The Emperor’s Angel of Death

Chapter 1129: Heart of Darkness (Part 1)

The excavation proceeded smoothly, and three hours later Inquisitor Lennart Meyers was ready to lead the team into the largest rift, while Melissa was left on top.

She observed two squads gathered on the edge of the pothole. These were battle-hardened mercenaries and stormtroopers, each of which could not be said to have the fighting power of Astartes, but could deal with most physical threats. .

They were hooked into the deep pit with a downhill cable, fully armed and ready to fight.

The Inquisition team quickly jumped into the pit, with Lennart Meyers as the commander, the last to enter the cave, and the others on guard at the entrance.

It was pitch black below, and Lennart Meyers began to jump off the stone wall.

Did the stone wall twitch beneath his boots? Did his heel sink in, as if stepping on flesh? Does it twist like a snake's nest?

No, none of this happened.

He wished he could be sure of that.

However, he was acutely aware of a primal disgust.

He dropped another dozen meters, jumped from the wall, and landed on the wide ledge, where two teams were waiting.

Below, the pothole is plunged into silent darkness, and a ledge in the wall is a protruding patio.

"All cheer up."

Lennart Meyers looked at the entrance.

"We all serve Him, and we must not fail."

Equally disturbing is the rest of the building's entrance façade, which Lennart Meyers doesn't know if he's facing a window or a doorway, which rises into a pointed arch, but with asymmetrical sides that curve and crisscross.

Looking straight at it, the entrance looks like a crack in the stone, and looking at it from the corner of the eye, it seems to be a natural crack.

The arch was narrow, slightly angled from the vertical, and it took the Inquisitor some time to scan the whole thing.

"This way is dead."

The arch is an asymptote where the two sides eventually meet, narrowing to a seam - it's just a con.

"That's impossible, my lord."

A certain technical priest entourage said affirmatively.

"That must be a rift."

"No."

Another took the same opinion as the Inquisitor, his bionic eye sweeping across the surface of the building without a humming sound.

The highly mechanized mercenary then adjusted the wavelength of the prosthetic eye to suit the low-light environment and enlarged his sight.

"I believe Lord Inquisitor is right, and the cracks have also become part of the decoration, extending upwards."

The Tech Priest also turned his artificial eyes to the arch and doubted:

"This building is divided into two floors?"

"Worse than that."

From left to right, Lennart Meyers points to the other openings, each with its own unique shape, as if it had been melted after completion, with arch-like gaps visible in the shadows.

The façade initially appeared to be seamless, but upon closer inspection revealed a web of tiny slits, vaguely guessing a three-dimensional parquet structure.

"How can this be?"

The Tech-Priest said again, only now that his denial was an expression of fear, and the craftsmanship of this kind of construction was amazing.

"It was originally built on a hillside and then supported by the sunken crust."

The sill is at its widest point in the center of the opening, and it is edged by a curved, tapered cylinder twice as tall as the Space Marines.

It looked like a giant tusk sticking out into the empty air of the pit, and the tech-priest took a few steps to examine it. His servo arm turned on the lights to illuminate the black stone, illuminating similar structures around it.

It looks like a spreading crack, but unless the aesthetic itself has strength, nothing will stop this thing from smashing into pieces.

"My lord, I can't think of any reasonable explanation for what we've seen."

"It's a warp effect."

A one-eyed old mercenary replied like this.

"It's no surprise that this area has been affected more severely."

Another mercenary expressed similar sentiments

"This existence is not a problem, it is a designed form of organization, some kind of warp force has shaped this shape... and whatever, as long as it appears in the physical universe, then he can destroyed."

On the other side, several stormtroopers had been jumping down, now back on the ledge, the flash of their helmets illuminating the darkness.

"How about it?"

Stormtroopers are actually Inquisitor Lennart Meyers' most trusted force. His attitude towards other mercenaries is the same as before, refusing to provide anything beyond basic etiquette, but he will give more respect to stormtroopers.

The leader of the Stormtrooper squad shook his head.

"My lord, as far as the entire rift is concerned, they have the same structure, but some structures are still buried and we don't have any more information."

"And no rift more important than anywhere else?"

"No, on the contrary..."

The Stormtrooper captain hesitated.

"Each opening is completely different from the others, but I'm impressed that they are replicated as well."

"copy?"

"I don't want to say that this building was created by copying."

"But that's what you just said."

"Like I said, I don't want to say that."

Lennart Meyers grunted.

"Let me see."

He walked towards the rift, the team following him.

Going through the rift was like going through a membrane, and Lennart Meyers entered a narrow tunnel, and the team entered a wide room.

From nothing, there seems to be only weak lighting in the interior, and the dark red liquid from blood fills the entire space, decorating the faint light outside.

The ceiling is a huge dome, and all the pillars are at a certain angle to the vertical. The wall is located 200 meters away, and after advancing 50 meters, it is still empty.

The rise of the back wall corresponds to the ascent of the plateau, and behind them, the rock walls are spread over rows of twisted arched entrances.

"Where's the bird divination instrument?"

"Nothing found~www.wuxiaspot.com~ The technical priest replied immediately.

"No energy source?"

"nor"

"Then is there anything you can tell me?"

"Er... my lord, even in this space, I can't come up with a general explanation, the readings are contradicting and constantly changing."

Lennart Meyers nodded.

"Some force shaped this place, and what he created is stable, so we're going to keep looking until we get to the root of it all."

They continued on their journey, and near the back wall, there was a ramp leading to the next level.

The **** is steep and people follow the ramp into a room that is the same as the one above, there is also a ramp here that takes them to another room, and there is also a ramp.
