Qu Xing Xu almost drew back his breath. He blinked his eyes once then, twice. When it wasn't enough to cover up his surprise, he did it a few more times.

Instead of trying to look for an excuse to save his head from rolling on the ground and appease her anger, Qu Xing Xu chose this moment to laugh heartily.

And yet, this insufferable man just laughed her anger off.

"What's so funny?" Lin Xiaofei said with gritted teeth.

"Nothing." Qu Xing Xu managed to say while he continued to laugh while gaining her glares of daggers.

Lin Xiaofei took a breath in. Calming her nerves and anger was difficult to do when she was clearly played by Qu Xing Xu.

She abruptly stood up and said, "Since you're so happy, It's better if I return to my room and wait for you to bleed out here."

She intended to walk away but it didn't even taker her to walk five steps away when a rough and familiar hand clasped around her wrist and pulled her to turn around.

Forced to face him, Lin Xiaofei lashed out and raised her hand to slap him. She was seething with anger. Her emotions were now unrestrained unlike how she tried to keep it bottled in. Perhaps, it has something to do with meeting Yu Fangzhu and killing someone using her own hands.

And yet, the contact that both of them were expecting didn't happen.

Lin Xiaofei's hand was in mid-air and stayed there for a bit longer. Qu Xing Xu didn't even dare to block it as he intended to face it and accept it wholeheartedly as if a slap was enough for her to ease her anger at him. However, he doubted that would be the end of it.

"You're smart. I think you already guessed the reason why." Qu Xing Xu replied vaguely. However, Lin Xiaofei knew what he meant but refused to acknowledge it.

"I don't believe it." She shook her head a few seconds later. She refused to believe that Qu Xing Xu has fallen for her.

It was too impossible. But then again, his actions were enough evidence to prove that nothing was impossible. Not when it comes to him anyway.

Besides, she already had her suspicions ever since he pulled her to that unattended part of the garden in the Palace. However, that wasn't enough to prove anything at all. In the end, she decided to forget that silly thought and forced it to hide underneath her locked Pandora box.

"Believe what you wish to believe." Intently staring at her face before falling to her lips, he continued, "I, for one, won't stop and continue this farce until it becomes real."

When his gaze stayed a bit too long on her lips, Qu Xing Xu reluctantly looked away and turned. He sat back down to the bed and pat the part where she was seated earlier. "Come, now. Let's continue where we left off." He raised the wet cloth to her, "You don't want your future husband's wound to fester."

Lin Xiaofei's attention was dragged back to him and she openly glared at him. Hearing him call her his wife didn't make her feel better instead, it made her feel confused and… lost. A small sacrifice on her part won't hurt if it means she could take down her enemies.
