Targaryen Who Turned Dragon

Chapter 11 - Wasteland Of Death

I spent a whole day exploring the forest eventually, I found where it ended. It was quite surprising. After the green, living, beautiful forest ended... there was only sand and profound beasts (there were some bushes here and there, but overall it looked closer to a desert). There was a sign but it was covered with dust and sand. I wiped my hand across the sign to see what was written.

"Beyond lays the Wasteland of Death... where thousands of cultivators die every year. Deadly profound beasts lay in every corner, enter at your own risk. You have been warned."

A fitting name. From one deadly place to another, I'm used to it. If I continue walking straight I should reach some sort of town since so many cultivators die here... there must be some people who profit from this "attraction" (such as innkeepers and doctors).

Alright, it's settled then.

~Around thirty minutes later~

I was peacefully walking until half a dozen arrows fell on the floor, near my foot. I looked around and saw bandits advance out of some bushes and trees. Damn it... an ambush... wait, this could be a blessing in disguise! These bandits most likely steal from others and sell... sell their goods somewhere, most likely a town or village! I never expected a bandit ambush to actually help me.

"What are you smiling for!? You know the drill! Drop all your things or else..."

Uhm... does it look like I have things to drop? All I have is my trousers.

"I... don't have anything of value to give..."

I put on an impression of being scared of the bandits, it worked splendidly. One of them walked up to me and checked my pockets.

"He ain't lying, boss. All empty."

The bandit leader looked a bit angry.

"Nothing? You tell me that we waited for hours on end for... nothing? Chain him up! We will sell the pretty boy to the auction house."

Three bandits came over and put some chains on my hands, I didn't resist. I tugged the chain and smiled. I was confident in my ability to break these weak chains if things went south. No man can truly chain a Dragon!

Then I followed the bandits for a solid hour until we reached their hideout. It was a large cave on the surface but inside it was truly an underground mine. The entrance was sealed by a large rock covered with sand, which the Boss removed and put back in when we all entered. I was dragged down to the lower part of the hideout. Every few meters there was a torch for light and heat. I looked around in amazement, these bandits are well organised and they have a good hideout. I wouldn't be surprised if this mine is housing fifty bandits or more.

Once we got to the lower part, the wealth of the bandits seemed apparent. They had mountains of gold, silver, steel and many other kinds of metals. On the very end of the underground mine was a room with seven prisoners chained up (like me). The bandit that was dragging me the whole time pushed me into the room.

"Have fun in your temporary home..."

He laughed as the door was closed and tightly locked. I sat down on the damp floor and looked around, focusing on the other prisoners. They all looked depressed apart from one. That one person had an icy, cool expression as if everything is going according to his plan. Once the bandits walked off, he spoke.

"Who wants to be saved?"

All of the prisoners nodded, I did the same. He smiled.

"Good, it's your lucky day. Follow."

He snapped his fingers and all of our chains broke. How did he do that? I'll have to ask him later. He waved his hands and the locked door swung open. Some bandits came to see what happened, but they didn't get to see anything, their throats were sliced by clear, sharp wind. My jaw dropped... how is he doing that?! In just a minute, the entire mine was filled with bandit corpses. The saviour then held out his hand and all of the gold entered his... ring? He forgot about one person... the leader. I didn't see his body anywhere... and then an arrow whistled passed and hit the young man right in the back. He wasn't expecting an arrow and so, his wind wasn't there to blow away the arrow. His c.h.e.s.t was bleeding... badly. There's no way he would be able to beat the bandit leader alone.

"Run... RUN NOW, YOU FOOLS!"

The other prisoners scuttled out of the mine as soon as possible. I stood still. If I save him, maybe he could point me in the right direction.

"Why...?"

He looked at me, bewildered.

"You are a virtuous man, you shouldn't die here... to a man like him."

The bandit leader laughed.

"So... you wish to join him, boy? As you wish! You both will pay for killing all of my men... I will make sure of it!"

He charged at me... I looked at him with disdain. There shall be no mercy for cowards like him. I activate my Sharingan and use perfect counter. He was going to punch me in the face but I stepped to the side and pushed him, hard. His head smashed into a wall and got stuck. He can't do anything... he might as well be a doll. I break his arms, his legs and his neck. Then I finish him off by driving my hand through his c.h.e.s.t. I looked at the hero and his bad state... what do I do? Then he spoke.

"You... are strong... benefactor... search through my bag for a... bottle with blue liquid... then give it to me... please."

I do as he says. In a few seconds, I find the bottle he was talking about and give it to him. He drinks it quickly and shuts his eyes. This man really just went to sleep without saying another word... whatever. I carry him to the upper part of the mine, leave him and come back with some food. I start a fire and cook the meat. By the time he woke up, it was very dark. Then I noticed his wound, it was already closed up! I give him his portion of the meat.

"Thank you... what's your name?"

"Aerion... Aerion Targaryen."

He laughed out loud.

"What kind of silly name is that? If that's truly your name, you need to change it."

"Tsk, silly? Then what's your name?"

"Tai Quin."

I tried to stop myself from laughing back.

"Tai Quin... you wouldn't last a day in Wes-..."

I stopped myself from saying Westeros. He wouldn't know anything about it anyway, and I have to fit into this new world.

"Wouldn't last a day where...?"

"Nevermind."

He finished off his meat.

"Thank you for the food... see you in the morning."

Then he went back to sleep, I decided to sleep as well.

~Morning, next day

He woke up before I did, hell he even prepared breakfast! I thanked him for the food and ate up.

"So... it seems that my mission is complete."

"Mission... what mission?"

I looked at me, uncertain, probably thinking whether to talk about it or keep it a secret.

"I'll tell you; my mission was to get rid off the Tiger, his bandits and free all of his prisoners. The Tiger is the nickname given to the bandit leader... the man you killed. I thought it was going to be an easy contract until the arrow struck me in the back. If you weren't there, I would have died and failed my mission. I have to reward you... somehow."

"What are you going to do, after you recover?"

"I would return to the Noble Rogue Sect and report to an elder."

"I don't have anywhere to go... I don't even know this area very well...so, can I come with you?"

He laughed.

"Of course you can. You saved my bloody life! That way, once I return to the sect, I can reward you."

~

Then we spent a week travelling to this so-called 'Noble Rogue Sect'. I remember Izanami briefly talking about what sects are... could this world be her home... where she comes from? Eventually, we reached the city that housed the Sect. While we were travelling the wasteland, Tai Quin informed me about the Sect. He talked about how disciplined, organised and amazing the place was. I was very interested... perhaps I could join this Sect. I would finally have a home again.

The city that housed the Noble Rogue Sect was called Oldtown (no, not that Oldtown), as it was four centuries old. Even though it was called Oldtown, it didn't look very old to me. All of the buildings in the city looked clean and refurbished. Above the town, on a hill, stood a mighty fortress. I could see a few flags waving, on top of the walls, which all had a special insignia on them. We walked up to the gates of the castle.

"Who goes there?"

Tai Quin took a deep breath and spoke.
