Targaryen Who Turned Dragon

Chapter 9 - Rebirth

Where am I? Heaven? Damn, it's too bright... I can't see anything.

"You are not here to see..."

Who...?

"I am the Transcendent One."

Ok...something like God?

"More or less. I have some questions for you, the answers will determine your future... are you ready?"

Yeah, I guess, it's not like I have anything else to do.

"I see, now for the first question. What is your favourite element between fire, wind, lightning, wind and earth?"

What kind of question is that?

"Answer."

I like them all... but if I had to pick a favourite, it would definitely be fire.

"Typical for a Targaryen... next question. Sword or spear?"

Really? This question will determine my future?

"Yes. It's very important."

Sword all day but I haven't used a spear yet so my opinion may change...

"Interesting. A harem or one girl?"

A harem... I guess?

"Your future is looking bright... one last question. Dragon, Lion or Phoenix?"

What's a phoenix?

"..."

Looks like the transcendent being won't help me... Lion... eh, and I don't know what is a phoenix. That leaves only one. I choose the Dragon.

"I have decided to let you live... along with your companions. The questions were just for some entertainment... I was going to let you live anyway."

Wait so yo-

"Adios... have fun!"

~

Thump!

I dropped on the ground. The fall, surprisingly, did not cause any harm... apart from a small headache. It took me a solid minute to take in my surroundings.

Thick grass, mountain-like trees, the blazing hot sun and everything else. So many trees... this must be a forest. Where am I? I must find out.

My clothes are still the same as before and my great sword is nearby. Everything looked fine apart from the animal staring at me. It was an angry wolf with silver fur. After using 'observe' I could tell that it was no ordinary wolf. My first instinct was to run away as fast as possible, which I followed.

I ran... as fast as I could but the wolf was keeping up with ease. Shit... I'm so dead. Just when the wolf was going to attack, I turned around and blocked the attack with my great sword. Crack... my sword shattered and all of its pieces dropped to the floor.

"What the..."

Did the wolf just break my sword with its teeth? Where the f.u.c.k am I? Is this how I die, after being brought back?

Then the wolf jumped at me, ready to end me. Slash! The wolf dropped to the ground, lifeless and split in two. Before the dead wolf stood a young man with a giant sword.

"Be careful next time."

He smiled and moved on.

"W...wait!"

I ran straight after him. There's no way I will survive another day in this forest by myself without protection from those wolfs. Eventually, he stops and turns around.... the air begins to thicken.

"Why are you following me?"

"The thing is... I woke up here - and I don't know where I am... I can't even protect myself..."

It took him a moment to answer.

"No... scram!"

Alright... I'll go. I didn't need his help anyway.

Then I spent a whole hour sneaking around in the forest, hoping to avoid conflict with the beasts and find some food. I eventually found some blueberries on a tree, which I happily ate. I sat down on the tree for some rest. The sun was boiling hot but the tree was big enough to shade me away from it. I felt like taking a nap but something was keeping me awake... no, drawing me in. I decided to follow that feeling. I stood up and walked as if I knew exactly where to go.

After a few long minutes, I reach my destination. One problem, there were two dragons in the way. It looked like they were sleeping... good. At that moment I grew world-sized guts... I stepped over the dragons to get to the entrance. I moved closer to the gate. Upon my touch, the doors open. I instinctively walked inside. The gate slowly closed and then there was silence...

Then a powerful voice filled the void.

"At last... another warrior has entered my realm."

Aw shit, here we go again.

I tried to find the owner of the voice and succeeded. My eyes adjusted to the darkness and I saw the celestial being. It looked like a dragon without wings but the most disturbing thing was that the dragon was huge. So huge that I got a headache trying to comprehend it.

"Oh... you can see me through the darkness? Those eyes... interesting. And you already have some Dragon Blood inside of you. Why have you come here?"

"I... I was... something was drawing me in."

"Oh, do you happen to know what this place is?"

"No... not really."

"It's a trial ground... success will result in Dragon Blood and failure will mean death."

"Death... I would rather not..."

"Hah...! You have no choice in this matter, Dragon boy. Outside lay two sky profound Dragons that could kill you by sneezing... I can move you to safety... if you pass my trials. Even if you manage to escape the dragons, you will still have a whole forest of beasts to elude. Your chances of survival are minuscule, to say the least.

This dragon has great reasoning. Although I do not know what sky profound means, I do know that the beasts in this forest are far stronger than me. Naturally, the dragons should be far more powerful than some wolves... I don't like my chances.

I take a deep breath.

"I'll do the trial."

"Smart boy... though you do not know what you have gotten yourself into."

The Dragon disappeared and flames erupted. The trial had begun.

The flames did not affect me at all, probably due to my "Dragon Blood". From the ground rose two human-like things that looked like they were made from stone. They started to move towards me... it became clear to me that they were going to attack. I attacked first, with no hesitation. My hand went straight through the stone humanoid, making a giant hole and causing it to fall. Then I

This is too easy.

Then four stone humans appeared. They all had swords now... maybe warriors is a more suitable name. I defeated all four with ease, and it only took me a minute. Then eight stone warriors rose from the ground.

This Dragon is not playing around... just how many more times will they multiply?

I grabbed a sword off the ground, which used to belong to one of the warriors, and proceeded to kill the stone warriors. I sliced them up with such skill that they couldn't even touch me. Then sixteen stone warriors rose. Can't I get a damn break?

It took me a far longer time to defeat sixteen stone warriors. I was getting worn out and making mistakes. By the end of the wave, I had a few cuts on my body and I was breathing heavily. The trial grounds didn't give a damn about my state... thirty-two stone warriors rose. Some of them now had spears... what's next, bows?

The closest stone warrior slashed at me, I sidestepped and pierced his c.h.e.s.t with my sword. My counterattack was so smooth... but I didn't have the time to praise myself. Five stone warriors encircled me. I threw my sword at one of them before they could strike. The stone warrior dropped to the floor and their little circle formation was broken. I ran over to grab my sword and then I rolled to dodge their attacks. I struggled to get up.

At this point, I might not even get past this wave...

"Don't think... just move."

Izanami's voice echoed in my head. Don't think... just move. Wise words, unfortunately... I can't just "stop" thinking.

"That's why you lose every time we spar."

I laugh... damn, I miss Izanami. Just move... I activate my Sharingan and turn around. Stone warriors, I feel sorry for you all.

"Flow like water... do not make any unnecessary movements."

The closest stone warrior attacked and a few breathes later he fell to the floor. The wave has truly begun. I stopped avoiding attacks that weren't lethal instead, I tanked the weak hits and moved in for the kill. My scale regeneration dealt with all of the damage I was receiving and my stamina was holding up fine. I was getting used to killing large numbers of stone warriors. In absolutely no time, all thirty-two stone warriors were on the floor... lifeless.

Sixty-four? Bring it on!

I began fighting without thinking... the only thing on my mind was killing the stone warriors. It didn't matter if I was tired or bleeding, as long as I could move another stone warrior would fall. Eventually, all sixty-four warriors were dead. Twice as many appeared from the ground. One hundred and twenty-eight to be exact.

I leaned on my sword to rest for a bit (the stone warriors are quite slow) but then I heard an arrow whistle past. No way... they have bows now! Shit... this Dragon really wants me to fail.

Another arrow was launched at me. I blocked the projectile and charged in for the kill. It didn't have a melee weapon nor the time to shoot another arrow, the result was its downfall. The stone archer was split in half by my sword. Five stone warriors attacked at once.

Perfect counter.

All five of them split in half. It's just too easy. Then I proceeded to exterminate the stone warrior population. It took me a good half-hour since I was conserving my energy for the upcoming wave. By the end of the seventh wave I had dragon scales all over my body, but they were all caused by minor cuts so it was fine.

...

The trial ground shook as if there was an earthquake.

The stone warriors are taking their damn time appearing... maybe the previous wave was the last. Then the trial ground shook again.

Then stone warriors appeared in large, far larger than before, numbers. There's no way in the seven hells that there are only two hundred and fifty stone warriors here... it's closer to five hundred! I almost dropped my sword from shock. Not only did the stone warriors come in at larger numbers, but some also had a weird weapon I have never seen before (meteor hammer). A drop of sweat fell from my forehead.

"How many have passed this accursed trial?"

I called out to the Dragon.

"Zero."

Zero!? I wonder why. Oh, is it because you make people fight half a thousand stone warriors? Whatever. I'm going to pass this stupid trial no matter what, I was not resurrected by God just to die to some stone warriors. Besides, I still have to find my way home and I can't do that if I die here.

Three hours later I finished off the last stone warrior. I dropped my sword and fell to the ground from exhaustion. My shirt was filled to the brim with sweat so I took it off. My whole body was aching.

"Nice body you got there, but you still have one more wave. It would be a shame if you made it to this point just to die."

The Dragon reminded me. A surge of anger filled me. The things that this Dragon put me through...

"F.u.c.k off, you damn lizard."

"Save that energy for the upcoming wave... you'll need it."

A thousand stone warriors appeared from the ground. The final wave had begun. I struggled to stand up. There's no way I can possibly kill all of the stone warriors with just my sword... I need something, something that can kill multiple stone warriors at once. Counter kill would drain too much stamina and it can only kill six at a time. A voice entered my head... it sounded like a mix between my Dragon and the Fire Dragon God.

"Breathe... like a Dragon."

Breathe like a Dragon... what? You know what, I don't have anything else so I might as well. I stood up. I took a deep breathe... and released. All of my frustration and anger seemed to have left my body... and ignited into flames. Scarlet red flames surrounded and filled the entire trial ground. Every stone warrior disintegrated into ash in mere seconds.

Breathing fire... I never thought that was possible. A smile surfaced on my face. A rush of adrenalin filled my body from head to toe. I can... breathe FIRE!

Blood of the Dragon... heh, I AM A DRAGON!
