Targaryen Who Turned Dragon

Chapter 14 - Rescue

"Alright, here's the briefing. This is something very similar to a mission. In this case, it's a rescue. Some old geezer wants his granddaughter rescued from a sect. According to him, the sect took his granddaughter for no reason other than p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e. It does not seem like an unlikely case, as the sect in question is known for performing devilish deeds."

For the first time, I questioned the Noble Rogue Sect. If they're so noble, there shouldn't be a sect performing "devilish deeds" next door!

"Why hasn't the Noble Rogue Sect gotten rid of them?"

"Why would they need to do that?"

"I don't know... maybe because they're kidnapping people?! What's the point of saving her anyway if they can just take her back?!"

The fury on Shun Zhi's face became clear as day... I think I went too far.

"Tsk, tsk. You are still young. Who would risk waging war on another sect over a few villagers?! NO ONE. YOU WANT THEM DEAD? GO KILL THEM YOURSELF! WOULD YOU? WOULD YOU DO THAT FOR MERE VILLAGERS, JUN LONG?"

A sudden rage filled me from head to toe. **** was a very touchy subject for me, as my mother... no... I would rather not think about it.

"OF COURSE... I... I would!"

"No... you wouldn't. Their leader is a powerful cultivator of the sky profound realm. Three whole greater realms ABOVE you. Don't be a fool and listen to me."

The words "sky profound realm" felt like a giant boulder was dropped on my head. I started to think straight again...

"We're going to rescue this granddaughter and after that, we'll go back to training. The sect wouldn't dare to wage a war on our sect for taking back the girl... unless..."

"Unless what?"

"She has something very valuable... but that's unlikely. First, we'll camp near the sect. After that, when it gets dark, you all will be infiltrating the sect and looking for the girl. Once you find her, take her and leave immediately. Understood?"

All of the disciples nodded.

~Night

"I won't be assisting in any part of this mission unless you all mess up and get caught. Then... I'll have to come in and rescue the girl AND you. I would rather not get my hands dirty, so be sure to avoid that scenario. Well, time to go."

And after that, Shun Zhi disappeared into a puff of smoke. The disciples came closer to each other, to communicate and formulate some sort of plan. Liu Lei broke the silence.

"So... who will be the leader?"

I looked around and realised there weren't many candidates for that position. Liu Lei was too timid, Cheng Gang doesn't know anything about leadership, the other two girls aren't strong enough (not serious as well). That only left me and Tai Xia. To be honest, I want to be the leader of the operation. I have more experience then all of them combined and I've led entire armies to victory... why should I not be the leader? Then I had an idea, which was to divide the group in half. Then we wouldn't have a reason to argue.

"What if we have two leaders? One for the girls, and one for the boys. That way we would be more organised and multi-task." I continued "I'll be the leader of the boys and Xia, you'll be the leader of the girls."

Everyone nodded in agreement. Then the two groups walked closer to the sect. The sect consisted of many different buildings and houses, which made it look like a small town. It was going to be very hard to find the girl in this kind of place...

"What's the plan?"

~In a restaurant nearby

"Damn you, old man, making trainees infiltrate that sect.. even I couldn't think of such a gruelling task."

"Do you know why I did it?"

Tai Wentian's ice cold eyes met with Shun Zhi's, Shun Zhi shuddered. Not many people could make Shun Zhi uneasy, but those who can are truly extraordinary people... Tai Wentian was one of them.

"No, I do not understand this decision at all. It is very much unlike you to take risks like this. What do you hope to achieve? You're risking talented disciples and your daughter... for what? Some gold? I know you're better than that... why did you do it?"

Tai Wentian took a deep breath and ice cold words left his lips.

"I wanted to test Jun Long."

"Jun Long? He'll most likely die!"

"Not if he stealthily infiltrates the sect, silences the alarms, avoids anyone stronger than him and quickly leaves without anyone noticing. He's a bright boy, I'm sure he'll work it out. Besides, if all things go wrong we can swoop in and save them."

"What do you hope to gain from all of this?"

"An heir."

"So here's the plan, we go in by scaling the walls. Then we go looking around for the girl and try to avoid conflict. We want to minimise the amount of evidence and so, we must avoid killing guards. Killing should be a last resort. When we, or the other group, find the girl we will reunite and quickly escape the sect. Avoid powerful elders at all costs. Understood?"

"Yes, sir!"

Cheng Gang and Liu Lei spoke in coordination. The Infiltration had begun. Three boys scaled the wall and got over it. There was a guard who was looking in the wrong direction, he was knocked out by Aerion with ease. They scaled the watchtower and looked around for any signs of the girl. There were no signs which meant that they would just have to guess where she was... which was easier said than done. They looked around for minutes on end... with no results. But then a scream gave them hope. They stealthily sneaked around, exactly as Shun Zhi taught them, and eventually reached the house from which the noise came from. They silently opened the door.

"What... are you- gah!"

A hand went straight through the young disciple's c.h.e.s.t before he could even ask a single question.

Aerion's crimson red Sharingan eyes glowed with killing intent. The disciple who had been penetrated by Aerion's left hand lay on the floor, lifeless, with blood pouring out of his c.h.e.s.t. The crimson eyes looked around the room for more enemies, but there was none. There was only the crying girl. She called out, with a spark of hope in her beautiful blue eyes.

"Have you come... to rescue me?"

"Yes, you'll be safe now."

Aerion softly spoke as he wrapped a gag around her mouth (to keep her quiet). Then an alarm went off.

~

"Damn, an alarm went off! But how!? We didn't do anything wrong... it was all by the book. Could it have been... the other group who messed up!?"

Liu Lei nodded.

"It is the most likely outcome."

"What do we do? Run away with the girl or risk it all and help the other group?"

Cheng Gang questioned, then they looked at me for guidance. It was a very difficult decision to make... but I had to do it. The words sky profound echoed in my mind... we must escape while we still can.

"We're running away."

We scaled up the walls, I was carrying the girl on my back since I was the strongest. When we reached the top the walls were clear of any guards. Then we looked back and saw dozens of disciples chasing Tai Xia's squad. In mere seconds, the entire wall was covered by members of the evil sect. I spoke out in frustration.

"We've been trapped... damn it!"

The disciples attacked us without any hesitation, with bloodthirst in their eyes. The only way out was with force!

Five of the disciples attacked at once, hoping to spill my blood. They failed terribly.

COUNTER KILL!

All five disciples dropped to the rough floor, their blood spilling out in all directions. The surrounding disciples moved back... they were hesitant to attack the killing machine that stood before them. This is our chance!

"EVERYONE JUMP, NOW!"

Everyone jumped down the wall, the evil disciples were a step slower. This slight separation of space was all that I needed.

FIRE BREATH!

A wall of flames left my mouth and covered our retreat. The disciples did not go around the wall... they started to extinguish it. I found it weird, shouldn't they be chasing us? We managed to run all the way to our camp, via a small route we knew, without any obstacles. When we reached it, the others let out a sigh of relief... I didn't.

"Why so serious, Long? We completed a mission!"

"Don't you think our escape was a bit too... easy?"

"No, well... maybe."

Then a bush shuddered. Everyone stood up and looked around. One of the girls in Tai Xia's group spoke out in dismay.

"What was that?"

My eyes instantly turned to the man crouching in the bushes, he saw me and we made eye contact. A smile crept up his withered, old face. He saw that there was no point in hiding any longer, so he stood up and left the bushes.

"Well... it looks like I've been discovered, eh? Sharp eyes, you have. It would be unfortunate to waste them on a man like Tai Wentian... why don't you join me? I would grant you money, pills, a wide selection of women and anything else you might need... what do you think of my proposal?"
