The Legendary Map - Maker

Chapter 4 - Little Commander Competition

However, after meditating for a long time, he did not feel anything different. At first, the air around him just got a little colder, but then the sensation passed and everything went back normal.

Therefore, it was past midnight and he was considering going to sleep since next day school would be his new home and he probably would not have a proper night of sleep there.

After waiting more twenty minutes, Merlin was finally bored with the strange mantra, that was in a stranger language, with only the pronounce traduced to English.

Opening his eyes, he suddenly shot a profound gaze to the nocturne sky, filled with bright stars. Then, upon seeing the known stars to him, he could literally see a faint bright smoke descending from the skies, only visible to him.

The strange energy slowly got in contact with his c.h.e.s.t and forehead, then spreading through his whole body. Merlin felt a smooth and cool flow through his blood vessels, as if the strange smoke, named Qi by the cultivating methods, transformed and occupied his body.

After some time, such Qi came in contact with the little lion head on his c.h.e.s.t. The peculiar mark just gave a little flash before accepting the new source of power.

This was a birth mark Merlin had. His father said it was a special symbol of his mother's family lineage. He just said it would protect him in the dangerous moments and that he would some day become a great warrior or some like that.

Merlin did not take it seriously since his father never spoke about his mother's origins, only saying that one day he would find the right answers.

Focusing once more in cultivation, Merlin did his best to complete lots of Qi cycles through his body and blood. The bright energy, just like the stars, passed through all his organs, but Merlin did not notice any transformations for the moment.

The first part of the book said that one had to work hard to form their first inner star. That was a point located in one's heart, and was the place where all the astral Qi would acc.u.mulate in the near future.

Only by completing this first part would someone be capable of using the most simple skins of the cultivation method. The scriptures said that an average person would take 3 days to a week to complete the Star forming process.

However, Merlin seemed to have an outstanding cultivation talent for this Manual, since in one full night, he already formed a complete and robust inner star. Is was like a bright little point inside his heart, assembling a real star, his bright Qi surrounding it.

With a simple thought, Merlin could direct the Qi from there to anywhere in his body. Now it was a matter of time until he could start to conjure some simple Qi magic.

Early in the morning, Merlin suddenly woke up from his mediation session. Although he did not sleep, meditation also help to rest, so he was alright. Putting on the black militar uniform, he dash out home, since he was almost late.

Rapidly stopping at the little a restaurant nearly to get some buns, Merlin ran through big and little streets and shortcuts to the Militar District, where school awaited with opened gates.

There was big movimento of people and carriages, as the noble said their last farewells too their sons until next summer. Entering the gates, Merlin was a little loss in the crowd of new and older students, when suddenly someone held his shoulder from behind.

"Good morning, Merlin! Then, how was the cultivation technique selection?"

It was a tall kid, with blond hairs and blue eyes, Leonard. Although he was the same as yesterday, if you observed a bit deeper, a fierce aura could be felt emanating from his body.

"Well, everything's okay besides the brain washing ceremony."

Upon hearing Merlin's words, Leonard put a serious expression on his face.

"Bro, I know how it is to people who aren't from royal lineages to get a cultivation method. But don't worry, I the future I'll get you free of such limitation."

"Don't worry, I had my way at the time, but I'm worried about Nicholas."

Leonard made a surprised expression upon knowing of Merlin's "ways" too cheat the system, but since everyone had their secrets, he did not ask any further about it.

Therefore, they began to chat about how they would spread their organization's power in the school and how to recruit good and loyal brothers.

Some time after, when the gates were almost closing, they finally found Nicholas at a corner. He was surrounded by four kids with rich appearances who were mocking him and throwing rock.

Upon getting closer, Leonard immediately kicked one at his stomach as Merlin gave a rapid strike at the other's c.h.e.s.t. The two remaining ones took some distance, as they shouted.

"Are you punks crazy? Do you know who your messing with? We're the descentes of the Great Commander of The Fifteen Thousand's! Just you wait!"

After threatening them with there background and position, they took the other two unconscious kids away. As they went away, Merlin look with a curious expression to Leonard.

"Leo, why didn't you say your background to frighten those losers?"

"Well, I don't know you, but I hate to depend on my background to solve my problems!" Leonard said, as they helped Nicholas up from the ground.

"Bro, you need to learn how to protect yourself, why didn't you even try to fight back?"

Nicholas gave a half smile.

"They were and four, and if I really did something to them, my family would probably suffer a lot..."

Upon hearing his words, Leonard got very mad, as his fist fired up with a dark red fire and exploded at a wall nearby.

"You don't have to worry about that in the next time my brother!! I, the Fifth Prince of London, guarantee that nothing will happen to you family!"

After he calmed down, the trio head back to the central yard, where everyone was reuniting. By now the gate were already closed and everyone was heading to there respective pavilions.

At the central yard, they made their farewells until later and went on their ways.

Merlin walked slowly through the Navigation Gate, as Mr. Willian awaited him at the central yard ahead. The other six student of Merlin's class were already in position around him, as he gazed at Merlin.

"Good day, cadet Merlin!"

"Good day, Commander!" Merlin shouted with a bit of respect, as he got to his position on the line.

Looking at them with a serious expression, Mr. Willian spoke.

"Today is our first day as a squad, for the next three years!! Therefore I hope everyone here is prepared for what awaits us!"

"Yes Sir!!"

"Very well! Today, the first thing we're going to do is to point the first squad commander of this division. Such person will be responsible for the organization of the group and to pass down orders!"

As he finished, almost everyone in the group had exited expressions, as if they already were the commander. Except Merlin; he thought that this alpha thing was a waste of time and energy.

For him, it was much better to keep your strength to oneself, only using it when necessary.

"Alright, so lets go to the battle arena!"

Then, the whole group of kid head to a flat dirt ground nearby, marked with white circles. Before Mr. Willian explained, the kids filled the circles with two in each and a third with three people.

Merlin's match was a noble looking kid with a disdainful look in his eyes.

"Alright, the rules are simple, being your opponent to unconsciousness or hit him out of the circle; shall the games begin!"

After the start signal, the boy started to move. The noble kid in front Merlin just gave a smile as some faint rays of lightning appeared around his hands.

"Let's see how many strikes you can take of my family's Thunder God Technique!!" The kid shouted as he gave a laugh and advanced to attack Merlin.

Although Merlin was not aiming to be a commander or something like that, he did like to show how much of a loser these wimpy noble people were.

Concentrating on his inner star at his heart, a faint bright Qi surrounded his body. Though his cultivation method wasn't the specifically a body-enchanting one, it still up his already anormal strength and speed.

As the guy was hopping to paralyses him with a lighting punch them finish him off, Merlin simply dodged in the last second. The kid only had time to turn around and receive a full elbow strike at his nose.

A loud cracking sound could be heard, as he felt to the ground, now covered with his blood. As he howled from his pain, Merlin simple walked out of the arena.

Curious, Mr. Willian asked him a question as he observed the other fight.

"Was it really necessary to break his nose."

Giving a smile, Merlin responded.

"I don't have mercy of my opponents, Professor; because having mercy to them is to being unmercifully to myself."
