The Liberal Assassin

Chapter 21 - Unexpectedly Wanted

"Welcome back. How are you feeling?" C.h.e.s.tnut brown hair greeted me and I g.r.o.a.n.e.d. I wasn't in the mood to deal with the soon-to-be leader of Luna Services.

"It wasn't how I expected it to be."

The twenty-eight-year-old man giggled and patted me on the head as if I were five. "Well, good news! The mission was a success. You've been ruled out as the man behind the Night Walker and have a very good reason to step down as the official chairperson."

I hummed. Although it was my plan, something simply felt lacking.

"Has the invitation been sent?"

"You mean the death threats? According to Kevin, only eight had been seen making suspicious moves like calling in security but three did no such things, not even after Juma's death had been confirmed."

I frowned. "Who are they?"

The effeminate man sighed dramatically. "Can't you take a break? You're supposed to be a severely traumatised man now."

I rolled my eyes and sat up from bed. "Just answer the question."

Ignacio sighed and passed me a note. "Rion Wrightly to no surprise, Janon Trueman and Colin Veneral for some reason."

"Janon doesn't care, Rion is overly confident but Colin?"

Ignacio shrugged. "Beats me. Maybe it would be harder to get to a whore house with the extra security."

Even though the reason was beyond ridiculous, I found myself agreeing to it. Colin was a man who must have already slept with all the women in the Inner City and half the men with how many rumours there were.

"Would you like to start planning for the next target?"

I shrugged. "Already did."

"Who is it?"

"Not telling."

That was when I made the mistaking of looking at him. Ignacio made those doe eyes and my skin crawled. A man should never be able to pull it off so flawlessly. Wait, I take it back. Some women were no match for his doe eyes either. This should be illegal!

"It's the party lover! Don't do that dumb thing! It's disgusting."

"The kind of disgusting that makes your heart flutter?" He fluttered his lashes for effect.

I made a face. "No. The kind of disgusting that makes my blood run sour."

That comment only made the man laugh. Sometimes I don't get his sense of humour. Despite being the chirpy kind of character, Ignacio had some really dark and morbid fascination. His sense of humour often made others uncomfortable. The last time he cracked a joke, everyone laughed out of fear for their lives.

"Diango Prat huh? Let me in on it?"

I shook my head. "Not yet."

"Tomorrow?"

"No."

"Next week?"

"Not a chance."

Ignacio got mad and the next thing I knew, there was a tickle attack to my sides.

"Tell me!"

"Haha!! No! Hahaha… never. Stop it! I won't tell… HAHAHA!"

The battle lasted fifteen minutes and ended when I started dry heaving.

"Humph! Don't expect me to let you off so easily the next time. I will find out. Until you change your mind, I will be finalising paperwork for your resignation."

I waved lazily as he picked up a fallen pillow from the floor. Once everything was in order, Ignacio prepared to leave.

"Ignacio!" I called out the moment his hands touched the door.

"Yes?" my proxy turned around.

"Thank you."

"So what are you doing here again? You're supposed to be traumatised."

I grinned at Nash who was furiously signing doc.u.ment after doc.u.ment. "I missed you so I thought I'll live here for a while…"

The old man pulled down his glasses and narrowed his eyes at the sight of my wide grin. He pulled on one cheek harshly and I cried out in pain.

"What are you planning this time? Don't you have a list of people to hunt?"

I struggled to free my abused cheek from his grasp and cradled it. "I see that you've found out. As a matter of fact, I do have a list of people to hunt but now is not the right time."

Nash sighed and placed the pen down. "What's your next plan?" he asked and looked at me in the eye as if trying to figure out a tough puzzle.

I hummed while twirling the pen in my hand. Over the months of boredom in the office, I mastered the sacred art of pen spinning.

"Don't you ever get curious about the Slums' deepest and darkest secret?"

"Red Rumble?"

I grinned and then balanced the pen on the tip of my nose. Nash took that as a yes and left the room. The pen balanced perfectly until Nash came back with a wanted poster of someone very familiar.

"Is that…?"

Nash nodded and I felt my jaw go slack. I knew that it existed but seeing it was a different thing. Who knew that my proxy was such a popular person?

"For some reason, they only want him alive. Maybe you can start with this. Since you have nothing better to do, go bug someone else. Unlike you, I'm busy."

In less than five seconds, I was booted out of Nash's house with my Orion dialler. That didn't last long at all… and here I was hoping to camp there for the next five hours.
