Tales Of The Machine God

Chapter 9 - Data Log - 009: Designation - The change

Pisces sat shocked at the notification that appeared before him. This was unheard of, a God should only be able to share messages to people through dreams and divine messages much less an envoy. The voice of the world was something that dated farther back in history than any of the Gods, it was an untouchable insurmountable wall that had never changed since the invention of writing. Not only did the envoy use the voice of the world, but it used it to spread it's God's doctrine. Pisces was not the only one staring blankly at the small screen every being within a 50km radius stood still to stare at the message from the voice of the world.

I quickly moved through the tight alleyways avoiding any who would want to take my treasure, said treasure was a small tear of bread he had managed to swipe from the baker's window. Slowly I came upon the small hole that was my home, as I moved into the space between the cracked brick wall the bread soon disappeared into my mouth leaving me with nothing but hunger, however, my isolation wouldn't last long as I was quickly interrupted by the voice.

The message shocked the child as he quickly rushed back to grab his rusty knife. After a short time of closed eyes and outstretched knife, the boy opened them back up. He quickly read through the message though he didn't understand all of it he became captivated by its presence.

As he began to focus on the message that lied before him he felt a burning d.e.s.i.r.e to move north, he did not know what it was but he moved northward. All the while a smile decorated his emancipated frame.

I felt the think leather boot of the giant man impact my stomach as I was kicked out the door. I flew across the street and impacted the wall behind me all the while listening to the laughter of the thugs that simply kicked me out. If they couldn't see the use in having a mage in their group could bring then they clearly wouldn't last long. While it is true that a metal affinity was not that useful they needed anything they could get. As I walked through the small side streets changing and moving the metal band that rested on my arm I was interrupted by the voice of the world. Thinking I had just upgraded my ferrokinesis ability I quickly looked to see what bonuses it would bring me, but a simple ability was not what greeted me.

That was certainly strange, I had never seen a message like this before even quest messages that only happened in serious situations weren't like this. Though I had only been a part of one quest in my entire life before so I didn't have much to compare. Reading through it I felt myself being drawn in by the three lores stated in the message, they made sense but something seemed missing, it seemed unfinished.

My mind led back to two simple words in the message. First Three. If there was more to this then maybe I could be the one to find it out, if I could find this out id have a place that I would fit. It wouldn't matter if I had what was considered the most useless affinity of the base elements I could still do something with my life. As this thought filled my head I felt a d.e.s.i.r.e to move eastward, I quickly turned and began moving a smile on my bruised and beaten face.

I looked up at the man who had beat and tortured me all my life, big and muscled but useless. A bottle in one hand and a rusted blade in the other a memory of his so-called greatness. He looked at curled up puking on the floor, not with caring, or disgusted eyes they weren't even condescending rather it was eyes that did not put me in their sight. I was a being that was of no importance to him the only consequence if I died is that he would have to work himself to get his liquor. As I layed there on his floor something happened, a message appeared.

Reading it brought an epiphany to me, my father was stagnant, my father choose to relive his glory days on the battlefield in his dreams, he did not have a spark of life rather he stank of decay and liquor. He did not learn he only took, he took the money I earned, he took my mother from me, he took my childhood. My father was an abomination, and I would fix that.

---

I looked down at my father's rusted blade that now sat in my own palm. I had done it, I had freed myself all thanks to him, it was by his grace that I discovered my father's transgressions. It was he who would grant me the name that my father had never given me, all I had to do was find him, and so I moved.
