The Little Calamity

Chapter 24 - black red talent

The last bolt that was waiting in the cloud disappeared as Rayne fell down on the ground. The lightning cloud produced one last earth-shattering thunder before it disappeared harmlessly.

Although a few buildings were destroyed the town itself was basically undamaged apart from a few broken window and short-circuited electronics. It would still be pretty expensive but it wouldn't cause too much trouble.

Rayne landed heavily on the ground, he managed to land on his legs but he quickly knelt from the pain.

' I was a little too greedy at the end because of my pride.'

Even if he was like this he was confident in his own ability, the reason he could take on anything without even blinking was not because he had no emotion he just knew what he could do better than anyone else.

Once he was down recuperating a little he looked at his body which was surrounded by a black aura, the borders were red which seemed a little weird.

' I think I passed three trials and now I have black talent, that mean I had blood red talent at the beginning.'

He didn't really have any feeling about all of this. The only thing in his mind was ' is Arisa safe' and ' why didn't she tell me about this weird lightning.'. Just as he said that he could feel two people coming toward him at high speed.

' Is this the effect of ki? I see, I don't know my level but I was quite weak, if I tried to attack Rhys I probably would have lost huh?'

The increase in power that he felt was not even on the same scale as what he got from the blood energy, He felt like he could kill a hundred of his old self with ease, even a thousand wouldn't be impossible. While he was lost in his own power he saw Luther drop Arisa who started sprinting at him with full power.

She was so quick that Rayne couldn't even see her move, when she reappeared she was already hugging him, burying her face in his c.h.e.s.t. Luther appeared soon after and shock filled his face.

" You.. that aura.. it's black and red."

It was clearly not just black and it was impossible that it was lower too, after all Luther saw Rayne surrounded by dark talent before the third heavenly tribulation. This meant that Rayne somehow managed to surpass what was known as the top. Arisa also forced herself away from him to look at it.

' During that final trial Rayne seemed like he lost a few years of memory. If the trial can do that then it's possible that failing the final trial simply erase any trace of it's presence from a person's memory.'

She was the first one to react, she used all of her ki to create a barrier around them, blocking both vision and sounds.

" Dad help me, if this news is leaked it would be bad news for him, I don't know for how long that aura will stay."

Luther quickly reacted after his daughter and created a much stronger barrier. Everyone would know that a high tribulation just happened in his clan so there could already be other experts coming towards here already to gather information.

" You two come with me for now."

Rayne didn't say anything, knowing full well the importance of keeping secrets to survive. All he could do was follow Luther further inside of the clan's territory. After that illusion he just wanted to hug Arisa but it would have to wait.

The weird aura disappeared mid way but it seemed like hiding the aura wasn't Luther's goal, he brought them to a huge golden door which he opened with a token. Rayne could see the huge amount of seal opening up, it was quite a sight.

' The world of cultivation is a lot deeper than I thought.'

Once he was inside he could see treasures as far as his eyes went. Each of them were full of energy, they felt a little like the black sword he absorbed. Luther closed the door behind them and walked directly towards a few items before bringing them back to Rayne.

The first thing he did was touching him with a weird, transparent rock. As soon as it touched Rayne it became black while the edge became red, it was quite evil-looking.

" Even a testing rock show those colors, as expected. Rayne, absorb this spirit artifact or you will be targeted everywhere you go."

Rayne looked unfazed at this mention.

" Is that a problem?"

He only knew blood city so he was thinking that the entire world was like this. This place was filled with Arisa's family so he though that it was the only reason why it was different. Arisa had a wry smile while Luther though he was being mocked.

" Dad don't be mad, it's an honest question. I still have a lot to teach him about the world."

Luther looked at her then decided to explain what this thing did.

" This is a spirit artifact that came from a chameleon of lie, it's a monster that can change anything about itself, it drop various artifact and this one in particular is quite rare. It can change the color of your talent aura and it require next to no ki to sustain itself so it won't slow your cultivation.

Your black red talent is something never seen before, if people won't kill you on sight they will at least kidnap you to try and learn your secret and you won't be the only one targeted, since you are now associated with our clan there is some chance that other powers will wage war against us, against an alliance our clan will be eradicated."

At this mention Rayne grabbed the bone that looked like a chameleon and immediately linked with it. The bone disappeared from his hand only to reappear in his mind beside the black sword, Rayne was a little curious about their secret but he would have time to look at them later.

" With this Arisa won't be in danger right?"

He asked the question just to be sure, he didn't really trust this man in front of him. He did try to kill Rayne at one point so he wouldn't let him go that easily even if he was Arisa's father.

' … I might make an exception, I don't want to relive the scene from the trial.'

While he was changing his plan from killing Luther to simply beating him the two were looking at him with weird eyes. Arisa seemed to be brimming with happiness while Luther didn't know whether he had to be impress or scared of the speed at which Rayne absorbed the artifact however he was able to find one of Rayne's weakness so it compensated a little.

" Yes you should be fine. Here let's try the testing rock again."

The rock touched Rayne again, this time it showed a royal blue color.

" We simply have to say that the heavenly tribulation wounded you and damaged your talent. As for what happened in the trials we will have to discuss it and come up with a valid story, we can do it here, this is the safest place in our clan."

Arisa immediately hugged Rayne before smiling at her father.

" Why don't we do this tomorrow, Rayne was heavily injured by the tribulation so I will take care of him for today."

She already started using her own ki to heal his damaged organs, Luther looked at her with an exasperated look.

" Fine but while we are here Rayne should pick a true spirit artifact. The earlier he gets one the better it will be for him."

Arisa looked a little frustrated at this proposition but she could only agree. She sighed in her mind knowing that she would have to wait a little before being with her master.
