The Greatest Gene

Chapter 35 - Nine Strike Spear Technique

Cain finished up a few more missions before heading back to the sect. Unfortunately his spear had been essentially destroyed over these last few battles. It was about time to get a new spear, and maybe learn some spear techniques to increase his strength. He had also found a glaring problem with his ability. Because he essentially teleports, his speed never picks up, making his attacks lose a lot of potential strength. The easiest way to fix this problem was to increase his strength itself, and the best way to do that was with martial skills.

He headed back to the sect and went directly to the martial building. He started browsing through the martial art books and found one technique that interested him. However this technique had a violet sticker on the front. This sticker meant that unless you had violet grade talent or above, you shouldn't bother trying to learn the technique since you won't be capable. Cain read through it an instantly noticed it was incomplete however.

"Excuse me elder, does the sect have the other parts of this technique?"

"Of course, the middle part is located in the inner sect, and the final part is located in the core sect. Nevertheless, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time on it, the only reason it's here is because the sect master had hopes that maybe one day a disciple would be capable of learning it. Yet it's never happened. "

"I would still like to try elder"

"Alright, but don't say I didn't warn you"

The technique Cain chose was called the 'Nine Strike Spear.' The name sounded pretty normal but the technique itself was extremely impressive. It is split into 9 levels, each level is a single strike, and each strike is twice as strong as the one behind it. This technique only went up to the first 3 strikes, but if Cain mastered it, that would be 8x as strong as his regular hit. He could already understand why this technique was never mastered in the past, if it was so easy to learn then everyone would be wielding immense power.

Cain went and bought a new spear right afterwards. He had used up all his contribution points by now making him broke once more. He realized doing missions took to long, he wanted to find a more efficient way to earn contribution points. After snooping around a little he learned about the inner sect challenges, it was a test of speed, strength, and defense. This challenge has been around since the start of the sect and recorded the best results. You can take the challenge once a year, and if you manage to set a new record, the reward is tremendous.

People rarely actually did it though, because the current records were considered unbreakable. It had been hundreds of years since they were set and not a single person has broken through one of them since. Cain had no confidence in regards to strength and defence, but if they were talking about speed, few would be his match.

He entered the record room and word soon travelled around the sect. Every time someone challenge the records the inner sect disciples would gather around and treat it as some sort of event. Some people would even start making gambles on whether the challenger would win or lose. Cain hadn't been around the sect for a long time, so when the other disciples realized he was attempting the challenge, they just thought he was another overconfident newbie.

"Who is this kid, I've never even seen him around before and he's attempting to break the speed record."

"Probably a new disciple who thought he was a genius since that was what he was told growing up. However now he will learn the hard truth, even geniuses are just regular people here"

"Hmph, over confident. There's no joy even betting on this type of person since there's no chance they will win. Had it been senior brother Petrus, it would have been interesting"

"Senior brother Petrus has no time for this, he's currently a tier 3 Genetic General and I hear he's trying to break through to Tier 4 so he can join the inner sect."

Cain could understand why the disciples would look down on him. He had only been in the sect for around 30 days, and 29 of those days were spent doing missions. However, it was about time to get his name out a little. He walked into the room, it was a massive field that reached 100,000 meters across. You just had to reach the end in the fastest time possible.

"Previous record setter: Nagal Craon, Time - 11.3 seconds"

"Are you ready competitor. Begin in 3, 2, 1, GO!"

The second the mechanical voice stopped talking Cain flashed across the field, each step would take him around 13,000 meters. The disciples watching him were shocked, before they even realized what was happening Cain had already reached the end of the field.

"Congratulations, you have set a new record of 7.6 seconds"

"Your reward is 50,000 contribution points"

He had only earned around 1000 contribution points after his month of finishing missions. Now that he had this 50,000 he could really start abusing the resources the sect had to offer. He left the record room under the eyes of the surprised disciples

"Looks like there's a true genius who just joined our sect"

"Yep, seems like senior brother Lambard might have his position as 10th ranked outer sect disciple taken from him soon"
