Chapter 30: The Prey Dies Under the Hunter’s Poisonous Fangs

A few months later.

At the Medici Residence.

“Nn…”

A man and two women were sleeping peacefully. The chirping of sparrows and the bright morning sun gently brushed against their ears and skin, secretly announcing the arrival of morning. A gentle breeze ruffled the curtains, bringing a breath of fresh air into Haruto’s room.

Next to the canopy bed was a single side table. On it was a beautiful glass jar with red and blue roses showing off their beauty. And next to it were two wedding rings.

Perhaps the two roses would fade away if things continue as they were. However the two women lying in bed would retain their unfading beauty over the long years.

The sweet fragrance and pheromones emitted by Alice and Carol stimulated the nose of the sleeping Haruto and woke him up.

The two most beautiful women in the kingdom of Laodecia were sleeping peacefully in front of him, wearing nightclothes with their chests exposed. Apart from the two ferocious marshmallows, they were as cute as kittens.

Haruto stroked Alice and Carol’s cheeks before looking back at what happened that other day.

The nine bullets fired from the battleship Yamato hit Alan brilliantly, and he vanished without a trace.

There was not a single death on Laodecia’s side. There were quite a few injured, but they were saved thanks to Agnes’s healing magic. Although the buildings were damaged a lot, the Kingdom of Laodecia was able to regain peace again thanks to the administrative abilities of the King of Bern, combined with the cooperation of the people and nobles.

The ones that were there gave Haruto the title of “Messenger of the Divine Ship”. And there was a huge crater where the bombardment took place, and the royal family named the place “The Scar of the Holy War” and bought all the land there.

All of Alan’s family were arrested and stripped of their titles.

The injustice they had been doing had come to light.

It was also revealed that his family was the mastermind behind two incidents by a mysterious group of men who attacked the Medici family’s residence, all of whom were sentenced to the maximum punishment.

Haruto then married Alice, celebrated by all the powerful and commoners in the country, and they were married to this day.

Haruto was no longer an adventurer.

He was a respectable nobleman who can call himself the Duke of Leinster.

According to the laws of the Kingdom of Laodecia, there can only be two people who can claim the title of Duke. So Alice gave him the right to call himself the Duke of Leinster.

However, Agnes, Siesta and Alice were taking care of the difficult business, tax and legal matters related to the Medici family.

He still had a lot to learn.

Haruto left the room with a bitter smile on his face as he thought about this.

[Haruto’s POV]

“Good morning, Master.” x2

The quiet Lindsey and the childish Elyse greeted me in the morning.

“Good morning.”

Then Elyse, who looked bewitchingly at me, mentioned.

“Was yesterday intense? Hehehe.”

“!! I exercise my right to remain silent…”

“Elyse, don’t embarrass our master. We’re in a position where we have to follow Master.”

I made my way away from them and headed to the washbasin near the changing room.

“Ara, Haruto-kun.”

“Agnes-sama, you have returned.”

“Yeah. I was pretty busy with business yesterday… And, I wish you could call me mother.”

“It’s…”

“Fufu, that being said, what ended up happening yesterday in your audience with His Majesty King Bern?”

“It’s about the Secretary of Defense.”

“Yeah.”

I was made the top ranking Secretary of Defence by King Bern, when we fought the demonic Alan.

But I didn’t know much about the geography and administrative structure of this country. At the time, I had no choice but to take the case in order to defeat Alan and save the Medici family and the people of the Kingdom of Laodecia. But when I thought about it, it was too much for me as a newcomer to take on.

Besides, if I was going to be in charge of the Laodecia army as Secretary of Defense, I would have less time to protect Agnes-san, Alice, and Carol.

But Agnes-san wanted me to remain Secretary of Defense. Probably because her late husband was also Secretary of Defense.

That’s why I went to the royal palace where the restoration work was being carried out last night and approached him.

I told her the good news.

”His Majesty the King wants me to remain as the Secretary of Defense for as long as possible. Therefore, I’ve decided to leave the practical affairs to Sir Roland, the Captain of the Thousands, as before, and only in case of emergency, I’ve agreed to protect the Kingdom of Laodecia by assuming the command.”

“Ara! Does that mean that Haruto will always be the Secretary of Defense?”

“Yes. Though it’s an honorary position in name only…”

I scratched the back of my hair and replied, and Agnes-san in her light clothes made her tongue crawl like a snake on her stringy lips before saying.

“Haruto…”

“Ha, yes.”

“Good job.”

“N-no, I’m…”

“Come here.”

Northminster Abbey

After we finished breakfast, we got on the carriage and headed for Northminster Abbey where Sir Kelts, Agnes-san’s husband and Alice and Carol’s father, was buried. By the way, Siesta was the one who drove the carriage.

“… Father.”

“Papa…”

Alice and Carol laid flowers on a grave that they thought belonged to Sir Kelts. Looking at their expressions, I could understand how much Sir Kelts loved his daughters. The two were not shedding tears, but Alice and Carol were reminiscing about the old days and seemed to have an aura about them that I couldn’t look into.

“I’m sure that if my husband were still alive, he and Haruto-kun would have gotten along well…”

Agnes-san whispered in my ear in a s**y voice.

”That’s right. When I’m with my Haruto-onii-sama, I can smell the same scent as our father who loved us so much.”

“I know. I think that’s why we fell more in love with Haruto. I’ve never liked any other man who isn’t related to me by blood so much before…”

“Everyone…”

Those three, the beautiful mother and daughters, easily shattered the restraint I had and reached out to me.

We were born and raised in different environments and had different values. But my heart was full. That’s why…

I would tell the three of them how I felt.

“I’ve been living with regret in my heart ever since my parents died.”

As I began to speak, the three beautiful ladies turned to me and listened closely.

“I was desperately trying to wrack my brains to find out what this feeling was all about. But the more I searched, the more my heart began to tighten with pain.”

“……”

“But after I met Agnes-sama, Alice and Carol, everything changed. I don’t feel those heavy feelings anymore… because of Agnes-sama who gently showered me with her warmth and the cute Carol who’s like a little sister to me, and Alice who always helps me. My heart is no longer weighed as those feelings have been replaced by your warmth… so I want to express my gratitude. To Agnes-sama, to Alice, to Carol… and even to Kelts-sama who loved all three of you!”

I smiled to cover up my moist eyes.

Then…

“I think the darkest feeling Haruto-kun has been carrying around is probably loneliness.”

“Loneliness…”

“That’s right! I think I can understand, since my brother has a sad past just like us!”

“Yeah, I’m sure you must be lonely.”

“So it was that…”

Did I feel lonely all the time I was in Japan? Did I live in silence without knowing that it was loneliness?

Agnes-san and the others who gave me the answer to the riddle that had plagued me for so many years. There were no restrictions on me anymore.

I sighed with relief, and Agnes-san and I held out the flowers.

Sir Kelts.

I’ll protect your family, the family you cherished.

And I swore in my heart…

The three of them were giving me the covetous glances again.

Agnes-san began to speak.

“Haruto-kun.”

“Yes.”

“Actually, we’ve been harboring dark feelings for a long time as well.”

“R-really?”

“Yes. But unlike Haruto-kun, they are getting bigger and bigger.”

“That must be hard…”

“No, it’s not. It’s not hard. Because it can warm Haruto-kun’s heart with all of our heavy feelings.”

“!!”

Agnes-san said in a s**y voice, and after her Carol took over the baton.

“Haruto-onii-sama… mine, I want to be more pampered… so much that it melts…”

“C-Carol?

Carol locked me in with her ruby eyes,

“Haruto… since we have only just gotten married, so I’ll make sure to pour every drop of my heavy love to you…”

“Alice…”

I felt as if my heart had been slowly pulled close to those three by their lifeless RGB eyes.

Hey… this was a graveyard.

The faint remnants of my rational mind were pleading with me to get out of here as fast as I can, but I can’t.

”Hang in there, Haruto-kun! The love of my wife and daughters is very heavy~”

And by the time I felt someone whispering to me..

My eyes were dead too.

Like a prey poisoned in the fangs of a hunter.
