Tales Of Pristinia

Chapter 34 - Dispel

Suddenly, the staff that Drey held let out a bright light.

"Dispel," Drey shouted. And a wave flash was released.

I was about to collapse until I felt energy surging back to my body like river running wildly.

"It seems you have finally drawn the power from that staff," Rein cast another enchantment. Marze rushed in in an attempt to stop her. I supported her with Gale. It was a direct hit, however the damage was back at us. I was blown away by my own spell.

"Can't you do something about that enchantment of hers Drey?" Marze said as she stood up.

"I'll try to cast Dispel, when she uses that enchantment."

"I'd like to see you try," Rein replied.

We rushed her again. Marze this time used Lightning Strike, I attacked with a lightning spell of my own, and Drey readied for his enchantments.

Our spell was about to hit, "Now, Drey!" I shouted.

"Dispel!" Drey enchanted. Our spells hit her, however, it seemed to have no effect and to make things worse, our attacks came back at us.

Rein laughed at our failure. "You still don't get it do you?" She made a very frightening grin. "Your enchantments are for living and non-living objects. However, my enchantments affect both time and space. With that weak excuse of an enchantment, do you think you can defeat me?" She continued antagonizing us. "Okay, for your ignorant mind, Reversal is a spatial and temporal enchantment. It turns back the time of a certain space and makes it belong to the enchanter."

"Is that so?" Drey's face suddenly lit up. "Then I'll just have to learn to enchant time and space then."

"Lance," he continued. "Use air element spells from now. Marze use water element spells that you know."

"But will not those attacks come back at us?"

"Just trust me, I just remembered something."

"Okay," I said. "I trust you."

"Let's do this!" Marze was revved up.

I cast Gale, while Marze drew water from thin air and used Water Render.

"Now focus your attacks at her," Drey said as he pointed his hand at our spells and the Staff of Four Winds lit up.

"Pathetic! Can you not think of..." Rein said but was interrupted as she took a direct hit from our attack. "Impossible, what did you just do?"

"Lance, Marze, just keep those attacks going."

Marze and I continued our spells and Rein took successive and consecutive hits. However, our attacks seem to have little effect. Still, we continued our assault and cast Gale after Gale, Water Render after Water Render, until we were too tired to do so.

"Are you tired now?" Rein smirked. "My turn."

She came close faster than before and used successive enchantments that took out our defenses.

We were going to be beaten now. Marze was incapacitated while Drey layed on the freezing floor. I was the last one standing. I knew that without Drey's enchantments, my spells would just come back and hit me, so thought of making the battle physical. However, her enchantments got the best of me. I fell to my knees, until I eventually fell flat on the freezing floor.

My consciousness was disappearing. This time I utterly and completely ran out of energy. My body felt numb. The cold floor felt painful. I turned back to see Rein getting closer to Drey. She was attempting to enchant something. She was going for the Staff of Four Winds, however, the staff rejected her.

"Just like in the book huh?" I though to myself.

I just watched Rein tried her hardest to wield the staff. However, everytime she tried a strong Gale just blows her or the staff away. My vision is starting to dimmen. Falling into subconscious never felt this fine before. As my eyelids closed, the last thing I saw was Drey regaining consciousness.

"Drey what are you doing?" I thought to myself. A thought that I wanted to let out. However, how much I tried to force myself, I just can't get a word out of my mouth, much less make it respond to my will.

Drey just stood there. He reached out his hand and the staff that Rein was chasing after came to him. Rein looked furious as she flew straight to Drey.

Drey, meanwhile, was whispering something to the staff. The staff glowed even brighter than before. I tried to keep my eyes open, however, unconsciousness seems just to be very luxurious. And when the two engaged, the staff glowed eminently bright and let out a wave of shining shimmering shine which took my consciousness away.
