Chapter 13 - A broken alpha

13.

"I told you to stop messing around that child, didn't it?" said a voice coming from the door of Jacob's garage. His old shed has gradually morphed into this larger workshop where he spent his time. Somehow his passion for mechanics became his actual job. Jacob looked up from an old Chevy's hood.

"It's not like I can do anything about it," he wiped his greasy hands on an old rag then shoved it into his back pocket. Jacob's childhood friend Quil and the beta of his pack leaned against the doorframe with a sigh.

"Come on, Jacob. You're my alpha it's my duty to point it out. Are you really satisfied with this choice? Man, just look at you? Hiding, rotting in this—" he gestured to the mess of discarded tools and scrap spare parts littering the floor. Jacob pursed his lips in disagreement.

"I like this, it put food on the table," he protested slamming his fists in his pockets.

"Yeah, right," Quil narrowed his eyes unconvinced.

"Quil," Jacob sighed. "What do you want me to do?" he opened his arms in exasperation. He pushed away from the doorframe and eyed his friend.

"You're the alpha. Figure it out. And for god sake take a shower," he turned around and walk away. Jacob grabbed the dirty rag from his back pocket and threw it across the room out of rage. Then he regretted it and rushed to the door only to found that Quil was gone. The sound of a closing door caught his attention, he looked down the slow that led to the dirt road that led to the entrance of the reserve.

"Shit!" he let out. Standing next to her silver car was Bella. Technically the Cullens can't enter the Quileute's lands. Somehow, Bella was an exception even though she was not a living breathing human anymore.

"Jacob, can we talk?" just those words made Jacob's anxiety level rise. He lowered his head as he got closer. He was waiting for something like that to happen. The moment he will be doomed to live in eternal agony. The moment Renesmee will be taken away from him. Bella frowned at him as she pulled her collar close around her neck to hide her pearly skin. She didn't want humans to peek at her in plain daylight. "Can we walk," she led the walk towards the rocky beach. Jacob reluctantly followed her.
