The Black Market

Chapter 96 - Heavy Burden

Inside the headquarters of the new Earth Alliance.

Surrounding a round table were more than a dozen men clad in military clothing. On the shoulder part of their clothes was a depiction of a diamond-shaped shield with two swords placed in perpendicular to each other, which formed an X shape behind the shield. It was the logo of the Earth Alliance that everyone came up with.

After a year from the establishment of the Alliance, their numbers grew exponentially. But the leader that everyone chose was still the legendary Wolf King.

Many tried to challenge his position as the Alliance Head and the Grand Commander of the Alliance. But all who challenged him were met with a swift defeat. After those events, no one else dared to challenge his rule. Aside from his strength, every member of the Alliance also knew that he had more than a thousand elite subordinates under his command who he can order the death of anyone who will rebel against him. And now, no one was capable of going against Wolf King or to be exact, everyone was afraid of fighting him.

"Wolf King, my men spotted another group of unknown individuals. We were not sure if they were demi-humans though, so we did not dig much detail from them." Nangong Munji, the patriarch of the Nangong Family spoke in a serious tone of voice. He was gazing at the masked man seated on the leader's seat with solemn respect. During the whole year, he had seen the capabilities of the man. His strength was unfathomable, and his leadership abilities were unquestionable. He was truly the only one he knew that deserves the full support of their Nangong Family.

Wolf King glanced at Nangong Munji briefly before he spoke in a calm voice.

"Patriarch Nangong, once you see them again, make sure to follow them discreetly. And if you think that they are much stronger than your people, then you can request the aid of my men. But then again, we should avoid confronting them now. The time is not yet ripe."

"I understand, Wolf King." Nangong Munji answered respectfully while saluting the man wearing a silver wolf mask.

He was also happy about being able to gather half of the elites of the previous Alliance. They might be far weaker than during his past life, but they will eventually become stronger after training within the Earth Alliance's new facilities. And that was also the reason why he called everyone.

"I know everyone must be curious as to why I called you guys here." Wolf King smiled slightly which allowed everyone to see his perfectly white set of teeth.

"I wanted to inform everyone that the Virtual Reality World that my men were working on is now finished. And all of you guys will be able to train your men, no... All of us will be able to train the soldiers of the Alliance. Every one of them must be ready to fight those demi-humans. We cannot afford to lose the battle or it will cost us the loss of our planet and we might even be enslaved by that alien force!

So by tomorrow morning, start the practice and don't waste time dawdling around." Wolf King continued speaking with a small increase of volume in his voice. Everyone knew Wolf King's hatred towards the demi-humans. And because of that, they also started to hate these invaders. Even without Wolf King's anger, they will still slowly gain hatred towards this alien force.

"Sir, yes sir!" Everyone inside the meeting room spoke in a snappy voice. Their faces painted with extreme solemness.

"Meeting adjourned! You may leave." Wolf King spoke while signaling everyone to leave the room.

Everyone saluted Wolf King before they left without any hints of disagreements. The position of Wolf King in their hearts was already solid and firm. Besides, no one had the guts to disobey him

After everyone left the room, Wolf King removed his mask. His long silver hair turned black, while his silver eyes turned onyx black. He rubbed his temples while sighing heavily. A beautiful figure suddenly came behind him to massage his back.

"What's wrong Cale? Everything is happening according to your plans. Is there something else bothering you?" Sima Ying asked in a sweet voice which was filled with concern.

"Everything might be happening according to my plans. But because of my intervention, changes on the future events are bound to happen. And the exact time that we have might be slowly diminishing as well following all the changes that we have made.

Twenty years? I don't think so. I'm guessing that we only have less than five years to prepare before another bloody battle against those demi-humans. And I'm not talking about a small skirmish, but a war that will involve the whole world." Cale spoke gravely, while his eyes burst with intense fury.

Sima Ying turned pale after hearing Cale's words. She now realized how heavy the burden that Cale was bearing alone. He knew that their world would face a life and death crisis, but he was still shouldering the responsibility of protecting their planet. How could one-man carry that kind of weight? Perhaps only Cale was capable of doing that, but she was still worried about him.

"Cale, take time to rest even if it's just one day. You deserve to rest as well. Even with all our preparations, many will still die and we cannot save everyone. But at least we will be able to preserve humankind."

Sima Ying hugged Cale from behind which made his expression to soften a bit. He smiled and held the dainty hands of Sima Ying tenderly.

"Thank you, my wife."
