The Fourth Night Part 1

Early the next morning, Long Aotian did not hear anything from the palace and finally began to think that Joyce’s decision was correct.

He shouted Joyce’s name until he reached the study and in a worried voice he asked, “Will the old Demon Dragon really release the Primogeniture for the knight?”

“He will,” Joyce said with a yawn.

Long Aotian was still a little worried. “But I always have this feeling that he will not release the Primogeniture for the knight. How about we go to catch the princess again? She should not have arrived at the capital yet.

“Are you questioning my decision?”

“…No, I’m not,” Long Aotian said in a rush, However, he clenched his teeth when he remembered the great task of saving the Primogeniture, and said again, “It would be better to tie up the princess, so we have a better chance…”

“No,” Joyce said firmly. “The princess needs to report to the old Demon Dragon. Who is going to report to him if you are going to catch her? If he never knows who took the knight, then are we going to wait until the end of time for him to know?”

“But…”

Whatever else Long Aotian had to say gave Joyce a headache. She quickly said, “Prepare a carriage for me. I’m going to the market.

“The market?” Long Aotian was confused. “What do you need? I’ll buy it.”

“No, I’m going to personally go and have a look,” Joyce said excitedly. “Oh, right, I’m taking my little knight with me.”

“…”

When the carriage was ready, Joyce happily pulled Sean downstairs. Long Aotian nervously followed behind them the entire way. He sat down across from them in the carriage.

Joyce looked at him. He looked like he was on the lookout for his greatest enemy, and was too ashamed to speak during the carriage ride.

When they finally arrived, Joyce swiftly pulled Sean out of the carriage and ran to the market through the long, busy street with people coming and going. The people in the market were noisy, and it was mixed with all kinds of sweet fragrant blood.

They shook off Long Aotian, who was trying to closely follow them from behind. Joyce finally breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the bustling market in front of her. Her mood suddenly became extremely good.

She patted the young man next to her on the shoulder and energetically said, “Let’s go! Tell sister what you like, and sister will buy it for you!”

Sean looked at the girl in front of him and did not refute her words. He quietly followed her and watched her go from booth to booth with her eyes full of curiosity.

Most of the booths they went to had handmade items and trinkets. These items were everywhere in Karnia and were not new, but Joyce was very interested in them and wandered through each booth as if she had never seen them before.

But this interest of hers did not last very long as she was attracted by some delicious food.

In the cake shop, she was happily examining the cake molds displayed on the rack. She picked up several molds to ask the owner about it while she pulled Sean along.

“Which one do you like?” The girl, who had obviously fallen into a predicament, threw the problem to him.

Sean threw an indifferent glance at the extremely cute molds. “Whatever.”

Joyce did not get any useful suggestions from him and felt like it had become even more difficult to choose. She picked up several molds and looked at them over and over again, as if she was making an extremely difficult decision.

Sean had never experienced this kind of confusing shopping experience. He saw that it was taking her a long time to make a decision. His eyebrows wrinkled together tightly and he unexpectedly said, “Buy it all if you like it.”

“Oh, that’s right!”

When she heard him, her eyes lit up. Joyce handed over all the molds she was holding to the owner and asked him to help her get some ingredients to make a cake.

“I’ll make you a cake when we get back. What kind of cake do you like?”

Sean’s eyes flickered. He seemed to be thinking of something distant and warm and did not come back to his senses for a moment. Joyce was used to how he didn’t answer her, and when she thought he would remain silent, she heard him reply in a soft voice, “Strawberry.”

“You like strawberries?” His answer was slightly surprising to Joyce. Her eyes immediately curved as she smiled and she exclaimed, “So you like strawberries!”

Before Sean could speak, the owner of the cake shop came out smiling with a few bags of the ingredients.

“The total is 734 Karni1  coins.”

Joyce was stunned.

She suddenly remembered that Long Aotian, who was always at her side nagging at her, but held all the money, had just been abandoned by her. And she—had no money!!

The owner of the cake shop looked at her shocked expression and hesitated to ask, “Are you going to…”

Joyce was embarrassed and wanted to say that they would come back in a moment, when Sean took out the money to pay the owner.

“…”

Joyce looked at the owner of the cake shop and put a smile back on. The smile indicated that they would come again. Then, she quickly took the bags of flour, butter, other ingredients and molds from Sean.

“I got it!” She was full of smiles. It was clear from a moment ago that she had decided to get a lot of things and she had boasted to Sean that she would buy whatever he liked… She never thought she would not even have a coin on her right now.

Sean watched with a bit of alarm as she carried everything herself. She walked out the door with ease and in high spirits.

The owner of the cake shop watched them and then gave Sean a strange look. It was as if he were accusing Sean of letting the little girl carry everything, but Sean didn’t care. He looked at the petite figure carrying everything on her back and quickly followed her.
