The CEO's Assistant

Chapter 39 - Manipulation

"Julien!" a deep voice called from the dark of the study as the young man walked by.

"Father?" Julien stopped to look into the seemingly empty study, "why are you sitting in here with the lights off?"

"Julien, do you know what I did today?" Martin asked sounding rather pleased with himself.

"What did you do today?" Julien causally strutted into the room fl.i.c.k.i.n.g the light on, to find the man sitting in his old brown leather desk chair, swirling a glass of bourbon looking rather pleased with himself.

"I finally met with President Clair." Martin didn't even look up at his son. "I told him all about Arianna and Liam."

"Why would you do that?!" Julien's dark eyes widened in horror as he ran his fingers through his curls. "I'm never going to get to her now, he'll kill her."

"I'm not as stupid as you, I told him she belonged to you." Martin rolled his eyes at his son's stupidity, "Besides if you'd never let her go in the first place, they would both be tied to us!" Gritting his teeth, whilst his dark eyes glared coldly at his son.

"How was I supposed to know that she would inherit the company, she's not her biological daughter!" Julien yelled at his father, finally revealing after nine years why he'd kicked her out. However, to his surprise, Martin didn't appear shocked or surprised it was as if he already knew.

"Don't you think I already knew that." Martin had had enough of his son's stupidity. "I've known Joan for thirty-six years; don't you think I would know if she'd given birth. It's common knowledge to anyone close to her that that brat isn't her biological daughter."

"If you knew, why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I didn't realise you'd be stupid enough to do something like this." Martin rubbed his temples.

Juliette noticed her friend stopped walking, when she turned back to see a pair of devilish smirks on the maids faces as they quickly scurried off to finish the laundry.

"Ari?" Juliette asked gently.

"Did you know?" Arianna looked at Juliette with an expression of devastation and betrayal.

"Look Ari, he only went-"

"No!" tears started to well in her eyes, "Mum was right, I shouldn't be here, he should just marry that heiress, live a life for his family. We're part of the wealthy elite, we don't get the privilege of falling in love." Privilege? Why did that sound term sound so familiar? Juliette wouldn't put her finger on why she felt personally acquainted with that particular word.

Before Juliette could even process what happened Arianna disappeared down the stairs and out the front door. She knew she wouldn't catch Arianna.

"Jesse. Max." two tall bodyguards appeared almost instantaneously. "Jesse follow her. Max come with me." Juliette demanded coldly. The pair simply responded with a respectful nod toward their mistress.

Trusting Jesse to take care of Arianna, Juliette decide to focus her attention on the cause of the problem. Spinning around she headed straight for the laundry room.

"Ha did you see that gold-digger's face?" Marion, the ebony haired maid, laughed.

"She won't be showing her face around here again." Maya laughed.

"Gold-digger?" a chilling, intimidating female voice echoed into the room from the doorway. "Is that what she told you?"

"Miss J…Juliette?" Marion looked worried and confused, as she slightly turned to look at Maya.

"Maya, why don't you tell Marion who Arianna really is?" Juliette's expression darkened to look far scarier than even her father. Unlike William and Liam, Juliette's expression was readable and paralysing, it wasn't cold, but sinister, almost evil. She held psychotic grin and her turquoise eyes were calm and chilling, like she could kill you without a second thought. Juliette eyes were focused solely on Maya, knowing how manipulative the maid had always been and that poor Marion had simple been caught up, unknowingly, in Maya's schemes.

"W…what do you mean, Miss Juliette?" Maya looked at her afraid and innocent, as if she knew nothing, this put Marion at ease. However, before she could claim false innocence, Juliette's long fingers were tightly gripped around Maya's slender neck. "W…what a…are y…you do…doing?" Maya tried to speak but was having trouble breathing.

"I'm not as naïve as my brother nor am I as merciful." Juliette pushed her against the wall, so hard Marion heard the loud thud, letting out a sharp scream. "You were there that day, when Jeffery and I were discussing the relationship between Arianna and Liam. You know exactly who she is. So tell Marion, who is that gold digger exactly."

Maya coughed barely holding her innocent gaze, until finally Maya looked completely defeated. Juliette loosened her grip, causing Maya to cough once more. "Fine, yes I knew who she was from the start."

"And who is she?" this time is was Marion who spoke, her tone was a mixture of confusion and anger.

"Her name is Arianna Richard, she is the only heir of Joan Richard, Mr Clair biggest rival. As if I was going to allow such a person to become Mrs. Clair. Who knows what kind of hidden agenda that skank, and her mother have!" Maya righteously yelled.

SL.A.P!

A loud, sharp sound filled the maid's ears, her cheek numb from the pain. Maya looked at the Juliette is shock and disgust. "You have no right." Juliette's overbearing presences cause the maids to start shivering, "It is not your job to decide who my brother is seeing." For the first time Juliette suddenly turned her attention to Marion who was watching in terror. "And you, go see Jeffery, collect your pay cheque and get out!"

"B…but, I didn't… know-"

"I don't care, the fact is that you still choose to blindly follow Maya's lead and still overstepped your position. Be glad all I'm doing is firing you." Her cold, indifferent voice was both calm and threatening at one time.

"Y…yes ma'am, s…sorry" Marion stuttered before quickly disappearing.

"Max!" Juliette yelled toward the laundry entrance, only for a large olive skinned, dark-haired security guard to appear. "Take her one of the guest rooms, making sure she doesn't leave until my brother gets home." Juliette pushed the maid towards the expressionless bodyguard.

"Hey let me go!" Maya shouted as Max grabbed her arm forcible dragging her towards a small guest room.

Juliette swiftly made her way out to the garden, looking down at her brother's name on her phone before pressing dial. "We have a problem."
