The Confused Explorer

Chapter 28 - Beautiful Poison

There can be no bravery, without madness. Corrupted earth and tainted blood reek of the foul and intoxicating smell of corroding flesh. The insane smile, for they know the truth of this world and what the ungodly monster that resides below us all is. Sins roam the dividing line between madness and sanity.

The face split by the swords blade in an act of valor with eyes as hollow as the battlefield before it. No happiness comes from a sane man here. Fighting for one's king and nation should be an honour? Who are they kidding! This nothing but hell out here.

Soft gold ribbons swayed gently with the desolate mountains breeze, moving carelessly above the deep yet small ravines residing below them.

The black eyed beast that rested in a hole that could easily fit a mansion quaked with the teetering sound of a collapsing building. Its l.u.s.trous deep red and light turquoise armor had an almost sizable hole, yet it seemed unhindered by it. As the peac.o.c.k colored beast climbed up from below, the small monster that held control over the entirety of the area above, with its maze of ravines, waited for it.

A high whistling sound echoed deftly through the desolate mountain plateau. A long white bodied train like object moved through the newly created soft snow quickly and alone, leaving a trail behind it. Its speed fast enough to be a blur to the eyes.

It's whistling like a screeching ghoul and its existence unknown or forgotten by both The Beast and The Monster as it tried to escape from this cursed plateau.

Time was nigh for both Monster and Beast to fight. What they fought over, and what it might entail for the encroaching forest and mountain was a mystery.

The Monster was patient as it shrouded itself in a hazy mask of golden gas waiting for The Beast, however its eyes still shone brightly with the emotion of...greed.

But time waits for nothing, for it wasn't long at all before the towering shadow resided over the area once more. So large was it that The Monster seemed nothing more than a pebble.

Deep rumbling echoed from The Beast's body. Its antenna twitched repeatedly as the two light black eyes that could see in spectrums beyond any other creature set its gaze upon the tiny Monster before it.

Neither creature bothered analysing the others abilities too keenly and although, if given enough time, they might be able to deduce such obvious things, they had neither the time nor patience. It was life-or-death at this point and moving aside to think of the other adversaries abilities would be a death sentence if they were unlucky with their choice. They are both Monster and Beast! There were more important things to them at that moment.

Both seemed stuck in their staring contest, if only for a second, as the friction was thick in the air.

The Beast struck first. Its most obvious, and maybe only attack, made no noise as it stuck-for it was to fast.

The surrounding area shattered like glass in the shockwaves advance, and although it could not get rid of the entirety of the dominion of The Monster, it took an sizable amount of it out.

A wave of snow and ice rushed high along the the end of the shockwave as its piercing noise and destruction made it obvious on what was happening. The golden ribbons made from The Monsters power were torn through like paper as they dissipated with the most singular of touches of destruction.

It took no longer than a minute before the destruction began to until it resided like the tides.

As the faint click of The Beast's Club cl.i.c.k.i.n.g back into place echoed through the crater, all was quiet except for the faint rumble of its unmoving body.

The Beast was not stupid, only slow in thought process and action. It knew that The Monster was still alive and only where it was remained a mystery.

Putting up its guard, it waited for the inevitable attack from its invisible adversary.

However no physical attack ever came.

The world around the beast turned warped and bent. Everything became flushed and wavy.

This, however, had no effect on The Beast. Although its entire world had basically became an abstract art painting it paid no heed to such a 'trivial' matter.

Its logical thought in the split second between its first attack to until it got attacked was to raise mayhem.

Overwhelming might wrought destruction on the area. The Beast left no measure for counter attacks as it played to the songs beat. Flinging attacks in any random direction, for it cared not of hitting its target and seeked only to destroy enough to where its target was destroyed along with the area.

Stomping wildy as it flung snow and ice into the air, with the occasional fling of its destructive clubs. Not long after its new plan did the rise of snow and ice bring a shroud over the area, blanketing all in a mask of hazy white as the rumbles and explosions of physical destruction echoed cleanly for miles.

Nothing could stand in The Beast's way. Nothing.

As time hung high like a blazing star and the pearls of the night strung upon the chorus of light, The Beast's rampant destruction seemed nigh of destroying and turning the once beautiful lights of golden ribbons into a deep and bottomless crater.

Along with The Beast's terror and almost indescribable physical prowess, The Monster's intelligence and greed also knew no bounds. It had ran from such a terrifying being long before it started its second phase of attack. The mental attack on The Beast's eyesight had merely been a distraction for escaping.

It instead pursued...much greater interests.

As said by many, Time waits for no one. The Monster was greedy, but not foolish or brutish. Getting into an altercation with a beast a thousand times you size and with enough power to create craters is nothing but stupid.

Its plan had been quite simple from the beginning. Ever since it had arrived to the surface it had smelled quite an enticing scent far towards the north-east that had been quickly nearing its location. However it had stopped and adjusted its trajectory to take a more circled approach around its area of influence in order to reach the slope that took them down the mountain.

And although The Monster was planning on getting rid of that large Beast soon, it could wait.

Arriving near the white ghouls screeching body, The Monster waited patiently. Figuring out the strength of an enemy was not so clear cut as a single look. Speeding along in a blur of white snow and screeching air, it was fast beyond measure.

However before it had time to prepare to halt the speeding titan- it actively sped up.

Snow flung higher than ever near the front of its bullet shaped body. It no longer held back its strength. The once sound breaking ghoul broke past sight and no longer allowed visible sight.

As they got closer towards the slope it became increasingly harder to even see anymore as the blanket of natural falling snow was replaced by a shrouding fog from a Beast's violent power.

Oh how close they got. A mere couple of second before reaching their set destination and riding off towards the beautiful mystic forest below.

But fate loves playing pranks. They were quite easily halted in their tracks.

As soon as they sped closer to the edge, The Monster knew they were desperately trying to reach for an escape, allowing their weakness to show spectacularly.

A thin wall of golden, almost transparent, light ground itself right in the path of the large ghoul.

Turul knew they were getting close. He had long ago dumped the large truck of meat in gain of faster speeds, as well as a shield of wind with a tipped point in favor of even the smallest increase in speed. Strained, now was the time to push hard for survival!

As The Monster's presence neared their location, Turul knew they were caught within the crossfire. For what reason did it have to rush after them? They simply wanted to leave with no harm done.

They perhaps at one point came to this bleak area in search of adventure and treasure yet they know only want to leave wounded and defeated.

However the denizen of this area will not let that. They have something that he wants. Everything comes at a cost.

As it sped closer to them with agility akin to teleportation, Turul knew he wasn't fast enough. They would be caught and killed in less than a minute at this rate.

He may be able to fight back against this Monster, however while trying to protect Mike from harm? They would be slaughtered like chickens if that Monster had the power to back up its aura.

There can be no rest! Pushing himself now more than ever, Turul reached for the stars with a mighty flap of his wings. A cry unheard! A junction on the road. Fear can drive, but so can hope.

As the edges of that slope resided close enough to reach for, the untouchable wall set its body down upon the snow and ice. Even while blanketed in white haze it was undeniable.

Without thinking Turul pulled Mike within his embrace as his back slammed into that thin barrier.

Turul is strong. Unbelievably so. He has power to destroy continents at a.d.u.l.thood. It is the unfairness that comes from power, and the price to be paid for such a thing is extinction. He may be the last of his species. How had their species ever come to be possible? It is unknown how most Legendary beings come to fruition, how could it be any different for his species? Evolution doesn't work to make anything stronger. It only allows for adaptation. Birds, as an example, have a variety of different beaks and talons for their biome of life. Bugs learn camouflage and flight. Plants learn fruits and seeds. It is the way of life. The ones who can survive and persist pass on what they have. The ones who can't struggle and adapt die. Nothing happens without reason. That is why some plants and animals simply can't exist. Every animal and plant has a reason for being the way it is.

Turul is strong, however there is always a limit.

As he crashed into that barrier at speeds faster than sound the feathers as hard as diamond bent and broke. As he crashed, the bones more durable than any metal cracked.

Slamming against that barrier broke it apart, but it managed to not only stop their momentum but also bounce them back.

Laying weakly on his stomach, Turul struggled to even move as The Monster calmly approached. A broken spirit with darkness as his companion. He could do nothing in the face of such a being

The man lay before him with the contents of their adventure spilled out around him.

Golden bones and transparent crystals.

That hazy miasma of golden fog encroached carelessly. The pearls of the night blocked from vision. Their chorus cut short. Time waited for no one. White haze intertwined with golden light, oh how beautiful it seemed! A beautiful poison dances with death as the smell of tainted blood and corrupted earth gives one solace. That is where we all meet our fate, beneath the dirt and mud.

Crystallized attraction and sorrowful tales bound together to form the nigh unseen and forgotten to lay b.a.r.e before the sins regal and man-made love. The beauty underlying with poison and corruption that even time and light cannot heal. Humans worshipping in faith to an unseen God, only for mans fraudulence to ring the bell of the wicked and the tainted. The Mythology that brings ruin. Fire burning the innocent. Wrath in one's bones. Greed in one's heart. L.u.s.t in one's mind. Gluttony in one's stomach. Envy in one's eyes. Sloth in one's muscles. Pride in one's tongue.

Beauty of the finest work, a gemstone uncut shimmers with potential!
