The Burning Fiend

Chapter 94 - Catherine

After 3 months, Reynolds and Rosarie managed to create the first two bracelets with their corresponding arrays. One of them would shield the owner from divine sense probes while the other will barely release a Highgod aura.

They currently had only four Highgod divine sparks, so they could only create another three bracelets and Reynolds decided that his four wives would be the ones wearing them. Creating the bracelets that would allow to hide someone from divine sense probes was not a problem after managing to built the first pair, but completing this task would take them both another few months at least.

The group continued with their normal routines, but they were growing restless as they could see groups of Highgods who appeared frequently to sweep the forest apparently looking for them. Reynolds frowned while thinking about their current situation, he had hoped that his warning would have been enough to stop the Yura Clan from looking for further confrontations, but it seemed that there would be a battle sooner or later.

By now it was obvious to him that they were involved in something that he did not completely understand and decided to clear the situation as it had grown into a ridiculous stage and it might become worst as time passed. He walked towards Catherine that was meditating alone and made his presence known, she opened her eyes a moment later while keeping an unwilling attitude.

"Catherine, I think I have waited enough... the current situation is already placing my family in danger and I feel that our problems will only grow... I demand to know why. What is it that elves are so valuable to motivate a hunt like this?" Reynolds said while gesturing towards a group of Highgods flying in the distance, she begged with her eyes, but he shook his head firmly demanding an answer.

Catherine sighed and tried to put her ideas in order before answering. "Is not elves that are valuable, only talented female elves at the saint level. Did you think that I would have remained that long on the Yulan Continent if I had had the chance to leave? I was a prisoner..." There was some hate in her words, but she sighed again and forced herself to continue with her explanation after a brief pause.

"There are powerful divine beasts that become deities just by reaching maturity, but their descendants cannot. They would remain saints with almost no possibility to reach the Demigod realm with their own efforts, even if they were sired by a human divine avatar of their father. You had meet cases like this before... Dylin... Beirut". She grunted the last name with hate and disgust.

"The reason I was forced to remain in the Yulan Continent was because Beirut wanted a pureblood descendant, and I was the backup plan he would use to get it. I guess that the reason he did not go through it was because his wife still had hopes of finding a solution that would not require a third party involved... like myself". Reynolds had not expected this situation and his mind went blank for a while, but Catherine continued talking.

"The reason I was allowed my freedom was due to the unexpected birth of Bebe, who turned to be a pureblood God Eater Rat. Anyway... if these people are hunting me, it should mean that their leader is a divine beast of some sort, and he might have an innate ability that might be a threat to you". She seemed calmer now that she had explained her situation, but felt fear at being left on her own in this dangerous place.

Reynolds seemed to finally get out of his stupor and asked. "Does having a saint body have a special meaning for you? Why not fusing with a divine spark and get rid of this situation?" His voice had only curiosity, and she looked at him with a weird smile.

"I was not allowed! There are worse things that death and Beirut made sure to let me know what would happen to me if I were to do that... and after I found myself free again, the opportunity never came and asking for one was too shameful!" Her face was red while Reynolds looked at her as if she were stupid only to sigh in frustration and leave after throwing two divine sparks to her.

Catherine was left stupefied while holding two divine sparks on her hand as if not knowing what to do with them, only after a while she bowed her head and bounded the Demigod spark to start fusing with it while muttering. "I owe him too much... but he is a pervert and womanizer".

On a garden within a small courtyard a beautiful golden haired woman was sitting on the grass while pondering the laws. Sasha had made great progress within the last few centuries, he had gained insights to the law of "Healing" and the law of "Speed" and even managing to find points of fusion for both laws against the "Light Elemental Essence".

After fusing the two new laws with the one she had already mastered, her power might not rise much but her ability to escape and recover would be enough for her to move around with confidence. She planned to become a Fiend before taking her leave, according to what she understood it would be better to wait until she managed to fuse the three laws before she could start her exploration of the continent.

She opened her eyes and found that her parents were not around while Bebe was sleeping not far from her under the shade of a three, a light smile appeared on her lips with a hint of expectation. Bebe opened his eyes as he felt her gaze and smiled. "Sasha, I have not found any more recordings of your boyfriend... but don't worry, I heard news of him becoming a 7-star Fiend. I guess it will not be long before his newest recording orbs hit the market, but you need to work hard... that Reynolds already has 4 wives and too many admirers". He chuckled and closed his eyes again extremely satisfied while seeing that her face had turned completely red, but then he almost chocked on his own laughter when he heard her reply.

"What would you know... for the longest time I have always thought you must have a crush on Father, or why would you remain by his side all this time? You don't seem to even pay attention to other girls... except when you are looking for female elves... why are you always doing that by the way?" Her words were unforgiving and her smile was mischievous enough to remind him of another youth who loved to make fun of his Boss.

"S-Sasha I don't k-know what you are talking about... I was just curious as the only elf I have ever meet was Catherine, and she always used a mask... yes, I was just curious!". Bebe said hesitantly and by the end of his speech he seemed to be proud of his response causing Sasha to laugh out loud making him realize that he had made a mistake by saying the last sentence and that he forgot to denied his love interest on his Boss. He grunted and covered his face with his hat while pretending to sleep.

A few months later, Reynolds and the girls were all wearing a black bracelet that, as long as they provide it with divine power, would hide them from any divine sense probe. The other 4 bracelets, that Reynolds had named 'Fake Highgod', were on possession of his four wives but not activated. They finally were ready to continue with their travels and the most excited of them was Talia who sported a bright smile.

Before departing, Reynolds had been hesitating and wondering if he should go on his own to exterminate the Yura Clan leaving their family behind as a precaution. But after thinking for a long while, he decided that it would be too risky as they were in 'enemy' territory, it would be better to move away and even reach a city before starting a confrontation.

After making sure they had everything ready, he collected the metallic life form and deactivated the stealth array destroying quietly any sign of their stay. They started making their way slowly toward the end of the forest while maintaining their stealth bracelets activated and using the high density of vegetation to hide from unwanted eyes.

Catherine had already started fusing with a lightning divine spark, but it would take her close to 10 years to transform her saint body into a Demigod avatar.

A group of Highgods were still camping while keeping 'watch' on Reynolds and his family, but they had not realized yet that they had already being tricked and left behind along with the hunters that seemed unwilling to believe that their prey had already escaped. The blue haired Highgod was feeling restless, but he could not simply walk into their camp and knock, or he could... but he will die in the process.

Talia was floating next to Catherine and stole looks at her every few minutes, she knew that a conflict between her friend and her Father had happened recently and that it might being caused by their current situation. Talia felt confused and curious but did not dare to ask, she suddenly startled out of her thoughts as she found that Catherine was looking at her with a light frown and Talia hurried to smile before looking away with a blush on her face.
