However, the thought of her starving daughter made Wu Xiaolian raise her head again. “No. It’s not indecent! Please, just treat me. I can’t let Yaya starve!”
“Good. Let’s do what’s best for her,” Yang Guang said and pointed to the bed that was against the wall. “Lie on that bed. I will help unclog your milk ducts.”
“Okay.” Even though Wu Xiaolian’s voice sounded normal, her heart was beating at a rate of 160 beats per minute.
Even if Yang Guang was a doctor and she was his patient, it was still awkward, especially when the spot that needed to be treated was one of her private parts.
People who lived in villages always loved gossiping. If anyone in their village learned about what happened in the clinic, they would instantly become the talk of the whole village.
Wu Xiaolian sat on the bed with mixed emotions and glanced at her brother-in-law.
Yang Guang was rubbing his hands with alcohol and didn’t notice that Wu Xiaolian was looking at him.
The lady bit her lips and took a deep breath before lying down.
When Yang Guang finally finished sanitizing his hands and approached Wu Xiaolian, he realized she had her eyes shut.
“Xiaolian, I can’t treat you with your shirt on,” Yang Guang said.
“Ah…” Since Wu Xiaolian was too embarrassed to open her eyes, she slowly unbuttoned her shirt with her eyes still closed while biting her lips hard.
On the other hand, Yang Guang wasn’t himself either.
Even though Wu Xiaolian had a cotton tank top under her shirt, it was still an amazing sight for Yang Guang to watch.
After taking two deep breaths quietly, Yang Guang finally broke the short silence. “I’m going to start. You just have to relax.”
Wu Xiaolian did not reply to him. All she could do was silently beg Yang Guang to hurry up and start the treatment so that they could both get out of the awkward situation.
Ever since she took her shirt off, she kept telling herself she was getting treated by a doctor so that she could feed her one-year-old with her milk and nothing else.
Yang Guang had the same thought as well. He kept forcing himself to focus on the treatment.
The clinic was extremely quiet, to the point where their hastened heartbeats could be heard.
A few minutes later, Wu Xiaolian suddenly felt her tank top getting wet. She quickly opened her eyes and exclaimed, “It worked!”
“Yes.” Yang Guang nodded while forcing himself to pull his hands back. “The milk began flowing again once I unclogged the milk ducts.”
“Oh my god! Guang! Thank you! I have to go back and feed Yaya right away!” Wu Xiaolian got up with her face still red and buttoned her shirt up before leaving hastily.
As Yang Guang watched Wu Xiaolian leave, he couldn’t bring himself to forget the soft feeling that he felt in his hands.
Just like anyone else in his situation, Yang Guang was not paying attention to where he was going while daydreaming and tripped at the doorway.
He then stumbled backward and hit the cabinet before falling to the ground.
That wasn’t even the end. Sitting on the top of the cabinet were a few god statues. One of the statues dropped, hitting Yang Guang on the back of his head.
His eyes rolled back before his world turned dark as he collapsed.
When he finally opened his eyes, he realized he was looking at nothing but pure darkness. A second later, stars appeared everywhere before gathering in a single spot to form into a pure white book.
The words “Method of Divine Farmer” were written on the book cover.
The book was enveloped in a bright light. Before Yang Guang could figure out what was going on, he felt a throbbing pain in his head and fainted once again.
A long while later, Yang Guang finally woke up and rubbed the back of his head.
However, he felt like he could still make out the book. He tried to focus on it, and the light slowly dissipated. Once it did, he could see the words on the cover.
Even though he did not recognize the words, he could tell it was titled “Method of Divine Farmer” written in an ancient language.
“What is this? Did I get some power or something?”
Yang Guang scratched the back of his head and noticed the broken statue on the ground. He picked up the broken pieces, taking a look at them.
The villagers had been placing god statues in their homes since ancient times, and Yang Guang was the same as well. He had a few statues set up on the cabinet. Even though he didn’t know which statue was the one that fell, one was definitely broken.
“Perhaps I obtained something from it?”
Yang Guang quickly closed his eyes and opened the book.
[Enlightenment: Hundred Herb Scripture of Divine Farmer
Chapter I: Method of Body Refinement
Chapter II: Method of Mind Temperament
Chapter III: Method of Divine Ascension]
Yang Guang’s eyes widened when he read the contents. “Wait, so if I master everything in this book, I can become a divine being?”
After overcoming the shock, he swiftly opened to the first chapter, “the Method of Body Refinement.”
Even though the book was written in an ancient language, the words somehow translated into English in his head.
“Anything and everything that existed is composed of at least one of the five elements—metal, wood, water, fire, and earth…”
He read page after page and was completely immersed in the book’s content.
When he finished reading the Enlightenment chapter and the first chapter, it was already past midnight.
12 hours had passed since he woke up, but he didn’t feel exhausted at all. On the contrary, his mind was clearer than before. It was as if his body was filled with an energy.
The Enlightenment chapter seemed simple on the outside, but it was filled with a vast amount of knowledge that consisted of the effect and growth habits of all the existing herbs.
After reading the chapter, “the Method of Body Refinement,” Yang Guang felt a mysterious energy grow inside of him. The energy flowed through his veins, and he felt as if his body was filled with power.
Yang Guang wanted to continue reading the second chapter, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t open it. It seemed to him that he needed to master the Method of Body Refinement to a certain degree before he could move on to the next chapter.
He quickly sat down and excitedly began to meditate according to the first chapter.
Another eight hours passed.
The young man jumped up from the floor and started to punch the air. He felt livelier than he ever was.
Filled with excitement, he charged out of his clinic and stopped in front of the willow tree outside.
After taking a deep breath, he punched the tree.
A loud thud echoed back, and his punch managed to crack the dried bark, leaving a hole in the tree.
“Woah!” he exclaimed.
He couldn’t feel any pain in his fist even after leaving such a huge hole in the tough wood. It shocked him so much that he stared at his hand with widened eyes.
After a few seconds, he suddenly realized something and got even more excited.
“Now that I have this power, doesn’t this mean I might live a successful life if I utilize it?” he pondered.
However, just as he was lost in his excitement, he heard a commotion from not too far away. It sounded like it was coming from somewhere around his house.
The clinic was just a place for Yang Guang to tend to his patients. He still had a house in the middle of the village.
He checked his watch and realized it was already 10 in the morning. Not knowing which family was in trouble, or if the commotion was coming from his house, Yang Guang quickly locked up his clinic and ran home.
The closer he got to his home, the clearer he could hear the voices of people shouting. As he moved a few meters closer, he could see people sitting on the fence and the roof while looking in the direction of his home.
He immediately quickened his pace.
“I don’t care what you think! You’re leaving with me today!”
Yang Guang heard a man shouting before he could even reach back home.
“No! I’m not going! Let go of me!”
What followed after was Wu Xiaolian’s voice, sobbing and yelling.
Worried that something bad had happened, Yang Guang pushed the crowd aside and charged into his garden.
Three people were standing in front of his door—a woman in her fifties, a tall man in his thirties, and Wu Xiaolian, whose wrist was grabbed by the man and was being dragged out.
Yaya was crying in her mother’s arms. She was so terrified that her voice was starting to turn hoarse from all the crying.
Yang Guang frowned at the sight before him and charged forward.
As the man had all his attention on Wu Xiaolian, he didn’t even notice Yang Guang charge at him. Yang Guang kicked him in the back, and he fell face-first into the ground.
“Daming!” the older woman exclaimed when she saw her son get kicked. She turned to Yang Guang and yelled, “Who are you? How dare you hit my son?”
It was only then that Yang Guang finally saw their faces and recalled meeting them at his brother’s wedding. They were Wu Xiaolian’s mother and older brother, Sun Guihua and Wu Daming.
“Oh, aren’t you my dear in-laws? What are you two doing here?”
As they were technically Yang Guang’s relatives, though not by blood, he calmed himself down and smiled.
“Who are your in-laws? Everyone in your family is dead! We don’t have in-laws like you!” Sun Guihua yelled back with her hands on her waist like a Karen. “If anything happens to my son, you’re dead!”
Hearing how disrespectful they were, Yang Guang couldn’t help but clench his fists. He turned to look at Wu Daming who was struggling to get up and coldly asked, “Are you hurt?”
“Yang Guang, I can forgive you for kicking me, but this is a family matter. Don’t butt in,” Wu Daming grunted while rubbing his butt and turned to grab Wu Xiaolian’s wrist. “Come with me!”
“Do I look that insignificant to you?” Yang Guang got anxious and leaped forward to grab Wu Daming’s hand. “This is my home! How dare you make a mess here?”
“You f**ker! Let me go! Ouch!”
Wu Daming was about to hit back when he noticed he couldn’t pull his hand back from Yang Guang’s grip. It was as if his wrist was being pinned down by a pair of pliers. When Yang Guang tightened his grip even more, the pain made Wu Daming’s face turn instantly pale.
Yang Guang suddenly let go and turned to look at Wu Xiaolian. “Xiaolian, don’t worry. I won’t let them take you away.”
“Yang Guang!” Sun Guihua yelled. “This is a family matter. You have no right to stop us!”
“Seriously, what the hell is going on here?” Yang Guang was completely confused by the situation. He had no idea why Wu Xiaolian’s mother and brother were trying to force her to leave.
“Yang Guang,” someone in the crowd suddenly shouted. “Those two just sold Xiaolian and are forcing her to marry a middle-aged man!”
“What?” Yang Guang clenched his fists again the moment he heard that.
