The Dao Of Evolution

Chapter 9 - Ghost Valley 2

In a damp cave that smelt of mold, sat Caleb staring into the dark abyss of an entrance, taking shelter from the howling yin winds, that would corrode one's spirit and body. It was his third day in the periphery forest, barely surviving.

Surviving off of insects and rotting flesh he found decaying in the woods, it was a dire situation that would test anyone's limits.

As time passed Caleb's slowly heard the winds die down, and knew it was time to leave as he might not have the opportunity the next day, learning from his first day of traveling through the forest, and encountering a Evil Spirit feasting on a carcass, a floating black ball of a mix between gas and a putrid liquid that floated, with a pair of sharp teeth and white eyes that seemed full of hatred and despair, it had the ability to sense living creatures in a certain radius.

After experimenting and almost dying on a few occasions he learned that these weird beings were s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e to body heat, a fact he found about at the expense of many forest land creatures. By cycling the poisons in his body he was able to cool his body temperature but at the expense of arousing the poison in his body he suffered mind numbing pain that coerced throughout his body as he travelled.

Searching for his poison to complete his art is his goal, and the few days he was in the forest he encountered many different poisonous materials and lifeforms, some even being capable of stealing your breath from miles away, but none of them were quite good enough for Caleb's standard. He wanted to set a precedent that has never been set, in the history of the art. A new form of toxic one might say.

Leaping tree to tree, hiding in the shadows he spotted a flower in the shape of a brain covered in fresh blood, that seemed to have a resonance with the poisons in his body, it sat on a small peak where no other vegetation can be seen the king of the area.

Getting ready to leap down and rush towards the flower to inspect it, Caleb notices shuffling corpses surrounding the peak, with determined eyes he runs.
