The Duchess of the Attic

17. Duke's residence

A few mornings later, Opal, who was returning to the Duke's mansion in Wangdu, went down to the ground floor, noticing the sound someone had been visiting.

Head straight to the study and knock on the door.

Who heard what to do, so I answered, and Romit the butler opened the door with a surprised look from inside.

"I need to ask your husband something. Could you let me in, please?

I had no choice but to do something like that, but Romit takes a step back and puts Opal inside.

Then Hubert, who was sitting in front of the study desk, also looked up at Opal in surprise.

"What can I do for you?

"... good morning, sir. Someone seemed to be visiting earlier, so if you have guests this afternoon, I wanted to know."

Hubert faintly blushed when he realized he didn't even say hello.

I guess I was ashamed to forget to be polite no matter how much I disliked them.

But I stifle my face at once at the question of Opal that followed.

"I shouldn't have to report my visitors to you anyway."

"But I'm still the mistress of this house. It's supposed to be my job to entertain customers, so if anyone's here, you should let me know, right?

"If it was a visitor to you, I would naturally tell you. But this time it's my guest. I don't need your hospitality."

"... what does anyone say?

Even though Hubert was cold, Opal still ate down.

Romit, who was watching how it went, finally leaves the study, hiding his joy in a faceless manner.

Hubert opened his mouth in frustration about whether he had lost his guts to Opal's perseverance.

"Earlier only came to deliver a letter from Omer"

"So you don't have visitors, do you?

"A man named Jonathan Kenzitt is going to bring paperwork with another man. But it's none of your business just because you need my signature!

"... that it really has nothing to do with me?

"Oh well. You said Omar was working wrongfully. But I trust him. That's the answer. So, will you leave now?

You thought you were getting too hot yourself, Hubert exhaled loudly, turning into a calm voice and answering to mock Opal's question.

Opal discourages discouragement and snorts calmly.

"Okay."

Opal left the study and returned to the attic, secretly praising himself, whose voice did not tremble.

Eventually in the afternoon, Opal did not leave the room, even when he found out that the visitors had come because he heard the carriage.

Just sit quietly and wait.

But without Opal being called, or the angry footsteps approaching the room, he heard the carriage again and learned that the visitors had returned.

I should have been ready, but tears flow down Opal's cheek.

but Opal quickly brutally wiped his cheeks wondering if this was something he would cry about.

The servants were pleased to hear from Beth that Opal went into bed that night without even having dinner.

With her husband finally out strong, the intruder understood his position in this mansion.

Hubert, on the other hand, was feeling uncomfortable.

Wasn't I being too rude this morning?

He said his attitude towards her was unfair in the first place.

Hubert was troubled while dining with Mrs. Northam, who seemed in a good mood for a long time.

And the next day.

Opal went out to his uncle's mansion with dignity as if nothing had happened.

Then to Opal, who receives the paperwork, my uncle speaks kindly.

That I don't have to force myself to continue my marriage.

But Opal smiled and shook his neck sideways.

"I'm not going to leave you like this because you got married because of something. I'm going to do what I have to do"

"Opal...... That foolish young man isn't worth it enough to make you that generous."

"But we can't abandon the people like this."

"Right...... You look a lot like your sister."

"I'm glad you said that."

When Opal answered with his face down, the air between them eased.

From there, I was told various memorabilia of my mother, and Opal followed my uncle's mansion with pleasure.

But Opal in the carriage gave his expression again, sending a signal to your Cave, informing him of a change of destination.

Cave takes it on quickly.

(I knew you weren't hostile to me at the Duke's mansion, about Cave...)

But that could change things in the future.

I was lonely to think so, but I'm going to spend most of my upcoming Opal in the consulate of the Duke's territory, so I won't be using the carriage this way either.

The consulate intended to prepare a new carriage dedicated to Opal.

And the intended Count Holloway mansion - when we arrived at Opal's parents' house, Opal received a great welcome.

He hasn't returned to the Count's mansion in the capital since he was married.

"I'm sorry for the sudden. Wouldn't you be surprised?

"It's a pleasant surprise"

"It stinks of water, ma'am. I can't believe you haven't shown your face since your marriage, even though you've returned to the Count's territory many times."

Surrounded by deacons and housekeepers, Opal burst into tears, but desperately contained and laughed.

In fact, I'm glad.

I just had all sorts of emotions swirling around and now I couldn't successfully convey my joy to everyone in the mansion.

My servant tried to pick up Opal's bag, but refused.

As it was, I changed my mind and asked the butler.

"Is your father still away?

"No, you are at home today. I am working in the study, but I have been told not to follow anyone for a while."

"Yes...... But fine. I'll tell him it's not your fault."

"Lady!?

Upon hearing that he was lucky enough to have a father, Opal headed to the study.

Deacon tried to pull back to surprise, but Opal just knocked lightly on the study door without stopping and went in without waiting for a response.

My father didn't look so surprised to hear the noise, and raised a single eyebrow to raise his face from the paperwork and ask.

"As you heard, I walked into this room shaking it off, so you don't have to blame anything but me"

"I know that. So, I guess you just have a reason to convince me, huh? I'm not gonna hear ridiculous complaints about my unbearable marriage."

"Unfortunately, I have no such thing as a married life. Just to let you know that your father would be interested in doing you a favor."

"Hmm?"

Opal didn't even greet his first reunion with his father in a long time.

But my father doesn't look like he cared either.

Everything remained the same as before, and Opal did not have to laugh forcibly, nor did he have to suppress his emotions towards his father.

Clerically informing him of the purpose of the visit, he takes the paperwork out of his bag and arranges it all over the paperwork of his father on his way to work.

"As your father used to say, here is evidence of the Duke's 'sweetness'. Evidence of fraud on the part of the land administrator of the Duke's territory - back book. Also a loan book of evidence that the administrator was into gambling."

"I know that. So, your husband finally realized that?

"Then why do they think these are here? The Duke didn't believe me when I complained about the caretaker's wrongdoing. I tried to get Trevor to be my witness, but the Duke apparently thought we were trying to take over Duke territory."

"- I see. Your husband wasn't 'sweet', he was' stupid '."

"Would you stop describing me as your husband? Your father chose it, didn't he? Because it's none of my business."

The Count was just as surprised by this word of Opal.

There have been many times before that I wish Opal had been my son.

My daughter looks like my only daughter at first glance, but she is inherently quite smart and has guts.

Instead of his oldest son fluttering in college, how did you think to let Opal inherit a trace - something other than the title?

For this reason, as a lady, she has also been made to wear an upbringing that is not necessary.

Even when Opal made his social debut, he didn't intend to let boring men as well as wealth-seeking men daughter-in-law.

That is no longer the position to choose by that scandal.

The Count was quite angry at Opal's indiscretion, but on the contrary thought of something interesting.

When Opal and the Duke first danced, the Earl, who was aware that they were attracted to each other, decided to let the Duke daughter-in-law Opal for a good reason.

If Opal marries the Duke's house, he'll soon notice the problem.

Opal is tough in character, but also thick in emotion.

At first we should rebel, and even if we had no choice, the Duke and I should try to rebuild our territory.

In time, something like love may also arise.

That's what I was thinking, but the Count's prospect seems to have come off.

The Duke was intrigued by what he had done, such as making Opal throw up cold words so far, but he didn't say it.

But at the end of the day, he dropped his gaze on the paperwork Opal had placed, and the Count opened his eyes.

"... are you sure this is it?

"I... stopped dreaming. No matter how long he waited, the prince on the white horse didn't come to help. So I decided to take the white horse and move myself."

"Don't you think the prince and the white horse were holding back?

"Yes?"

"No...... So, what's a favor?

"First, I want you to keep these documents in this safe."

"Hmm. That would certainly be a good idea. Let's take it. But there seems to be something else?

"Yes, the other one… If the Duke begs to teach, please accept it"

"... fine. It's suspicious if that foolish young man will come to me when he wakes up, but let's accept it when he does."

"Thank you. Well, thank you."

Opal laughed bitterly as he thanked him.

My father and uncle refer to Hubert as a foolish young man.

Unfortunately, after the Count's mansion, Opal returned to the Duke's mansion, wondering if he was right.
