The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 57 - Two of a Kind

"I see. An adventurer huh? I can't believe I've never heard of an adventurer of your caliber." (Antaler)

"Well, that is normal. I don't really like too much attention. Thank for the help just now, really save me."

"Are you sure, because it looked like you could take them on easily."

"No no, that's so but… I'm talking about her."

Rhaxtyx pointed at the nearby shop owner, collecting her 'debt' from the assassins that fought in her shop. She was using various spells and formations to make the assassins suffer until the guards arrived.

Faced with this, both Antaler and Rhaxtyx lost their courage and sighed in relief that she was on their side.

"I see your point." (Antaler)

"Yeah. Anyway I gotta go now."

"A-a-ah wait!"

"Hmm?"

Antaler grabbed Rhaxtyx arm in a flurry but didn't say anything for a while. He froze where he stood as even he wasn't expecting himself to act like this.

"Ah, I'm sorry. I just got too excited."

"It's okay! Don't worry. But you seem like you have a couple of questions. I know that expression quite well."

It was just as Rhaxtyx said. Antaler had many questions inside his mind but was waiting for a good opportunity to ask them away. Rhaxtyx's this behavior was very helpful in that matter.

"Ah yes. But before I ask them, why don't we have a tea or something?"

"Tea?"

Antaler dispelled the barrier spell that was around the shop and talked to the shop owner a bit. From their conversation, Rhaxtyx gathered that it was about the damages and whatnot. He wasn't really interested in it so he didn't listen. He looked around and saw what the fight had caused. The damage was not significant, as expected from a magic shop, but it was not to be taken lightly as well.

Some of the display cases were broken and their glass was everywhere. Racks that were broken, books everywhere. Probably spell books. The longer Rhaxtyx kept looking at the store, the more he wanted to take a couple of scrolls or books for future studying. This thought kept lingering in his mind and as he was determined to get into action, he was stopped by the voice of the store owner.

"Thanks for helping me get rid of some trash. As a thank you, I can give you young men two Tier 2 spell scrolls."

She spoke while wiping her hands to a towel. The white towel was painted black immediately because of all the ash and soot on her hands. The fate of the assassins was apparent as there was only a black spot on the part where they were. After seeing this, Rhaxtyx gulped and sighed internally out of relief that he didn't make the shop owner angry. Or else he would be in a lot of pain.

"So? Don't you want my thanks? I'll get angry y'know."

Her eyes were dead serious and even Rhaxtyx thought he would die for a second. After that, without hesitation, he nodded furiously. So much so that his neck started hurting after some point. The owner laughed and picked up a handful of scrolls. She showed them to Antaler and Rhaxtyx. While Rhaxtyx was drooling after seeing them, Antaler was chuckling thanking the woman.

"Thank you for this but I'm afraid I have to refuse." (Antaler)

After this sentence, the air around the owner turned cold. Her eyes were drilling holes through Antaler. Out of fear, he began explaining clumsily.

"Y-You see. Because of-of m-my status, I am f-f-forbidden to accept these kinds of rewards! Yes that is it!"

"Haha, I know Antaler boy. I was just teasing you."

"Just let me go already."

"If he refuses, can I have his part as well?" (Rhaxtyx)

Rhaxtyx stuck his head between them. His eyes were on the scrolls and his drool was so close to them that the owner slapped him away.

"No! You only get two."

"Aww."

Rhaxtyx drooped his shoulders and picked up the two scrolls from the owner. After talking with Antaler about what will happen and what should she do, Rhaxtyx and Antaler left. There were no traces of anything that has happened inside the shop.

"That bastards knew how to do their job. Hey you! Come here!"

"How dare you talk to a city guard like that!"

"My name is Antaler. I'm guessing you know that name?"

After Antaler gave his name, the guards stiffened and all apologized. Antaler then gave orders to bring more guards and seal the area. They then left the there. Rhaxtyx was impressed with Antaler. He had some power it seemed and he seemed like a cool fellow.

'Now there's only one thing left after being friendly with this guy.'

Antaler really led him to a nearby tea house. Its structure reminded Rhaxtyx of a country called Xue Dynasty in Grelia. They had similar architectural design with a lot of green and light-yellow colors. They went to the second floor and entered a private room. A waitress entered and served them tea and after she left, Antaler turned to Rhaxtyx and began speaking.

"So, I have a lot of questions."

"You can start from any one of them. I'm in a good mood, I'll probably answer most of them."

"That's good to hear. First of all."

Antaler shifted a little bit on his chair and cleared his throat before asking. He opened his eyes wide and his voice was loud with excitement.

"What was thaaat! I've never seen a person learn a spell like that! That was so fast! What is your secret?"

"Well like I said, trade secret."

"Aw come on! We fought together there! Back to back! Don't leave me hanging man!"

"And it is also a bit complicated and it is a bit personal."

"What, there's a magical contract that stops you or something?"

"Yes! That's it! It is a really powerful contract that even I can't do anything against it."

Rhaxtyx couldn't believe Antaler would give him a perfect excuse for it so he decided to go with it. Who would know anyway? He was a God that was summoned from another world so everything around him was bound to be different and unexplainable.

"That's a shame. Is there anything you can tell me about it?"

Antaler got close to Rhaxtyx over the table. In his eyes was endless curiosity and a need to know. Much like Rhaxtyx, this man was a freak when it came to anything magic. This amused Rhaxtyx and it also made him somewhat relieved.

'So he is like me after all.'

"There is!"

"Tell me!"

"I will!"

"I'm waiting!"

"Okay!"

Rhaxtyx and Antaler kept looking at each other with idiotic smiles on their faces for a while before Antaler shook his head and looked at Rhaxtyx with a confused gaze. Rhaxtyx returned the look with a laugh and started speaking.

"So here's the things I can tell you. I learn spells in a unique way. I can either study them or inspect them but those are way too slow. I can also learn spells if I am affected by them. No matter the source, I learn them. Just like I learned to enchant my sword after being attacked by those guys."

"That. Is. AMAZING! Oh my god! Is there a way to teach it?! If there is then you have to teach it to me!"

"I don't know but it is amazing isn't it!"

"I would kill to have that kind of talent!"

"You won't… really kill right?"

"No no! I wouldn't! And it's not like you can die right?"

"Yeah"

""Haha!""

After they laughed for a while and sipped their tea, Rhaxtyx spoke out.

"Before we continue though. I have a request."

"Please name it. I will try to do everything I can."

"Wonderful. I also have some questions but I will ask them after this. As for my request, in exchange of answering your questions to my best ability, you will teach me new spells!"

Antaler stopped for a moment and looked at Rhaxtyx to determine if he was serious. It sure looked like it. He closed in and spoke slowly.

"So you are asking me, to cast spells, on you. So you can learn them?"

"Precisely!"

"Deal! I had some spells that I wanted to test for a long time now!"

"Good!"

With that, their long discussion began. Antaler first asked about his prowess at magic and was shocked to learn that Rhaxtyx was very talented at magic. That was why he wanted to have friendly relations with him. That seemed not that hard as Rhaxtyx was already talking excitedly with Antaler and he was also a magic freak much like himself. They both had that in common.

Their discussion started as a simple questions and answers session between them where they would each ask a question to the other and the other would answer but it quickly derailed and became a discussion of magic system and theory. They were talking about how one should train to be able to control their mana perfectly and then quickly switch to how one should train in the first place.

"Look I'm telling you! If a person trains like that recklessly they would explode! How can a person even attract natural mana and be able to control it? Are you crazy?!" (Antaler)

"Look I'm telling you it is possible! That's why I have this much control over my mana!"

*Woosh*

"Stop creating tiny breezes all over the room! You might be able to succeed with that devilish regeneration ability but not everyone has that! I'm sure not every demon has it either!"

"I don't know about demons but some humans really have monstrous constitution. The amount of mana I feel from you is above any average human!"

"How can you not know about demons!? You come from them don't you?!"

"What?!"

"What?!"

*BOOM!*

As they stopped talking and looked at each other with confused looks, an explosion sound occurred around the market nearby. When they looked, they saw black smokes rising and a couple of silhouettes jumping from roof to roof. The at the front was actually really familiar person for Rhaxtyx.

"What the hell was that?!" (Antaler)

"There are people on the roofs. Is that… Miriam?!"
