Nightmare

“Ahhh!” Lux screamed and woke up from her sleep.

She was panting heavily, her face was pale, and her back was completely soaked.

She looked around in shock. She was lying on the bed in the room of the Lightbringer Temple. The sky outside the window had just turned white, there was no moonlight, and the lights in Fossbarrow Town were still burning.

Lux stopped looking out the window, she began to calm down slowly, telling herself that what she just saw was just a dream.

She stretched out her palm, and a ball of light appeared in her hand, dispelling the last trace of fear. Her whole body was filled with warmth, and the light moistened her whole body like warm milk.

There was the sound of someone talking downstairs, she clenched her fists, and the ball of light disappeared in her hands.

Lacus sighed, the sweat on her back soaked her underwear and clothes, she got out of bed and took off all the clothes. The graceful figure of a young girl who had just developed appeared in the room, and there was not a single scar on her naked skin, not even a single callus.

Lacus walked into the bathroom, there was only cool water in the tub, but this was just what she wanted.

She moistened a towel with cold water and wiped her whole body.

“It seems to be getting bigger again.” Lux squeezed her breasts. In the past two years, Lax felt that they were getting bigger every day, and the feeling that her breasts were always swollen made her a little distressed.

“I don’t want to get married. What are you doing when you grow up so big?” Lacus patted her chest, but they could only respond with trembling.

“Alas…” Lacus sighed, wiped her body, found a few clean clothes from the luggage bag, and put them on, feeling a little tight.

“I have to buy new clothes when I go back.”

After tidying up her appearance, she picked up her cane and walked out of the room.

The priests of the Lightbringer Temple all got up very early. When Lux came downstairs, the cafeteria was already full of people, but they all looked haggard, their eyes were darkened, and they were eating breakfast with spoons in a listless manner.

Lacus glanced at the cafeteria, then silently walked to the kitchen to get her own breakfast.

Breakfast was buttered bread and water. Lacus was very thirsty. She drank all the water, but she only took one bite of the buttered bread. After a night of nightmares, she found it hard to swallow whatever she ate.

A woman wearing the robes of the Lightbringer sat across from Lacus holding a plate. It was Sister Pernilla: “Do you understand now?”

Lacus noticed that Sister Pernilla’s bags under her eyes were almost down to her nose. Her complexion was as dark as mud, and her figure was as thin as a bare sapling. It was obvious that she hadn’t rested well.

“Nightmare.” Lacus said in a voice that only Sister Pernille could hear, “Is this the black magic that plagues Forsbarrow?”

Pernilla nodded: “Everyone in the town has not been spared, the nightmare has hit all of us, and it’s becoming more terrifying every day.”

“Is there anyone in this town who went crazy because of nightmares?”

“Not yet. Our temple is doing appeasement work every day. But if this continues, I think it will be a matter of time before someone breaks down.”

Lux clenched her cane tightly.

“Just asking.” Sister Peleni took a bite of the dry bread, “What did you dream about?”

Lacus’s breath was stagnant, and she stomped her feet uneasily: “It’s nothing…it’s just my childhood experience…”

“When I was a child”

“When I was ten years old, I also came here at that time.” Lux stared at the things on the dinner plate in a daze, “I… met a terrible woman here.”

“Woman” Pernilla was a little excited, “Could it be a clue to black magic?”

“I don’t know, maybe it is, maybe it’s not.” Lux herself couldn’t be sure.

“Is that so…” Pernilla lowered her head in disappointment.

“Don’t be sad, Sister Pernille.” Lacus said with firm eyes, “I will definitely do my best to investigate the truth of the nightmare and solve it. I swear on the honor of the Guardian family.”

Hearing what Lacus said, Pernilla’s expression softened a little.

“Now, I want to know what other unusual things happened here at Fossbarrow.” Lux asked.

“Is it abnormal…”

“Any small matter is fine, as long as there is something wrong, tell me everything.”

Pernilla thought for a while: “Since the nightmare came to Forsbarrow, every resident has been haggard. If there are unusual things to say…there are only two things I told you yesterday—Gissey Judge Erl’s son is missing, and two Freljords were caught trying to sneak into the city the day before yesterday.”

Lacus pondered for a moment: “Judge Giselle’s son…what’s his name?”

“Luka.”

“I’ll go find him.” Lux stood up, “But before that, I want to meet those two Freljords.”

“See them but they are in prison now.”

“Then I will go too.”Lux insisted, “The timing of their appearance is too coincidental. It may have something to do with the nightmare. I have to go and see.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, fuck your grandma’s rotten ass!” Olaf woke up from his dream, yelling obscenities, “I’m scared to death!”

Lothar was lying comfortably on the haystack, holding a piece of wolf’s tail grass in his mouth, and looked at Olaf amusedly: “Have you had a nightmare?”

Olaf’s face, which was always flushed, turned pale at this moment. He said with lingering fear, “I was scared to death. I have never had such a terrible dream in my life.”

Lothar was a little curious: “What did you dream about that made you, a fearless Lokfar warrior, so frightened?”

Olaf swallowed his saliva: “I dreamed that I was old, sitting very peacefully by the fire, surrounded by wives and children.”

Lothar was speechless: “Your nightmare… you’re quite unique…”

“It’s really terrible. I absolutely don’t want to die like that.” Olaf stretched his muscles, “What about you, boy, did you also have nightmares?”

“Well, I did.”

“What have you done?”

“Secret.” Lothar blinked slyly.

“Cut, I don’t mind asking.” Olaf turned his head disdainfully, “Boy, I’m tired of staying in this broken cell. When will I take me to that guy you know so well?”

Lothar rolled his eyes: “You still have the nerve to say, if you hadn’t gone berserk when you entered the city and knocked out the soldiers defending the city, we wouldn’t be here now!”

“Who taught them to touch my beard, but still want to touch my beard.” Olaf said angrily, “If you hadn’t stopped me, I would have killed that group of poor soldiers.”

“We’re here to find opponents for you, not for you to massacre the city. Will you be honored if you kill those soldiers?”

Olaf thought about it for a while: “It’s also… killing those soft-legged shrimps will only dirty my axe.”

Lothar shook his head helplessly. This Lokfar berserker was really disobedient. He began to doubt whether it was the right decision to bring Olaf to Forsbarrow.

“Oh, I’m so bored staying here.” Olaf cracked his bones, “I might as well just smash this broken cell and get out.”

“Don’t worry.” Lothar stopped. “Don’t you think this nightmare is very strange? I see that everyone in Fossbarrow is out of spirits, which is probably related to this nightmare.”

“Oh.” Olaf suddenly became interested, “Is the opponent you gave me the creator of this nightmare?”

“I don’t know.” Lothar rubbed his chin, “But no matter what, something strange must have happened here at Fossbarrow.”

“Then how long are we going to stay in prison?”

“Let’s just wait and see what happens. Anyway, at least they won’t send us to the guillotine for a short time. We can still… Shh!” Lothar moved his ear, and raised an index finger to signal Olaf to be quiet, “Someone is coming.”
