The Hero's Lover

Chapter 4 - Preparing for Dinner

The frigid weather curbed my d.e.s.i.r.e to go outside. The lack of friends gave me no motivation to leave the house. My dad left me to do my own thing most days. Two weeks flew by like time was just an arbitrary construct.

The kitchen was a mess. I stared at the vast pile of dishes festering in the sink, the rotten flowers on the island, and an overflowing trash can. The stench could be smelled from my room. I rolled the sleeves of my white long-sleeved shirt.

After clearing away the trash and melting flowers, I piled the dishes beside the sink, filled up the sink with soapy water, and got to work. After washing almost all of the dishes, I picked up a large pot, and it slipped into the sink.

'Ekkk!' The water splashed over the edge of the sink and covered me with water. My shirt clung to whatever skin the it could revealing my figure.

Ring, ring, ring. The number on my cell phone looked unfamiliar. The call ended before I could answer it, but the number rang my phone again. Ignoring it, I started to clean the water that had splashed off the floor. My cell phone rang again with my dad's name as the person calling. I swipped to answer my phone.

I set it in speaker mode to continue doing dishes. "Hello, dad. Aren't you at work?"

"I am. Hana, someone's going to be coming over soon. They said they would call when they are at the door. Would you mind letting them in and keep them company until I return?"

I heard a knock at the door. "Hello, hello. Anyone home? Your neighbor let me into the building."

"They're here, dad. I'll show them in." Without waiting for a reply, I ended the call.

I raced to the door, and flung it open. Without looking, I said, "Hi, you must be who my dad just mentioned. Please come in."

Standing to the side of the door, a beautiful women about my dad's age, and a guy about mine stood at the door. This woman could honestly be an international supermodel if she wanted to be. She had black hair and stunning facial features. Her bright red dress clung to every curve on her body. It was very easy to stare at her rudely if one wasn't careful. The other hand, the guy was really handsome. A lighter shade of black hair with very fair skin. His well tailored black suit made him look like a businessman. No one could fit a suit better than he. When he walked through the door, he coughed a little looked down at my shirt and then away from me. He chuckled at my widen eyes. My arms slid up to cover my c.h.e.s.t as I led them to the living room.

"Please, excuse me while I change into something more appropriate." I rushed upstairs and tore off my clothes when I heard a knock on my door before it open. The woman from downstairs barged through the door. I scrambled to cover myself with a blanket.

"Darling, you aren't showing me something I haven't seen on myself." She walked over to my closet, and shifted through my dresses. She pulled out a royal dress that I had never seen before.

"Change into this, Hana. We don't have much time to make you presentable." She held it out to me. "Come on."

The dress was so beautiful. I stared at the halter top was embroidered with red swills like a tail sweeping the air. A fierce, yet gentle looking dragon covered the length of the dress. One could tell the dragon was a masterpiece of the utmost perfection. The reds, golds, and deep blue seamlessly flowed together while giving the person who wore the dress an alluring figure.

Sighing, she turned me around and yanked the rest of what little covering I had off of me, and helped me put on the masterpiece of a dress.

"Sit." She pointed to my vanity chair as she opened a square-shaped make-up bag. I compiled as she took several things out of her bag and compared them to my face. After determining 'my color' (?), she applied a lot more make-up on my face in a hurry that I could not repeat what she did for the life of me, but whatever she did, I was amazed by the results. My dark brown hair flowed around my face. Blue and red eyeshadow accented my face that made the dress look like it was meant for me. As I stared, she lightly brushed and tossed my hair.

"Perfect. Now we can go out to eat for a casual dinner."

I turned to stare at her with wide eyes and my mouth partially open.

"Don't look at me like that. A lady should never act without elegance. Something your mother should have taught you, but I suppose she wouldn't have known anything about it. No matter, your aunt will teach you these things now. My little brother should be back by now." She left the room as quickly as she had arrived. I looked at my bedside clock, and only 15 minutes had passed since they arrived. I blinked a few times, since when did I have an aunt? Then, who is that in the living room? My cousin? I proceeded down to the living room barefoot.

The first person who I noticed while coming downstairs was my father. He was stating with his mouth wide open.

"Sis, what did you do to her?" He looked at my aunt who shrugged.

We're going to dinner, are we not? We must look presentable. Besides, the poor thing was clearly neglected about the intricacies of being a woman. She is our family's heir, or did you not tell her?"

My father looked away from her. "I would have told her eventually."

"Silly men; you should have taught her as she was growing up. It takes time to perfect everything. You know that."

"But, my wife..."

"Your wife was a no-name commoner who stayed at home to be a good little housewife. The only time she did anything good was produce a child of yours. She never knew anything about our lifestyle nor how to act in it. Hence, Hana is now in this situation where she knowa nothing!"

My father wiped his brow and looked at his wristwatch. "Can't we discuss this later?"
