The King Meets His Avatar

Ye Qiu couldn't sleep that night even after he had smoked a packet of cigarettes. He looked at the wall clock in his room and it showed 2:56am. It was already very late. He had played Glory with Su Mu Cheng the whole day as there was a special event that day. The game company had released a surprise boss to mark their 10th Anniversary and Ye Qiu had taken down the boss together with Su Mu Cheng. They were after all the best duo in the Excellent Era team.

The boss had dropped some curious items. There were two rare purple weapons, some materials and crystals. But one item was strange. It was a pill. It had no name. The system came up with a question mark (?) when Ye Qiu clicked on the information icon. MuCheng was not interested in the pill so Ye Qiu kept it with him.

And now that he couldn't sleep, he decided to open his computer and check out that strange pill.

He put his headphones on and started his computer, opened the game and logged into his One Autumn Leaf account.

He clicked on his inventory, and the pill was still there.

It was golden in colour but when the image was enlarged he could see some purple mist around the pill. And the information still indicated (?).

There was no icon for "synthesis", "forge" or even "sell". It only came with one icon. And that was "USE".

He was curious about the pill but was not so crazy enough to use it. He had many guesses about the pill but he was sure that the game company would give something that would be detrimental to his avatar. His avatar was already OP. He knew it.

He had seen everything in Glory. But this pill was something which he had never come across or had seen it before. And with a rush of impulse, he clicked "USE".

And that's when he passed out.

The next morning, he groggily opened his eyes. His back ached from his odd sleeping posture. He remembered he had fallen asleep while playing Glory. And for some reason his room seemed very bright. He didn't remember that his room had many windows. Wait. He touched something wet. He managed to look at where his hand was. It was green and sparkling? It's grass??? Who put grass in his room?! And something seems to be poking his a.s.s. He looked again, and it turned out to be an exposed tree root. He suddenly looked around him.

He was sleeping under a tree on the grass. Wearing leather and crude material clothes. He vaguely remembered having seen it once. But he couldn't point out where and what it was.

He stood up and checked his surroundings. He was outside a village. And there seemed to be people moving around.

He was sure he was being pranked on by his team mates. He was sure they had taken him out of the city to some country side to freak him out.

And he did freak out when something in his mind said,

" Congratulations! You have successfully used the Yin-Yang Pill! Welcome to Glory, player LordGrain. You are in the Beginner's Village. Please visit your nearest NPC for your first mission"

And he freaked out because these words came out right in front of him as if there was a display page in front of his eyes. And it was still there in front of him. And he did not fail to see that the dialogue came from "THE SYSTEM".

And immediately after the system's message, a blue arrow appeared out of nowhere and pointed towards a young girl who was 50 metres away from him. She seemed to be picking apples from a tree.

Then another messaged popped up.

THE SYSTEM: Abigail, a child NPC has your first mission. Please collect you first mission, player LordGrain.

Ye Qiu stumbled towards the child NPC thinking he was dreaming. Because he believed that whatever he was seeing couldn't be reality. Yes, he was dreaming. He was convinced of it!

When he reached the child NPC, she said

"Hello, LordGrain, welcome to the Beginner's Village. Your first mission is to reach level 50 in one day. Failure will result in locking of your level. You will not be able to cross beyond level 1 forever," she said cheerfully.

The only thing he heard from what she said was that he was Level 1. No wonder what he was wearing looked so vaguely familiar! It was a beginner's outfit in Glory.

Shit! He was LEVEL ONE!!!!

He quickly checked his body and sure, he did not even have a weapon on him. Which means he was truly a Level 1 player in Glory. He had to use his fist for his first mission? This was not a dream but a nightmare!!
