The King's System

Chapter 49 - Trap

[Arin POV]

Right now, the only thing I can do is wait anxiously for Daniel's return. Even though I know he's alright since Arthur and Gilgamesh are still here, I still can't help but worry for him.

Back in Border Town, there was no-one stronger than my party, apart from Khardin. If anything happened to Daniel, there was still a chance to rescue him.

However, out here, there were people with insane levels. The aura that they can release is so pressuring that I wonder how Daniel can even deal with them so calmly.

Take Cairne for example. When we first met at the inn, he was releasing a lot of pressure. So much so that I felt that I couldn't even breathe properly.

However, after Daniel intercepted it, it was like an entire mountain had been lifted off my back.

Yet he didn't even flinch at all. It was like he wasn't affected by it in the first place!

So either Daniel is insanely strong and we don't know about it, or he has a special way of dealing with it.

In both cases, he should be relatively safe. However, he's currently attacking the beast wave in their home territory!

I'd do what I can to help if I could go with him, but all he did was hug then kiss me. It's no fair if he does that.

Argh! I can't wait anymore. I'm going out there to look for him!

[Catherine POV]

Oh nyo! Arinnya suddenly got up and left. Arthur and Gilgamesh are chasing after her. I've been forced to come along too!

I don't want to go against Daniel. He was the one who saved me from the life of boredom running an inn, and given me so many new experiences.

He even forged a new sword just for me!

But it's not like I'm not worried about him. It's just that I trust him. I think that's what I should be doing. But Arinnya is having other thoughts!

Maybe she doesn't trust Daniel? Then would that make my love for him deeper? Nya!

Finally, I've caught up with Arinnya. Actually, she's just stopped. Did she find something?

*shiver*

I can feel it now. I know why she stopped. This aura! Tremendous! Domineering! I'm scared, nya!

Daniel! Help us nya!

---

[Daniel POV]

These foolish women. I told them to stay in the town, so why did they come chasing after me?

Also, what good are Arthur and Gilgamesh if they can't stop them?

I was going to lose the Drake by switching places with a King's Guard, but now that these four are here, that plan has fallen through.

Not only that Catherine and Arin are frozen on the spot! They aren't moving at all!

"Oi, you two! Come on, let's go! We need to run!!" (Daniel)

Only now have they woken up from their stupor. Why did they get that in the first place?

"Daniel, nya!" (Catherine)

Catherine tries to dive hug me, but I have no time for that. Instructing Arthur to pick her up and place her over his shoulder, I continue running.

Great! Now it's Arin's turn. She's trying to run towards me, even though the Drake is behind me!

Same as with Catherine, I tell Gilgamesh to pick her up. Now, all we need to do is outrun the Drake.

We can't return to Hull, because there is no way they can defend against a Drake in their current state.

The only thing we can do is lead it away, deeper into the forest.

Once it gets separated, there might even be a chance that I can kill it.

"ROOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!" (Drake)

That's extremely loud. No doubt it's going to attract the attention of the beasts in the area. Since it's so strong, there's a high chance that those beasts will obey it and start attacking us.

Damn! I have no time for their pesky attacks.

I summon 50 normal King's Guards and tell them to hold the beasts off. They are about to sacrifice their own 'lives' so that we can run away. At the same time, I can use Corpse Explosion on them.

A win-win for me, but a lose-lose for my skeletons.

The five of us run away while the Drake is busy with my skeletons.

Very soon, I can hear the echo of a loud boom. So they've finally died. How long will it take for the Drake to get here then?

I still need some time to set up some traps.

I get the other four to help me as well. We dug a trench, perpendicular to the direction that the Drake will head in.

After that, I took out 1000 King's Guards and placed them inside.

I know it's a waste, but there's nothing else I can do right now. This Drake is just too strong.

---

The Drake is finally here. Its massive body uprooted many trees and announced its presence.

The five of us in its path held our breaths. Though doing so wasn't going to do anything, it was more of a subconscious reaction.

*BOOOOOOOOOOM*

The Skeletons blew up a tad early. The Drake's foot stepped onto one, which caused a chain reaction and all 1000 King's Guards blew up. I didn't take their armor off, because I was hoping to use that as shrapnel.

Luckily, the Drake's legs are now badly mauled. We all draw our weapons. Arin draws her bow, Gilgamesh readies his spear, and Catherine, Arthur and I draw our swords.

All at once, we charge at the heavily wounded Drake.

Arin is firing her arrows into its eye region, Gilgamesh is poking its wounds on its legs, Catherine is working together with Arthur to distract the Drake's arms and I will land the finishing blow.

I've found myself jumping up to kill a lot of beasts recently. Even back in Border Town, the Tigers and Lions were so much bigger than me. Is there going to be any beast or monster in the future that I can kill that's at around the same height as me?

Anyway, jumping onto the Drake's head, I perform my signature move of stabbing its brain. However, this time it doesn't work. The Drake's scales are too much for my sword which is made of Noxia to break through, and it manages to fling me off.

With no time to spare, I quickly climb back up and fling myself at it again.

Striking at the same spot again, I can feel that it's getting damaged.

After about another 20 attempts and many injuries, I finally managed to pierce its scales.

Now came the hard part. Literally. His skull! Thankfully, I have Bone Control. Activating Mana Merge, I put as much mana as I possibly can into the skill.

Struggling to keep upright on its head, I manage to create a little slit in its skull after five minutes.

Finally! I stab Dragonsbane into the slit, and the Drake is at last, dead.
