hit something that is flying!" Marze grunted.

"I think I know something!" I answered.

"Really?" Marze replied. "Then let's use it."

"Here it goes," I cast constant magic on the ground.

"Hurry that thing is coming again," Marze bade me.

"It isn't as easy as it looks!" I forced my will into the stubborn earth. It was pretty heavy but I managed to move it. It wasn't that moveable though. The dark fairy is pretty close so I mustered every bit of strength I have and forced what I want on this intransigent piece of land.

"Just get it ready Lance," Marze said as she went to engage with the dark fairy.

"Marze don't!" I cried out to her.

Marze fought with the dark fairy. Because of the buffs and the fairy's debuffs, she was on par with the fairy. However, the clouds surrounded her and she was in trouble. I poured out all of my magical strength and energy. I focused and focused on embedding and controlling the earth with my magic. Finally, I managed to lift it. My hands were trembling because of the difficulty of magic control. However, now that I am able to lift it, I hurled it towards the clouds of death. I was hurling the earth and the Magus Regalia appeared and recorded the new spell that I created "Boulder Crush," it said! But not what I imagined it to be. I hit the dark fairy and somehow rescued Marze.

"Come back Marze!" I shouted and she retreated.

"Thanks for saving me," she said as she approached.

"Don't ever do that again!" I replied.

"Well, what's the plan?" She asked.

"I'll target the fairy with Boulder Crush while you will use a ranged spell," I said. "We must end this battle here, for that, I'll clear the path for you using Gale so strike the enemy with all your might!"

I cast Boulder Crush and Marze used Aqua Render, though the water she used was from the dark pools, we hit the fairy.

"It seems to be weakened, now is our chance!" Marze charged to the fairy.

We rushed to the fairy and I cast Gale. Unlike other spells, I can control Gale and make it go where I want it to go. I can also control its duration cast in exchange for magic energy. I blew the clouds of death away. It made me control the air around the clouds, which made the clouds controllable. It seems this is the spell that I needed for stopping these clouds. The halted clouds were no longer a problem for Marze. She rushed towards the fairy and shouted, "Valkyrie's Resolve!" Her trident shone lightning blue and she pierced the fairy with it. We did it! The dark fairy was incapacitated. Our necklaces then shone and it was rid of the darkness.

After the battle, we tended Drey. His condition wasn't serious, he was just afflicted with fatigue. I cast Heal to the three of us. It was getting dark so we decided to call it a day. I cast Growth to summon trees, where we could take a rest. The night fell upon us. The barren dead battlefield had a deafening silence and only the trees that I summoned grew. The night was cold in the barrenness of the marsh. We made a fire that was weakened because of the marsh's water affinity. I felt very cold. Marze also shuddered. I went beside her and hugged her.

"What are you?" Marze blushed.

"It's cold," I replied. "This is the only way we can warm up. Let me be the blanket the warms you up."

Marze hugged me tighter. Her hands felt cold as ice. I used my cape to cover our backs and keep us warm. As the darkness deepened, the cold became chillier. We were surprised though, Drey was sleeping so soundly even though its cold. Is this also an enchanter ability, imperviousness to cold? We leaned against the trunk of one of the trees. We kept ourselves warm, and as time passed, drowsiness crept through our bodies. I can hardly keep my eyes open, but I had to stay watch. Marze was already sleeping and Drey was overcome with fatigue, only I can protect us at this time. However, tiredness overcame me and I fell asleep.

The light of the sun then shone upon the secluded barren area of the forest, which woke me up. I looked around. The two were still in silver slumber. I dared not wake them, so I slowly moved out. I indolently moved out of the trees to the barren battlefield, upon which our battle was fought. I looked across the field, towards where the marsh resumed, and through the dark pools cleansed by darkness. Then the next thing I knew, a thick fog enveloped the area. I knew who it was already.

"Our battle has scarred the mystic marsh Breanna," I said.

"Perturb not on the mystic marsh," she replied. "I can easily revert it back to what it once was."

"I see," I answered. "How many of your children are still in darkness?"

"The one whom you purified on the day before this was one out of thousands," she replied.

"What!" I was surprised. "Purifying one is very difficult, how much are we going to do with thousands?"

"There is a method by which you can purify all of them at once," Breanna said.

"How?" I asked.

"You must purify the source," she said. "The first fairy to be consumed by darkness."

"Who is this fairy?" I asked.

"The first fairy to be consumed by darkness is an elementalist by the name of Rein H. Rose," she replied.

"Rose?"

"Yes, she is the sister of Wendy and the aunt and teacher of Ancandrey."

"Where is she?"

"The journey in finding her will prove useful to your strength for you right now are no match for her. Your journey will lead you to her, it is inevitable. Remember this when you face her, bonds are worthwhile but they may not lead you to the path of light. Trust in yourselves and trust in the wielder of the Four Winds."

Then the fog dispersed and the area that was supposedly barren became lush green with trees. And the dark pool that was cleansed with darkness became teal and pure. I found myself back to where we camped. The two were still asleep. I meditated and thought. Our next opponent is far stronger than us. I must become stronger and protect the two of them.
