The Date

Chapter 53 - A birthday

53.

Ten years later.

I was officially sixteen years old. However, my face looked the same. I've spent numerous years studying those like me. From the little information I've gathered, Benjamin helped me in my quest. Mom said those like me were so rare. Indeed we were. Between killing the mother—like literally eating her alive from the inside while she is pregnant. How gross is that? No wonder, we are considered demons that needed extermination. The Vulturi did a great job of erasing all the abominations from the face of the globe.

Yes, cross-species marriage was not seen as a blessing. I bet you only want to know one thing—Jacob. I also want to know. Sadly, he hovered just out of my mental reach. Leaving his scent in the air or sighing in his sleep. Always one step away but never really far. I keep chasing ghosts around the corner of a street or turning around at night as I get home from my lectures.

Honestly, I feel old, crushed with the piling years, and tired. Don't laugh. I'm sure I sound like an old granny. I guess I've spent too much time with Grandma Esmee those past few years. I've started to pick up her habits. I've finished college a little ahead. My excellent grades helped me skip the unnecessary hassle. Yes, I attended a normal school with normal people. Dad insisted that I blend in. Also, I had to prove to Jacob I wasn't a dumb kid.

He...he kept his promise. He never once contacted me to Dad's enjoyment. I guess he held on to the hope that Jacob will get married and grow old and fat. I'm not sure how werewolves age. I've heard it's slower than an average human. I wasn't counting on Dad's nasty hopes. I knew he would wait the right time. I was just tired of the wait. Like, come on. Show yourself!
