The Birth of a Villainess

346 Swimming in a Pool of Vinegar

Upon mentioning this, the room fell into deep silence. No one knew who started it, but every pair of eyes went directly to stop on the man seated at the head of the table.

Qu Xing Xu raised his eyebrows and narrowed his eyes. His cold voice sounded into their ears, "There's nothing to discuss. The young emperor met my wife when he took a visit in the Zheng empire a few years ago.

Qu Xing Xu helped Lin Xiaofei cover up her story. If people were to know that she had met the young emperor of the Rei Empire in her first life, they would surely not believe it. So, there was no need to elaborate on how they had met in the past.

"Don't be idlers. There's even more important matters to discuss than this." Qu Xing Xu steered the topic away and ignored the shocked faces in front of him.

Did...did he really just brush it off?

Where was the scene where a jealous husband challenges the new love rival for his wife's love and affection?

Even though everyone was curious to know why hadn't Qu Xing Xu reacted the same way they expected them to, they still obeyed him and went through the battle plans.

However, just when they were about to finish discussing on how to quicken the duration of war so they could go home already, a messenger bird arrived.

Just days after the letter bearer had gone to Henzhou City, the emperor had a change of heart.

In this new letter from Emperor Yun, he had mentioned that there would be no supply or reinforcement being sent over. It was because the Zheng and the Chu empire had called for a truce. The Chu empire will send their crown prince to give tribute to Emperor Yun on his birthday and will further discuss on how they will dissolve the war without spilling more blood.

It was a good news for most people. Especially, the normal citizen of the empire. They were the victims of war and would always want to avoid it if they could. However, for those who were able to guess what really happened and what the emperor had in his mind, they were restless, frustrated, and even angered by Emperor Yun's sudden decision for a truce.

This was the perfect chance to clear the dirty reputation that had plagued the Zheng empire ever since he sat on the throne for god's sake!

Nevertheless, even if these scholars, court officials, and military men wanted to complain, they could only bleed over internally and couldn't say what they really wanted to say in front of the shameless Emperor.

When the people of Henzhou City heard this, they all rejoiced. They were at the forefront of the battle between two empires. They had been worried about being pulled into this mess and get killed without even being able to defend themselves. But it seems that they could finally let go of their worries as the emperor finally called for a truce.

On the other end, the Chu Empire's army was also feeling relieved. They had been camping out of the city for more than a month and the lives that had been lost were far greater than those from Qu Xing Xu's soldiers.

"Keke... I never thought that the emperor in your empire is this muddle headed," said Erkin as he leaned his back against the frame of the window. He turned his head to look at the woman reading a book just a few meters away from him and said, "Well, I guess you also didn't expect this to happen. What are you going to do now, Master?"

Lin Xiaofei suddenly said after being silent for a bit: "The person who wanted a truce isn't Emperor Yun."

"What do you mean?" Erkin asked.

Lin Xiaofei frowned and looked down. At the same time, the door to the room opened and Qu Xing Xu, who took off his armor and wore a black brocaded robe entered the room. He stared at Erkin sitting at the bottom frame of the window with disapproval before walking straight to where his wife was sitting.

"What are you two talking about?" Qu Xing Xu asked as soon as he got closer to her.

Lin Xiaofei raised her head and saw him pull a chair and sat next to her smoothly.

"I was talking about how this is the Emperor Yun's method. He isn't the kind of man who would lower his pride just because his birthday is nearing."

The crease on Qu Xing Xu's forehead got deeper as he asked her in turn, "I didn't know that you could tell your thoughts to anyone."

Lin Xiaofei gave a slight start at his words.

"When we met, I had to expend a lot of effort to figure out what you're thinking and only managed to know them when we got married. And yet, he can easily hear whatever comes to your mind." Qu Xing Xu grabbed the teacup across from him and tasted it. He recoiled slightly at the bitter taste and put it down with a soft thud.

Lin Xiaofei followed his actions silently and the words that was at the top of her tongue didn't managed to come out. That was her cup... Well, they're married there was nothing that they couldn't share.

But more importantly...

"Are you swimming in a pool of vinegar?"

Lin Xiaofei only asked in wonder, but it was enough to make someone choke on their saliva.

"Puchi!"

Qu Xing Xu glared at Erkin, who had just made that sound. The young emperor looked away guiltily and rubbed his nose before looking outside as though nothing happened.

Out of sight, out of mind. Erkin chanted in his mind. He hoped that he could lessen his presence in the room so that a certain jealous husband would stop sending him a glare filled with murderous intent.

Still feeling that the young emperor was not pleasing to his eyes, Qu Xing Xu flicked his finger.

Then, a gasp and a loud thud sounded soon after.

Erkin, who wanted to look outside silently fell off the window of the second floor and landed on the ground below.

"Now, the view outside is clean," said Qu Xing Xu as he looked out from the window.

Soon, a giggle sounded from beside him.
