The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 21 - Someone Else's Life

"You like it?"

Rhaxtyx did a spin while holding his arms out and smiling. He looked like he was showing his new bought clothes to a friend. The cloaked figure did not speak however and they readied their sword.

"Man you are boring! I wanted your opinion on this you know? I don't know how much I look like that man okay? Help me out a little!"

Even if Rhaxtyx spoke, the cloaked figure did not listen. They only dashed towards Rhaxtyx and started slashing. Their movements were swift and precise, they only targeted his weak points like arm pit or inside the elbow. But Rhaxtyx was swift as well. He dodged this figure's strikes one by one. And if he could not dodge them completely, he made them hit him on his other parts.

"You really are no fun. Do you even get invited to parties?"

"Grrr!"

"Ooo! A sound! Finally we are getting there!"

The cloaked figure was frustrated because of Rhaxtyx's meaningless talks and the fact that they could not hit him. Rhaxtyx went on with this 'show' in this darkening small alley for a while. He would continue talking about random things all the while dodging every attack his opponent threw at him. He of course could not dodge all of them but he looked like he wasn't bothered by that fact at all. The number of cuts on his body kept going up but he still moved as fast as before.

The cloaked figure had it enough so they mumbled something under their breath and after a while their blade started to shine silver.

"Ooo a spell! That neat! I would like to learn that as well."

After the silver glow on the blade, the cloaked figure's attack became faster. More and more cuts started to appear on Rhaxtyx's body but he still kept going on like before, rambling about stuff and moving around as if he was dancing.

"This is getting boring faster than I thought. Hey! Do something will you. You are only swinging your sword! If you can cast spells then use some! Only sword attacks are boring after all. Hit me with something!"

"Grr! Why won't you die!?"

"Oh? You could talk?"

A hoarse voice came out of the cloaked figure's mouth as they stopped. They were tired and they breathed heavily while looking at Rhaxtyx with a solemn look.

"Why won't I die? Hmm that's easy. Because I can't!"

"That's ridiculous!"

"No it's not! You saw it with your own eyes!"

"I do not believe you can't die!"

"Sheesh! I told you already! I can't die! Seriously! These generic villains! Always talking lame. Look I'm getting bored so you better do something."

The cloaked figure started attacking again. This went on for about fifteen or so minutes until the cloaked figure had a hard time standing up. Rhaxtyx looked at them and smiled.

"You done? Good then. Oi little bastard! We are going!"

*Scree!*

"I don't care if you ate too much! That's your own fault so get your a.s.s up!"

"Wait! You won't kill me?" (The cloaked figure)

"Huh? Why would I? It's no fun. The cleanup is hard and takes too long as well. I don't like it."

"What? I just *Gasp* tried to kill you, you know! And you won't even interrogate me?"

"Why would I? You tried to kill me because you want no witnesses of what you are about to do in this alley. It's simply none of my business. What happens to this town or its people, I don't really care."

"Aren't *Haah* aren't you a citizen of Herron!?"

"Do I look like one?"

"Well kind of!"

"Oh really? That's a bummer then. Well let me clarify then; I don't give a damn. Okay? Okay. Goodbye!"

"Wha- What!?" *Sigh*

"Look if you want I can attack you but you won't be happy."

"Don't look down on me!"

With a shout the cloaked figure once more charged at Rhaxtyx. But this strike was not as refined as their previous attacks, clearly showing their irritation. Rhaxtyx looked at this and gave a wry smile. After that he focused and started manipulating his shadow. He caught the swing with his hand and held the figure's arm, after that he commanded his shadow to merge with the figure's and climb up towards their neck.

This shocked the cloaked figure. They were a trained assassin yet a random man could easily catch their arm. The thought of this person was not simple floated on their mind as the shadow made its way towards their neck. While they were waiting for a slow and choking death, that never happened. When they opened their eyes again, they were alone in the alley.

Rhaxtyx left the alley with Badgey on his shoulder and tidied his clothes. There were some cuts on them but he could hide the damage on his clothes with Disguise easily. He started to walk towards the inn while the sun dyed the sky a darker shade.

When he entered, the innkeeper was among the tables, talking with customers and having a good time. When he saw Rhaxtyx he walked towards him.

"Oh welcome back son. How's yer day?"

"O-oh. Hey, o-old man."

"Oh? Somethin wrong son? You look a bit red."

"No-nothing is wrong old man!" 'Damn, I guess they were in a good relationship! This'll be hard.'

"If yer not feelin' well go to yer room and rest a littl!"

"Ye-yeah. That is a good idea old man. I'll do… that."

*Scratch* "Weird."

"What's wrong boss?" (Waiter)

"Nothin I 'ope."

Rhaxtyx made his way towards his room. Just as he was about to enter he stopped and looked to the door to his left. That was the room of his dead neighbor. The one that he was disguised as.

"Yeah, that would be stupid."

He went to that door and tried to open it. But it was locked and Rhaxtyx did not have the keys to that room.

"Damn. So what now? You ate the keys too right? Should I talk to that old innkeeper for a spare? I have to do it, I guess."

"Do what?" (Sam)

"Oh! H-hey, there."

"Hello Rax. How have you been?"

"Fine. How are you?"

"I'm fine thanks. I found your keys inside the room when cleaning it. You should be more careful you know."

"Ah really? Thanks a lot."

"Have you eaten? Do you want me to get you something?"

"No thanks. I don't feel hungry. I'm just a bit tired, that's all."

"Okay then."

"Bye."

Rhaxtyx entered the door and waited for the waitress to go away. After that he breathed out and sat on the bed. Badgey came out of his clothes and landed in front of him. It looked at him for a second and climbed the table to sit on the windowsill. Just as it was about to get on, a skunk like creature jumped at it and began attacking.

Rhaxtyx was thinking what to do next when he heard the commotion. He turned his head towards his left and saw Badgey and another creature hiss at each other. He let out a sigh and walked to the table and picked Badgey up.

"Would you stop getting in trouble for once? And what the hell is this? A wild beast?"

When this skunk like creature saw Rhaxtyx, jumped on him and snuggled to his c.h.e.s.t. But after a moment its eyes turned vicious and clawed at him. Rhaxtyx, jumped by this, threw Badgey and this skunk like creature to the ground.

"OW OW! What the hell? What did I do to you?"

*Hiss*

This creature got ready to attack again after landing but did not make a move immediately.

"So you realized I'm not your master. From scent, I presume? Or maybe the mana fluctuations… That's weird. I must admit, you are clever. If only other beasts were as clever! Maybe you are a magic beast?"

Rhaxtyx turned his head towards Badgey. There was ridicule in his eyes. Badgey looked back at him angrily and bared its teeth.

*Scree!* (Badgey)

"Stop looking at me like that! You know you can't hurt me! But that's not the point now. I have to keep this a secret. And only one thing comes to my mind. What do you think, little bastard?"

*Hiss* (Badgey)

After looking at each other, they began closing in on the beast. Rhaxtyx from its right, Badgey from its left. Skunk like beast walked backwards until hitting its b.u.t.t to the wall. After that it stood on its hind legs and kept taking steps backwards, but to no avail. It was scared because of the aura coming from both Badgey and Rhaxtyx. It was crying and scratching the walls but they did not stop.

A couple of patrons who were walking near the room at the time heard things falling to the ground and some yelling coming from within the room for a couple of minutes. Even if they were curious, none of them dared to go closer to the room out of fear.

After Badgey took care of the beast, it curled up to a ball and started to doze off. Rhaxtyx was looking through the pieces left from Badgey's dinner. He found a monster core and saw the scent glands of the beast at the last second and made Badgey stop.

"I wanted to have it a guinea pig. But no, you had to eat it! Haah there's no meaning in crying over spilt milk. So it is a skunk. A monster core huh? I stopped this idiot from eating it but I wonder if it would have any benefits to it? Hmm, let's ponder on that later. Maybe I can make something with this gland. If I can't then I can just sell it later. Also I really need to learn the water element as well, cleaning with hand becomes too much after a while."

Rhaxtyx talked out loud while looking around the room. There were blood splashes on the walls and on the ground. He scratched the back of his head and began cleaning. It was already midnight when he finished. He dropped himself on the bed and thought.

'Spells are good and all. I can learn new ones whenever I want but I have to study what I have in my hands now rather than looking for something new. I should do daily practices on this Shadow Arts or else I'll really be in a tight spot in the future.'

With that thought, he sat up on the bed and closed his eyes, beginning his practice in the mysterious knowledge in his consciousness.
