The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 10 - Opening Up

"I'm shoffy…" (I'm sorry)(Rhaxtyx)

"That doesn't cut it!"

"It wash an acfidenf." (It was an accident.)

"How can that be an accident?! You clearly- Nnnnnhg!"

"Shoffy…" (Sorry…)

"Hmpf!"

Rhaxtyx, who just wake up to a beating from Angeline, had his face covered with bruises and was in the process of apologizing to Angeline. They were currently sitting down near the forest around the Feraz Village clearing.

Even though Angeline was saying that Rhaxtyx spoke in his sleep, said person had no recollection of it. Although he remembers the conversation he had with Yggdrasil, he thought it would be best that he kept it a secret.

"So! I asked you what were you dreaming about but you won't tell me. You looked like you were arguing." (Angeline)

"I don't remember. I really hate this myself! I rarely sleep and when I sleep I don't usually dream. But now I can't remember one of my rare dreaming sleeps!"

"Haah. Nothing can be done then. So, onto my next question, what happened here?"

"Beats me. After their initial assault, I lost my consciousness. I woke up to your fists today."

"And the blood on my hair? Do you know something about that?"

"I don't know. Maybe you hit your head? I told you I was out after their initial attack."

"Hmmmmm…" *Stare*

"Stop- Stop staring at me like that… Please…"

"Hmmmmm! Whatever. Looks like you really don't know."

"Whew."

"Hmm?"

"Nothing!"

"Anyway, are you hungry? There are some leftovers from my breakfast."

"I would love that."

"Okay, wait a bit."

Angeline started heating her soup while humming a tune.

"That tune… It is beautiful." (Rhaxtyx)

"You think so too? My mother used to sing it to me when I was a baby."

"That's adorable."

"Hey!"

"Sorry! I didn't mean anything."

"If you say so."

"So? Where is she now?"

With that, her hand stopped while she was pouring soup. She was looking to distance and didn't spoke for a while. Rhaxtyx knew he said something wrong and upset her.

"S-sorry. I didn't mean to-"

"It's okay. I know what you meant."

"Are you… okay?"

"I've been wondering that myself lately."

"I didn't mean to intrude. I- You rest. I'll take care of myself."

"No, it's okay. You ought to know. Even though we are travelling together I didn't mention anything. Plus, I don't want you fighting without a cause."

"You literally summoned me."

"Yes but I started seeing you as a friend, even though we've known each other for a week. But I still think of you like that. And I feel like I've been shutting you off."

"You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to, Ange."

"It's okay. I'm ready."

"I'm all ears."

"I used to live with my family in a small village not far from here actually. My parents were the owners of an inn and I grew up helping them. We were happy. Not the happiest family in the world but it was enough. We would serve customers every day didn't care about anything else. Even the fact that we were commoners escaped our brains and we were feeling like royalty in our small inn.

One day, some nasty looking customers showed up. They yelled and broke stuff. Just to scare my father. They demanded money among other things but he would always fight them off in needed. After that we would have a nice dinner together, knowing we defeated them. This would happen every other week. They were very determined to have our inn. Maybe they were ordered to do so who know. They always made the same demands. And my father would always scare them off.

The father was kind and brave, he never yielded. Maybe that was the cause. One day, a fight broke out in front of their inn and my father naturally went out to look. I was scared and my mother was held me close. The fight was between some village folk and the thugs who came to our inn, they were beating innocent people. Dad would yell and beg them to stop. But they wouldn't listen. Then, out of nowhere something sharp found its way towards him. No one knew who it was. No one saw the face. Everybody stopped after dad fell to the ground. Mother rushed beside him, cried, begged for help. But no one would listen. They would turn their faces around, acting like they didn't see anything, even refusing to help the man who braved death for their sake. We were left behind by our neighbors.

Mother and I kept on running the inn while still acting happy but deep inside we were crying blood. A deep wound was left behind and we could do nothing to stop it from bleeding. As if it was nothing, those big bad guys would keep coming from time to time. They would come every other day. They would ask for the same things, and mother would say that she knew nothing. That was not enough for them though. So every time they came, they would do try to do stuff to mother. They would touch her, tell her nasty things. And no one would try to stop them. And as they were customers, we couldn't refuse to serve them as they would stir up trouble from that as well.

After some time, mother would not be enough for their tastes. So they went after me as well, those animals! They would talk at first. Then it escalated to touching. Mother would yell at them, hit them to stop. They would stop while laughing and telling it was just a joke at first, saying things like determining my aptitude for training and stuff. But things escalated quickly. They would ask the mother to come with them. And after some time, me as well.

Mother thought it was enough. She yelled at them, hit them. Asked them to leave our establishment and me alone. This got those big bad guys angry. They wrecked havoc in the inn. They hit mother and took her to one of the back rooms. She would fight back, but big bad guys were strong. She could do nothing. After a while her cries were heard. She was begging for them to stop. But they wouldn't. No one knows how but mother broke free and came to my side, gave me something special and told me to run as fast as I could and to never look back. And in panic, I did as she told. I ran and ran. I ran all over the place, all alone."

*Crack!*

"Ous… calin…"[Just (mere) humans]

"Rex?"

Rex's head was down but one could tell he was angry by looking at his trembling hand holding a cracked soup bowl. He was eating as he listened but after a while he forgot he was even hungry. His anger surfaced and he could not help but go serious for a moment there. He even slipped to his own language. His behavior and low growl made Angeline worried for him and she wondered if she did good to tell him after all.

Even though he is a god, all he did before was experimenting. He met with other gods as well but they did not consider each other as friends. More like business partners. He always yearned for fun and experience. That's why he loved to watch mortals as they lived. And that's why, he thought Angeline as someone precious. She gave him new opportunities to learn fun and otherwise impossible things for him.

Even though she scolded him for doing something stupid every other time, he thought of it as experience, as a bond. He got to live among mortals and experience different things thanks to her. Even if their time together was short, thanks to her he was not alone. She helped him understand things and kept him company. And that was invaluable to him.

"Rex?" (Angeline)

"Hmm? Oh. Sorry. I was just lost in thought."

"Are you okay?"

"Do not worry! I, Rhaxtyx, The God of Magic, shall help you solve your problems!"

As he spoke, he made a smug expression and pounded his c.h.e.s.t proudly, to show that he could do anything. Angeline was lost for a moment but dropped her head and spoke out.

"Yeah yeah God of Magic. Whatever. First, clean the mess you made!"

"Sorry. I'm on it."

He turned around to clean the soup he dropped earlier. While he turned his back to Angeline, she smiled ever so slightly. Thanking him with her thoughts. But he would never know of this. Just like she would never know the murderous look on Rhaxtyx's eyes.

After ten or so minutes, Rhaxtyx was done cleaning and Angeline kept her feelings in check. Then they looked at each other and Rhaxtyx asked while sitting down.

"So. Where to now? You couldn't meet the person here." (Rhaxtyx)

"Yeah, that's a shame. For now, why don't we just, you know, walk?"

"Towards?"

"Does it really matter?"

"You don't know do you?"

"Shut up! I just haven't decided what to do yet."

"Well its fine with me. How about…. That direction? What do you think?"

"Okay. But no messing around from now on!"

"I can't promise~"

As Rhaxtyx told that, he started to walk faster and faster, eventually start running.

"Hey come back here! Hey!"
