The Hunter Academy

Chapter 15 - First practice class (1)

"Now I'll be calling according to list order"

"The person I call will take a sword and enter the battlefield with me."

"Amy Abram." Atalanta called the name of the first student on the list.

An American girl got up from her seat. She picked up a short sword from the ground and followed Atalanta.

"All right, stay there and wait for my signal" Atalanta pointed to a place about 30 meters away from the void box.

Amy nodded nervously, she stood at the designated spot with the sword in her hand.

Atalanta took the void box and explained carefully.

"Don't underestimate toothed hares just because they're the weakest Level 1 monsters. You have to be careful with their two tusks, each 15 cm long and as sharp as daggers."

Although Atalanta and the other students were separated by a wall, Atalanta's voice reached their ears as well. She was using her power as Hunter to amplify her voice.

Atalanta then looked at the student who was standing nervously looking at her. She smiled gently and stopped amplifying her voice.

"Is this the first time you've fought a monster?"

Amy nodded nervously.

"Don't worry, you just have to follow your instincts. Remember, I'm here in case something happens"

Amy was still nervous, but with Atalanta's words she felt a little more confident.

Atalanta nodded with satisfaction that the girl had calmed down a bit. She then opened the vacuum box and pulled out a toothy hare.

Atalanta grabbed the toothed hare by the neck easily and showed it to Amy. The hare was feeling the terrible energy emanating from Atalanta's body so the hare didn´t dared to make any movement.

"This is a toothy hare. I remind you that its strong points are its great speed and its fangs" Atalanta pointed out the two great fangs that came out of the mouth of the hare.

"It weak points... It whole body is it weak point, this is what makes the toothy hare the weakest monster. As long as you can cut the hare, it will go into shock for 5 seconds and then you can finish it off".

"Are you ready?" She asked Amy.

Amy was frightened to see the ugly appearance of the hare, those fangs were especially scary for a girl like her who hadn't seen a monster so close since the great catastrophe occurred.

Amy nodded despite being so scared, she knew this was just the beginning and in the future she had to face much more powerful monsters. She could not cower at the starting line when her parents had tried so hard to offer her this opportunity.

Atalanta dropped the hare. The hare quickly ran away from Atalanta, once the hare felt safe it looked at Amy. The hare felt that she was not as dangerous as Atalanta and marked her as a prey.

The hare ran towards Amy. The girl was frightened to see how fast the hare was and she forced herself to react and rolled on the ground, barely dodging the hare's attack.

Amy got up quickly and looked at the hare, it was confused to see that its prey was still standing undamaged. The hare did not seem to understand why its attack had failed.

The hare attacked again. This time Amy was more prepared and dodged as she lightly cut the hare's skin. The hare then became paralyzed and Amy ran to end her life.

Amy felt the hare's energy enter her body. She was surprised to see that the energy she was absorbing was extremely refined and much greater than that obtained from eating the monster's flesh.

"Surprised?" Atalanta appeared by her side.

"Yes, after killing the hare I received a lot of pure energy and it helped me break through the middle class wall that I had been carrying for two years and I went up to the top class of level 1!" She was obviously excited.

Atalanta had amplified both her and Amy's voice, so all the students had heard Amy upgrade a sublevel after killing a single hare.

"When you kill a monster you receive 100% of its monstrous energy while when you eat its flesh you are barely receiving 10% of its energy. This is much more obvious when you go up to higher levels," Atalanta explained calmly.

"As for the test," Atalanta returned to the main issue.

Amy became nervous, she believed she had done well in the initial test.

"Not bad, you knew how to react quickly and you didn't hesitate when you had to execute the hare" Atalanta gave her the go-ahead.

"Thank you very much" Amy leaned over and clenched her fist tightly, obviously with joy.

Amy returned to the side room. Most of the students congratulated her on a job well done. She looked in the direction of Setanta and Sahazel.

Setanta gave her a thumb up and Sahazel... he was sleeping. Amy blushed and looked away when she received the thumb above Setanta.

"It seems you have an admirer" Fleur told Setanta.

"The strange thing is that I only have one. Haven't you seen this beautiful face?" Setanta smiled proudly.

"Shut up, dog. Can't you see I'm sleeping?" Sahazel sounded annoyed.

"Before he was so attentive to class and even answered the teacher's question correctly and now he's sleeping, I can't believe it" Fleur looked at Sahazel stunned.

"Get used to it" Setanta shrugged.

Atalanta continued to call students. Everyone managed to pass the test with more or less difficulty, even Austin had done quite well. Many were in a bottleneck and had managed to break througth thanks to the test so they were quite happy.

"Ryan Desul"

It was Ryan's turn to go out and do the test. He came out arrogant, he had seen how all the commoners had been able to pass the test so he was more than confident in passing it for himself.

He grabbed the sword with confidence.

"Is this your first time fighting a monster?" Atalanta asked him the same question as the rest.

"Yes, but I don't think I have a problem defeating the hare" He replied arrogantly.

Atalanta's eyebrows twitched slightly. She said nothing more and released the hare. Ryan was already prepared for this moment and knew it was very fast, but he was still frightened when he saw it running toward him.

He threw himself aside as he could. He got up with difficulty and stopped to face the hare when he realized he didn't have the sword. Apparently he had released it when he had thrown himself to the ground, he was stunned not knowing what to do and failed to notice that the hare had already jumped towards him.

Shu!

An arrow pierced the hare's head, killing it in the act.

"Are you all right?" Atalanta asked Ryan, worried.

"Y-Yes, thank you" Ryan thanked her unconsciously.

"That was close, if I wasn't here you'd already died," Atalanta reminded Ryan.

"Sigh, you can go back." She saw Ryan's pale face and decided not to scold him right now.

Ryan nodded as he continued to unconsciously thank her. He entered the side room and didn't worry about the looks of the rest and sat tired in his seat.

The rest of the students did not look at him with disdainful faces, but were pale with fear. They just remembered that monsters were not children's games!

It was like a jug of cold water after igniting the flames in the hearts of the students as they went up in level.

Atalanta called the next student. He entered nervously but was able to pass the test after a few small problems.

"Setanta Lugh"

Setanta picked up a sword and left the room.

Atalanta looked at the student in front of her. He was Setanta Lugh and was one of the few students who had caught her attention, she was curious to see his performance on the test.

"Have you fought a monster before?" she asked out of habit.

"Yes"

Setanta's answer surprised her, this was the first student who had fought a monster before.

"Then I guess I don't have to remind you of its dangers."

"It' s all ok" Setanta shrugged.

Atalanta did not delay and let the hare fall. Unlike the rest of the students, when the hare threw himself at them directly, this time the hare seemed to hesitate between attacking Setanta and Atalanta.

The hare finally decided to attack Setanta. He grabbed strength in his legs and threw himself towards his prey.

Plack!

All the students looked at the scene stunned. The sword nailed to the ground pierced the hare in half, the sword had been used as a spear!

Everyone had seen Setanta turn his body just as he was attacked by the hare and just as the hare passed his side he nailed the sword through his c.h.e.s.t and buried it in the ground.

"I really prefer spears, the sword is uncomfortable" Setanta complained of the low.
