Yang Guang knew that the cold liquid inside the snake’s gallbladder was nutritional for humans when consumed.

Even though the benefits wouldn’t do much for the young man, he still drank it down anyway to suppress the shock from having almost died and as an act of spite towards the snake that had almost killed him.

After downing everything, the bitter taste still lingered inside his mouth but his stomach was warm. He wiped his mouth before leaving the cave.

Stars were already out when he finally returned. Almost everyone was already back home preparing dinner and the village was filled with aromas.

There wasn’t anyone out in the street. When Yang Guang almost reached home, he could hear an argument from the courtyard. Among the different voices, he recognized Sun Guoying’s immediately.

Yang Guang’s heart skipped a beat, unable to believe that the village chief would actually have the audacity to try and mess with him again.

He hastened his pace and the moment he charged in, he realized there were two other women standing next to Sun Guoying with their arms crossed. Along with the man, they were all yelling at Xu Ling.

Xu Ling looked troubled as she tried to explain, but it was obvious that they weren’t listening.

“What is going on here?” Yang Guang roared angrily.

Everyone turned to look at him and Sun Lanxiang’s face turned pale.

“Goodness!” she screamed as she fell to the ground.

Li Shunlan’s legs trembled when she saw Yang Guang and had to grab onto Sun Guoying’s arm to prevent herself from falling over.

As a man, Sun Guoying tried to keep his composure, but a chill still ran down his spine. “A-are you Yang Guang?”

“What? Can’t recognize me now?” Yang Guang scoffed before it occurred to him and he touched his face.

He realized that it was covered in dried blood. It had dried to the point that it formed a layer like a shell over his face.

He quickly ran to the hose to wash it off.

Xu Ling walked up to him and asked, “What happened?”

“A python almost killed me. That bastard was huge!” Yang Guang sighed as red water flowed over the floor.

After washing his face, he wiped it dry. “Xu Ling, are Sun Guoying and his sister causing you any trouble?”

“Not really. It’s just that they aren’t happy with me looking into how many low-income families there are in this village.” Xu Ling smiled sadly.

“Don’t worry. I’m here to back you up.” Yang Guang patted her shoulder and turned to Sun Guoying.

Sun Lanxiang and Li Shunlan had somewhat recovered from their shock by now. When they realized the person was indeed Yang Guang instead of some lunatic, Sun Lanxiang yelled, “You little brat! What were you up to? Are you trying to scare us to death?”

“That would be good. How dare you cause a scene at my home?”

Yang Guang had never liked Sun Lanxiang, who was Sun Guoying’s younger sister. She was already in her late forties and her son was working in the city. Even though her son could earn a few thousand a month, she still had her brother register her family as a low-income household. Her house was stacked with expensive electric appliances and yet, no villager could confront her because of her brother.

As for Li Shunlan, she was Sun Guoying’s sister-in-law. Her husband had died in the mining incident as well, but as the owner of the only convenience store in the village, she still earned more than Yang Guang, who was the village’s only doctor.

Seeing that they wanted to register themselves as low-income families despite not meeting the criteria, Yang Guang didn’t bother with holding himself back when confronting them.

Sun Lanxiang was shocked that Yang Guang would talk back. “Y-you little brat! How dare you talk to me that way? Get lost! I don’t have the time to argue with you!”

Yang Guang rolled his eyes and turned to Sun Guoying, “So, you think that the secretary’s decision is wrong?”

“Of course! Their families meet all the requirements. How could she cancel their names from the list? Does she think she has more power than me, the village chief?” Sun Guoying argued while glaring at Xu Ling.

“Who do you think you are? How dare you call yourself our village chief?” Yang Guang scoffed and decided to threaten him. “Oh, right! you almost got killed by a rock earlier today, right? Should I head over to your house and tell Sun Dawei’s mom about what you did today?”

“W-what are you talking about?” Sun Guoying’s face turned pale as his eyes widened.

Seeing her brother’s change of expression, Sun Lanxiang asked, “What is he talking about?”

“Do you want to know? Let me tell you.” Yang Guang smiled. “Today, inside the cave on the hill…”

The young man spoke slowly while observing Sun Guoying. The latter’s face changed from pale white to a bloody red due from anger and embarrassment.

“Shut it!” Sun Guoying cut Yang Guang’s sentence short. “That’s enough!”

“What? What makes you think you can order me around in my own home? Isn’t that out of your jurisdiction?” Yang Guang laughed.

“Y-you! Forget it!” Sun Guoying barked and turned to leave.

Sun Lanxiang and Li Shunlan followed him out. There was no way they would stay with Sun Guoying gone. They could not understand why what Yang Guang said scared the village chief to this extent.

Yang Guang laughed until all three of them left.

“What just happened?” Xu Ling asked. “How did you manage to chase Sun Guoying away with just a few sentences? You mentioned something about a cave, right?”

“Oh? Are you curious as well? Should I tell you what I saw in detail?”

Noticing the cunningness in the young man’s eyes, Xu Ling jumped back. “Forget it. I don’t really want to know.”

She then went back into the building.

“Hey! Hold up!” Yang Guang chased after her. “Aren’t you curious as to why my face was covered in blood?”

“Right!” In the end, Xu Ling was still worried about him. “How did you get that on your face?”

“I literally almost died.” Yang Guang laughed awkwardly and told Xu Ling about his encounter with the humongous python.

Despite not having been there personally, Xu Ling’s face still turned pale when listening to his story.

“Thank goodness you’re safe…” Xu Ling let out a sigh of relief.

“Of course! Nothing would happen to me!” Yang Guang smiled at her. “I thought of you when the snake wrapped itself around me and it gave me strength to bite it to death!”

Despite knowing that Yang Guang was sweet-talking once again, her face turned red nonetheless as she rolled her eyes. “Go to h*ll!”

“Wait. Where’s Xiaolian?” Yang Guang decided to change the topic.

“She said she went to her mother’s,” Xu Ling answered and went into the kitchen to prepare dinner.

Yang Guang nodded, knowing that Xiaolian would be able to sleep better after giving the money to her mother.

Since the village Sun Guihua lived in was only ten minutes away from Qingshan Village by an electric scooter, Yang Guang wasn’t that worried about his sister-in-law.

He then helped Xu Ling with dinner and they waited for Xiaolian to return.

Yet, after a long wait and when the sun had fully set, Wu Xiaolian still hadn’t returned.

Yang Guang felt that something was off. “Xu Ling, could I borrow your scooter? I want to go check on her.”

“I’ll go with you!” Xu Ling stood up to follow him. “Something must have happened if she’s not back at this hour!”
