Dude, really, the 'break' of Her Holiness sure became one heck of a roller coaster ride.

"…"

I mean, just take a look at the events that happened. I am not sure how am I able to go through all of that. I guess I have a certain amount of mental fortitude within me…

Well, I won't be a teacher if I don't possess such skill.

Ah anyway…

"…"

The engagement party almost became a disaster. However, instead, it became a weird festival where the commoners and nobility took the time to socialize with one another. I guess, the obstinate Duke of Rubinforth really had a change of heart. He was allowing the commoner masses to come by to his manor just like how it's been during the time of his late wife.

For the duration of her stay in Fen, the Saint was visited by several esteemed people in the land of Chersea and beyond. They went on to note how she became even more beautiful with her transformation, and she was now happier than she was before.

"…"

As for that demon merchant, Devras? After that incident where I got 'killed', I haven't had contact with him again. He pretty much disappeared, perhaps he made a lot of money after I won that second round battle with the Grey Knight.

And speaking of the guy who slit my throat, though he was arrested and was placed on watch, he was found dead one day in his cell. I guess, we'll never know the truth in who ordered my murder. But as long as I'm alive, I think I'll be fine. Maybe I should keep away from the Kingdom of Nerfes for the time being, just to be safe.

Griffyth and the Band of Oak members became a hot item after the match. They became the most sought-after mercenary group in Chersea and beyond. The same goes for Winters and his Band of Brothers mercenary company. Well, for Kevin and Stephan's Golden Territory Warriors? Hmm…I don't' know, they stayed around as an amateur hired-hand group, even with all the offers and praises they received after the tourney.

For the Imperial Prince, after the incident, they were forced to depart back to their own territory in utter haste. Truth be told, most kingdoms in the north of Chersea have little to no love for the Empire since the last Human-Demon War, and with the Imperial Prince insulting the Saint in the most vicious manner, I don't think that really mend the precarious relations…

"…"

"Oh, it's you, Mister Kuro!" the Duke greeted me the moment I appeared in his private study room. He had called for me for unknown reasons, and because of past encounters with him, I'm on my guard.

"Ah, how are you, Your Excellency?"

"Well, I'm pretty much fine…though I can feel the age in my bones."

"Hmm…honestly, I do think you'll live long." Well, I'm not giving him the lip-service. I do think he'll live long…I mean, if I would reckon his age, I'd say he'd be an a.d.u.l.t with around 48-52 years of life.

"Ah, thanks for that. I really wanted to see my grandchildren before I go to Annie's side…"

"Oh, you will, Your Excellency. Just stay positive."

"Ah yes, I'm positive." The Duke folded the newspaper he's reading. "By the way, what do you think about Maddie?"

Ahh…this question. Heh, I've read a lot of romance novels and watched romantic movies enough to give me an idea that this could be a trap question. You see, if I try to answer let's say 'Your daughter is a good woman, or a beautiful lady', he might interpret it as a sign that I'm gunning for his child.

"…"

For now, let's try the safe route. "Well, Her Holiness is a kind lady to everyone who needs help. I think this land would benefit from her reign as the human Saint."

"Pah! That's not what I mean, you daft boy!" the Duke slammed the newspaper on his desk, "I'm asking you as a man who asks a fellow man. What do you think about Maddie, personally?"

Well, shit. He didn't take my diversionary tactic. I guess I got no choice but to tell him the truth…

"Ahem…Sir, with all due respect…" I tried my best to appear as discreet as possible, "Your daughter is a wonderful lady. She has her quirks and faults in her character, but you know—despite all that, over-all she's a great, beautiful soul. I like her best when she's relying on me, since I feel like I'm being of use to a good person like her."

"That's very nice…"

"Yes, and that's my honest thoughts about Her Holiness."

"Great. Spoken like a true boy in love!"

"Wait—uh, Sir, I think you're misunderstanding something."

"Maddie, did you hear that just now?"

Much to my horror and embarrassment, the door that leads to the terrace of the Duke's private study room opened. The Saint stood there, all beautiful in her teal dress and her lovely face was terribly blushing.

"I told you your Mom's way to make someone confess is really effective." The Duke laughed, "She ensnared me that way, and we loved each other ever since."

"Uh, Your Holiness, I…I, uh…"

"M-m-m-mister K-Kuro…I understand…d-don't worry."

Well…ahem…as long as there's no further misunderstanding, I guess it's fine.

"I like you too, you know."

I think my heart stopped beating for a moment. It's the first time—THE REALLY EVER FIRST EVER TIME—that a beautiful girl confessed to me. In fact, I'm so happy I could cry now…

But wait—isn't this…

"Just tell me when you're going to get engaged, and I'll do the preparations. Invite everyone we could invite, even from the other races."

"Uhm…Your Excellency, aren't I a commoner?"

"Hmph! You know, you made me realize something. Noble or commoner, what matters is the character, not the background or pedigree." The Duke grinned, "I still couldn't forget how you defended the honor of my daughter from that obnoxious Imperial trash, even though you're a mere commoner. As a parent who loves his children, how can I not be moved by that? My house will be secured if you add in to our family!"

Uhm…isn't this too fast Your Holiness?

"Well, what can I say? I resemble my mother…she's also a fast-hunter of my father."

Good lord, I shouldn't underestimate the power of genetics!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

"CONGRATULATIONS BROTHER-IN-LAW!"

What the f.u.c.k, this is going out of rational proportions!

The next thing that happened, is that when we went outside the Duke's private study, Her Holiness' siblings had come to us all excited. They were wearing celebratory hats on their hats, and their guards even cast some magic that caused tiny confetti to appear.

"From now on, you're not allowed to call us that way, you understand?" Sophia demanded. "You shall call me by my name, Sophia, big brother!"

"And of course, I'm William, big bro!"

What?!

Well, it's not that I'm pissed or something, but it's been awkward for me, since I'm used to calling them the 'formal' way before…

"It seems my siblings finally opened up to you, Kuro." Her Holiness commented, "See? They really like you!"

"Haha…they're cute kids…" Yeah, so cute you'd die from stress…

The Saint chuckled, "Oh, and I know I've told you about this before, but Kuro…"

"Yes, Your Holiness?"

"Please refrain from calling me that. From now on, I'm Maddie."

I saw the Saint pout her lips; good lord, she's way too cute!

"M-M-Maddie…"

"Right!" Maddie smiled ever so sweetly, "I understand that it will take a while, but I know you'll get used to it."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

And so, the time came for Maddie's 'vacation' to be over, and we had to make our way back to the Holy Palatial Gardens. After from being absent for quite a while, it's been the first time I saw Marquise Monfort's face once again.

"Oho! Look at the lucky boy!" the Marquise greeted me the moment she saw me. "You're a hot topic back in the capital, you know."

"About the tourney?"

"Yeah, about that and how you thrashed that asshole prince's face in front of his father. For us Cherseans, it's the ultimate form of insult."

"Oh great. Now I've got to worry about an Imperial enemy…"

"Ah don't worry about it. The current emperor knows his son's mistake, and of course, he'll be wary to ask for revenge if the entire continent is behind you."

"Ha? I don't get it?"

"Man, it seems like you're really not updated with the news." The Marquise grabbed me from the back of my neck and hugged me tight, "Your name has become a household word that meant 'resistance to the Empire'. Children sing songs about you, perpetrated by some minstrels who witnessed what you did in the tourney."

"You guys really hate the Empire that much?"

"They're a bunch of arrogant oafs, see?" the Marquise then pulled something out from her bag, "Hey take a look at this bottle of rum."

"Err…that's…hey, what the heck!? It says 'Fist of the North Lands Kuro'!"

"That's your brand, boy. You got your own rum to your name!"

I don't know if I should be happy or not with that. I mean, they just used my name without permission! Don't they know about trademarks and copyrights? Besides, they also branded me like I'm something of a rip-off from that muscle anime back on Earth…

"…"

Well, I guess this land hasn't had any idea about it just yet. Maybe some time later, I'll tell Maddie about it.

"Hey, what's up, Your Highness Lily!?!" the Marquise greeted the Nerfes royal princess when she appeared on her old maid clothes.

Lily smiled at her and waved at me. Of course, I waved back out of courtesy. And then she went on her way.

"…"

"Hmm…looks like the royal princess has something going on her head." Marquise Monfort commented. "Did anything happen while I was gone?"

"Well, I'm not so sure…" then I told Monfort of how I ended up being almost-engaged with Her Holi—I mean, Maddie. She seemed to not believe it at first, but in the end, she managed to accept the fact that it was true.

"Well, you could say that she's jealous, but I've never seen her act like that." The Marquise suggested. "If I know, she's even fine being your mistress, so what's the point of being jealous now?"

"Wait, you did have that kind of talk?"

"Yeah, girl stuff, you know."

"I think you shouldn't just drop that information on me so casually."

"Oh, come on! You're being way too much of a prude. Why don't we check her out for a while? I guess it wouldn't hurt to do that, since we're her friends, right?"

"Of course. I'll also tell Maddie about her. She's her closest friend, remember? She might be able to help her as well!"

"Ayt, let's do that then." The Marquise agreed to my proposal and we both went our separate ways.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Before the Human Saint and her group went back to the Holy Palatial Gardens, the Beastman Saint made sure to check on some things with the help of Maddie's paladin, the Marquise Monfort.

"…"

And now, she has returned from the mission Her Fluffy Holiness had entrusted her to do.

"Greetings, Beastman Saint! I have completed your orders, just as you would have want me to do."

"Thank you, Lady Monfort!" Ruro asked the paladin to take a seat while she rummage through the papers that she had given her.

"…"

"So, what do you think about those incidents?"

"You mean?"

"Yes, I'm talking about the bandit attack on our way here. And that assassin who killed my master, Kuro. Are they somehow related?"

The Marquise Monfort, in contrast to her usual cheerful personality, was serious all this time. She took a deep breath and told the Beastman Saint everything that she knew…

"Yes, those two incidents are related, just as you suspect, Your Holiness."

"I see…"

"Kuro's assassination is a work of someone who'd benefit the most from his death. At the same time, that bandit incident before is related in such a way that it would also benefit the one who takes control of the Human Saint."

"Meaning?"

"The Empire surely has a hand on this. If Kuro dies, then the Prince would end up marrying the Human Saint, effectively controlling her. That one almost happened. And the bandit incident is also their work in their attempt to capture Her Holiness."

"So they're on the move again, huh?"

"Well, I guess it's not because they're really interested on the Human Saint." Marquise Monfort replied, "But rather, those people from the Empire who tried to capture our Saint clearly wanted something more than just controlling her; I think they haven't given up their ambitions to dominate the entire land of Chersea…"

"By going to war, right?"

"Yes, Your Holiness…our Saint is a hindrance to their plans. She was using her 'god powers' to bring the human nations in-line with her pacifist policies, and the Empire wouldn't risk of being excommunicated—or their subjects might rebel."

"I see…good work, Lady Monfort." The Beastman Saint then continued, "Maddie's a bit of a soft-heart when it comes to these things, that's why you guys need to secretly prepare for conflict. It's almost coming upon your world…"

"Thank you for your guidance, Great White Wolf."

"As always, I'm just doing my promise to that idiot, Jimmy Nee…"

And, without further ado, the Marquise Monfort let herself out of the room where she met with the Beastman Saint, leaving the latter alone.

"…"

Ruro knew that this brewing conflict was about to erupt soon. However, before it becomes a full-blown war, she has to make a pre-emptive move on her own against the one who controls the Empire from the dark…

She already has an idea on the identity of that person…

"Seirna…"
