Lin Xiaofei eased her nerves once the warm water in the wooden bathtub touched her body. The good thing about having a servant was having these kinds of services ready at any moment she asked them to. 

Yet, she didn't want to abuse her power to people who were lower than her in terms of their status because she was once someone lower than a servant. 

The water in the bathtub was clear and flowers floated above while soothing perfumes from a foreign country were poured in to give it a beautiful scent. 

Scrubbing the dirt from her body, Lin Xiaofei shivered at the thought of having Qu Xing Xu join her in the bathtub. He clearly showed a tremendous interest in joining her in it whilst she was against it. And if it wasn't because she blocked the door to the bathing chamber before he got in, the thought of having him in the same bathing chamber worried her.

A knock interrupted her and Lin Xiaofei instinctively reached for a clean towel and wrapped herself with it, soaking it with water. Usually, when someone knocks on the door, it was either they speak behind the door for what was their purpose or when her maids announced that they got whatever item she ordered them to get.

However, she hadn't got the chance to do the latter since she's been with Qu Xing Xu. On the other hand, the shadow before the door didn't look like they came for a good reason.

Was it Qu Xing Xu? Lin Xiaofei frowned at the thought. That man would definitely say something after he knocks. Though he had no shame and had the desire to touch her, he wouldn't sneak up on her and not announce his presence when she's bathing.

A dangerous glint flashed in her eyes as she let herself slowly and silently submerged in the water. Sucking a mouthful of air to keep her from drowning. Once the back of her head touched the wooden surface below, LIn Xiaofei kept her eyes open. She couldn't clearly hear the faint sounds outside and the fact that she was n.a.k.e.d in the tub didn't make things better for her.

Was she just being too cautious? This bathing chamber was right next to Qu XIng Xu's room but since that night's failed assassination, Lin Xiaofei thought that it was better for her to be in guard as no one knows what kind of evil lurks in the shadows.

It seems that Qu Xing Xu had too many enemies that they wanted to kill her to get to him.

"Young Miss?" a female voice sounded somewhere but because Lin XIaofei was underwater, her voice was slightly distorted.

"Young Miss, I came to give you your clothes." The voice said and got nearer. Lin Xiaofei instantly knew that it didn't belong to her personal maids.

Lin Xiaofei felt her lungs hurting from the lack of air but she kept herself from emerging from the water. With the failed assassination, Lin Xiaofei already expected more people wanting her dead coming but not so soon. It hadn't been a day since the last attempt but they're now attempting to kill her once again.

She didn't try to get up and check what was happening lest that more assassins came to help the first one. However, the pain coming from her head because of the lack of oxygen was making her light-headed.

Balling her hands into fists, Lin Xiaofei swore to make Qu Xing Xu pay for this. It didn't matter if he wasn't the one who ordered them but nevertheless, he was still the cause of it.

Just how many people did he offend anyway? She understood that he was a man of power and influence but how can he let his enemy easily invade his own home? Was it deliberate or accidental?

Damn it! She couldn't do it anymore. It didn't matter if she died from a knife stabbing her heart. Qu Xing Xu can take care of the consequences but she refuses to die from drowning herself when she was given the chance to live a second time.

Pushing herself to emerge from the water, Lin Xiaofei held onto the edges of the bathtub and desperately gasped for air. The suddenness brought different colors of light spinning in her eyes.

Lin Xiaofei immediately saw an unfamiliar woman with a dagger in her hand. But that didn't surprise her. What surprised her was that Qu XIng Xu was also present in the chamber and had his hand wrapped around the woman's throat.

Qu Xing Xu and Lin Xiaofei looked at each other's eyes. The brief moment their eyes got into contact, she glared at him, promising violence once everythings done.

"Ah, thank goodness and you're alive." Qu Xing Xu said with relief passing through his eyes. "And here I thought you were too embarrassed to call for help and chose to drown yourself."

"I'm glad you're pleased to see me suffering." Lin Xiaofei venomously said.

Qu Xing Xu shamelessly looked like he was offended with her words and said in defense, "I wasn't pleased at all! Although, the thought of resuscitating you passed through my mind."

So, he was just aiming to get his lips on hers. Lin Xiaofei wished she could strangle someone. Someone crazy enough to let his bride drown.

Just as she was about to say something, Qu Xing Xu raised a hand to stop her. He then returned his attention to the woman who was flailing with her dagger, hoping that Qu Xing Xu would let go of her.

Unfortunately, the woman wasn't successful as Qu Xing Xu snapped her neck. The sound of her bones cracking and the body crumpling on the ground with a loud 'thud' chilled Lin Xiaofei.

She watched Qu Xing Xu walk towards the bathtub. Towards her.

A cruel smile was playing on his lips as he asked her, "Why didn't you scream for help? You could have died if I hadn't returned to check upon you."

"It didn't cross my mind." Lin Xiaofei said the truth. All her life, she did things by herself and didn't scream for others to come help her when she already knew the outcome. The first time she did that, that person laughed at her and watched in glee while she suffered. Hence, she grew used not to call anyone for help.

Qu Xing Xu ignored the sudden changes in her eyes and brought his face close to hers. "Then, from now on. Please, do call for me. Scream my name if you have to." He said with his eyes telling her that he won't let her refuse.

So she replied with a nod and said."I will." 

"Alright. Now let's get you changed so we can go to bed." Qu Xing Xu stood up proud of himself and walked to the door.
