The Duchess of the Attic

12. Duke Territory

A few days later, Trevor's examination established that the injustice was being committed.

Moreover, for quite some time now - it has been done since the time of the death of the previous Duke - it has apparently become quite bold since Sir Northam's death.

A few more years ago the drought seemed to have clapped.

"I heard rumors that Sir Northam, Duke of McCloud's guardian, seemed to have returned to the Territory every once in a while, but the Duke at heart said he hasn't returned once since your parents died. So whoever created this record book - in short, as an administrator, I guess I could have lied. Even if you weren't supposed to be returned to your territory, Count Holloway - you should be well checked, like your husband. You can also snort that your husband said 'sweet' about the Duke."

"After all, the killer is a land administrator... Well, the Duke is obsessed with angels."

"Yes?"

"Yeah, it's nothing. So, what am I supposed to do? Sue the Duke?

"It would be best to do so, but it sounds like you have solid evidence before you do. I don't know if he's a solo or multiple offender."

"Sure evidence?

"Yes. Probably something like back books should exist. However, that's from the consulate on the Duke's territory... there should be a formal record book in the study, so you wouldn't just put it there with me. For example, in the caretaker's private room or somewhere else..."

"Duke's... husband's territory..."

Opal, who was listening from Trevor in the study, thought a little into the words.

I thought it didn't matter anymore, but I still can't overlook the injustice like this.

Even if in a year's time you got separated and lost your relationship, it wouldn't be refreshing.

"Okay. Then do Trevor even more harsh favors, but could you follow me to the Duke's Lands? It's not convenient to be away from here after all?

"No. My management is perfect. Anyway, I'm developing people to get around without me. Just because I'm a little away doesn't mean anything. It's worse to stay awake and miss out on wrongdoing than that, so let me give you my word."

Opal laughed at Trevor's attitude, which he said deliberately and proudly.

I thought I'd forgotten how to laugh since I got married, but I've been laughing all the time since I got back to Count Territory.

"Thank you, Trevor. Well, I'll write to your husband and tell him we're going to Duke territory. Tell the Duke's Lands in advance."

"Right. If you're new here, you'll be more sure of that. To be honest, all of a sudden they'll be more alert too, but if it's just the lady, they won't be alert either... I'm a servant, please."

"Okay. Well, I'll let you know as soon as I have a date."

"Yes, sir."

Opal, who left the study, just wrote to Hubert.

Then, the next day, I received a reply, saying that I should like it.

"As expected, maybe a little less? How you doing, buddy? Or go with care,"

After complaining alone about the contents of his affection and nothing, Opal went to tell Trevor and Marcia that he was leaving five days later for the Duke's Land.

It was an extra few days for Hubert to tell the Duke about Opal.

Not to be alarmed, Hubert wrote to the consulate that he wanted to transfer the Count's own luggage.

The Duke's administrator is alert and has trouble hiding books and such, but most aristocratic women are probably fine because they are not interested in land management or anything else and it is common sense that the numbers are refreshing.

Opal also just realized it was odd because he was learning from Trevor to manage the land he left behind from his grandmother.

No matter what they asked me what was wrong, I'm pretty sure I couldn't answer it exactly.

Five days later, Opal was to take Trevor to his servant, Naja the maid, on a four-day journey from Count territory to Duke territory.

On the road the weather was blessed and Opal, who entered the Duke's territory without any particular problems, realized that the fields were less fruitful than those of the Count.

I also find the houses and attire of the inhabitants quite crude.

"Honestly, I don't think you're well managed."

"That's why you don't see any signs of disaster."

"As far as I'm concerned, it feels like it's gone, neither acceptable nor impossible. It resembles the atmosphere of the village where I used to live. The Earl Territory is very rich."

Looking out the window, Opal and Trevor were talking, and Naja snorted a little peek as well.

Naja was fired from her mansion a few years ago during a drought and relied on Marcia, a remote area.

For this reason it is so much more knowledgeable than Opal, which only knows the Earl Territory, which is just around the corner with the King's capital.

"Really?

"Well, that's right. My husband is tough on lazy people, but he rewards the diligent properly. In addition, please spare no effort to fund the development of your territory. If you need a bridge, give me a sturdy stone bridge, and if the farmers' tools are broken, give me something new. That's why the people are motivated."

"When I hear that, your father is a wonderful lord."

To Opal's words, Trevor smiled bitterly.

Naja never even met the Count, so she won't say anything.

"My husband is an insensitive man."

"Right. Leaving my scandalous daughter without getting married early for three years was not meant to set me free, it was just waiting for the Duke to go bankrupt. And you pushed your daughter along with the money on the best opponent, didn't you? To elevate your position to further heights."

"The lady is a nice person. The Duke is a reward."

"Thank you, Naja"

Just smiling and thanking Naja for her words, Opal did not touch on the status quo.

I still have no idea what attitude the consulates of the Duke's territory will take.

Opal glanced back out the window.

"Seems to pay the state well, and if this were normal, there wouldn't be dissatisfaction from the people, and I guess third parties wouldn't have noticed."

"It's a good way to do it. That's why nobody thought the Duke was in trouble."

"Your father had noticed."

"Ah, lady! You can see the mansion."

Naja raised a bright voice peeking into the small window opposite Opal, whether she was not interested in the conversation between the two or tried to change the atmosphere.

Opal also moves to the other side to peek through the window.

"That's a big mansion. And it looks like it's well maintained."

"That's right. If it were such a contradiction, you would have noticed if you had been returned to your territory once..."

Opal never answered Trevor's whining.

The main entrance to the mansion, which was getting closer and closer, was wide open, and many servants were seen coming out.

Opal stepped away from the window, stretching his spine and waiting for the carriage to stop.
