The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 10 - Veni, Vidi, Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered)

David had no idea what happened to her abilities, he had seen her use them, but it seems she was not strong enough to have been able to get out with her son. Which also begged the question, if she knew she was not strong enough, then why did she wait until the last moment to leave.

Today has been filled with a million type of different coincidences that David felt as if there was someone else pulling strings behind the scenes. Everything that had happened since he left his house has been completely out of his control, and till now, he had mostly been able to get by with a doze of luck. Physical wise David still s.u.c.k.e.d, he was not even a fighter. He was good with a gun, and had the 'amazing' ability of knowing when an animal wants to go number 2. He felt useless no doubt and it was quite daunting knowing that somehow you were not in control of your destiny, of your own future. But David was grown up enough to understand that, that's how life works, no one is ever in control.

The Hover bike suddenly shook a bit, and David had to quickly steady it as he held on tighter to Lilith who almost fell off. Holding her and driving at the same time was a lot harder than it seemed, she was sitting right behind him, but with her weakened body and the fact every little gust of wind blew her every which way, David was stuck having to constantly right the hover bike to prevent her from falling. The hover bike was modified and was incredibly sturdy, Lilith's dance with the wind can do nothing but shake it a little.

David contemplated telling her to come to the front so that he could carry her princess style and use his hands to support her, but if he was not so scared of having that diamond fist of hers penetrate his heart he would have said something. But a suggestion like that might make her decide to just kill him immediately without even waiting for them to get to the city iron.

There were three mainland bridges on Victoria island, those three were made mostly to avoid traffic congestion since Victoria island was also an active trade city serving as the hub for other islands in the entirety of the black dream sea. However even though there were three bridges, and each bridge was built in such a way that it was hanging almost fifty feet above the island itself. There was a ramp that led up to the bridge itself, David was not sure he knew why the builders designed the bridge that way, but due to that, the bridge was still above water, well most of it anyway.

But there were people as far as the eyes could see, the water had rose enough that the entire ramp has been submerged becoming a part of the sea, David watched the waves roll forth and back, and with every recession the water made David could still see people on the ramp, some of them were already dead, others were still struggling, but the bridge itself was so filled to the brim with people that there was no hope for those behind to be able to climb up. Slowly they were swallowed by the sea, effectively becoming prey for the creatures that lurked in the deep.

David drove above them with a hardened look turning a deaf ear to all their jeerings, insults and pleas for help. They were stuck and he was not, in fact he came from behind them and he could move on while they were stuck waiting for their death. David drove at minimum speed for a period of ten minutes, there were other varieties of flying cars, buses and hover bikes too. But this could only be owned by people wealthy enough, the resources this vehicles had been made with were rare, expensive and required a lot of processing and tests to be made. You had to have a significantly deep pocket before you could afford such novelties.

The bridge was lit up in the night as the waves moved and crashed over its frame, some people had chosen to brave the sea itself, but there was little doubt that they were going to survive. At this moment the sea was man's worst enemy and without the lights on the bridge to serve as a beacon and deterrence to the monsters of the deep, they were all going to die, regardless of how fast their vehicles could move. The bridge was effectively the yellow brick road, and if they wanted to survive they had to follow the yellow brick road.

When David had drove deep enough, he saw something that made him curse out loud. A huge energy wall that stretched almost, well David was not sure exactly how tall it went. But its length however, David knew this wall of energy stretched around the entirety of Pangea. That was billions of square kilometers if not more, Pangea was after all six times the size of earth. This energy wall was known as a pulse gate, every child in elementary school had learnt about it in their history and social studies class.

The pulse gate was made or actually found a millennium ago, they were submerged and strategically placed around the entire continent. It was a remnant of a forgotten civilization or past. It took the brightest minds Pangea had to offer, five hundred whole years to find out how it works, and even then they could not use it to its highest capacity. It served as a shield to cover Pangea on times of extreme danger, and this shield had the ability to repel anything thrown at it with two times the force used, and it did that in waves releasing pulses of energy to push back attacks.

If the pulse gate was up, then there was more danger than just the sinking island and evolved animals now monsters coming. As if to confirm his thought the whole world shook and the wind picked up, the smell of the sea became more intense and powerful as Lilith's white hair whipped all over David's face.

David turned around and his entire complexion became pale in seconds, a tsunami the size of a mountain was rapidly approaching, and with the speed it was coming with, it would be here in minutes, if not less. Chaos exploded.

Everybody on the bridge went straight for the gate without caring about it's repelling effect, as the banged on the gate it released pulses that pushed the congested mob backwards, a lot of them fell into the sea due to how close they were to the side of the bridge. When the pulse reached his hover bike, it shook heavily and lost power, Due to the fact that David had modified the bike with a more sturdy frame, he was able to withstand the shock from the pulse and landed safely on the bridge splashing water everywhere. An area of about a hundred meter from where he was standing to the gate was devoid of anybody, even the other flying vehicles close to the gate had lost power and fell into the sea. David gunned the hover bike and drove on the bridge straight for the gate. The flight mode was currently offline due to damage from the pulse so all he could do was drive.

When he got close enough to the gate he was able to see soldiers standing guard beyond the gate, with no hope but to plead David shouted at them.

"Open the gate? This woman is injured we have to get through."

The soldiers looked on like they cant be bothered with answering him. One of the soldiers looked at him with a serious face and said to him.

"Only high ranking military personnel and their families can be let through, are you a military personnel?"

David widened his eyes immediately and laughed as he quickly showed his regulator to them while also saying.

"My name is David Johnson Iye, youngest son of general Martins Jefferson Iye, Hound designation Black hole."

The soldier looked like his eyes would pop out of his sockets, he looked around at his superior who had come over immediately after he heard me mention my father's name.

"A picture with the black hole and his family means nothing, that could be photoshoped. Without proper proof of identity, I'm afraid we can't let you through."

David was visibly panicking now, the wave was getting closer, and even with the weight of Lilith over his shoulders he still tried to hold on.

"Call him, Call anybody in his division they can confirm my identity" David shouted at them.

"Why don't you call him yourself, we're all here. If you can prove you're the son of the hound, I will open a partition in the gate to let you and that half dead woman in. She's quite a beauty though, maybe you should send her in instead." The soldier joked.

"I can't call him, the gate is isolating any sort of message and not letting it go through. Please you have to try." David pleaded with tears in his eyes,

But at that moment the roars of the incoming wave was not the only thing he had to worry about. The people who were left standing after the previous pulse were all frantically running for the gate. David's heart was beating so fast as he panicked with no hope in sight.

"I'm sorry young man, I can't help you. After this is over I will be sure to notify the Iye family about your claims. If it turns out to be true I hope you forgive me in heaven or hell which ever place you might end up. I will also be sure to make some compensation to your 'acclaimed' family. It's a shame about the woman though."

Then he turned around and started walking away, David was devastated, he was sure that they never had any intention of opening that gate in the first place, and even though they knew David might be telling the truth they refused to budge. They were not afraid of retaliation from his father as they could just as well claim they were following military protocol. The military won't endorse a case over a dead body when there was absolutely no proof the person making claims was really the son of a respected hound and general.

All of a sudden Lilith came down from the hover bike with shaky legs, then she made he way to the pulse gate. She placed her hands on it, and the place her hand was touching immediately became red with strange circles of symbols and runes revolving around her palm. Her actions had actually drawn that attention of every soldier beyond the gate. They all looked like they had seen a ghost.

"Pulse Gate identification protocol, Soldier is listed under designation 00000009 Demon hound. Major of the first legion of the twelve city states. Major Lilith Azazel Jones. The day Demon."

As soon as she finished speaking the red circle around her palm turned green, lighting up her face in the darkness and giving the soldiers beyond a good look of her soulless and glaring eyes. David though she looked badass.

"open gate, height one thousand meters, length twenty meters."

"Nooooo!" The soldier who was a superior screamed out, the pulse gate pulsed once and dissipated within the parameters Lilith had mentioned. David did not waste any time as he grabbed her, this time he truly carried her in front of him and then he drove past the confused soldiers who were trying to plug the breach in the gate. Unfortunately they could only do that by coming in contact with a part of the gate that was still active. And on a bridge that was only fifteen meters wide, it meant they had to go over the sea if they wanted to close the breach to save their lives.

Lilith could have opened up the gate wider, but that would have been counterproductive putting their life in danger. At twenty meters they could still close the gate, but not before a significant amount of people already went through the hole scrambling for safety and trampling any soldier in their path and each other.

David did not look back as he drove down the almost fifty kilometer bridge to the mainland. It would take a while to get to the mainland due to the distance needed to be traveled. But they were not even ten minutes into their frantic journey before they heard huge crashes behind them and scared screams of hundreds of people. David felt worried, but he knew Lilith had given a few of them the chance to survive, if they could take it. He shook his head and drove on with the weakened Lilith in his hands and death behind him. The sea had taken what it has given, this night signifies a change and a loss. And with all its beauty as the stars littered the night, it felt hollow, empty. Painful.

Then three tortoises poked their head out of the bag on David's c.h.e.s.t and stared strangely at Lilith while she also stared at them in surprise. She moved her head left and they did the same, moved her one arm up and they also did the same. Then she closed her eyes and fell asleep in David's arms. The three tortoises raised their heads and screeched to the night sky, their black eyes twinkling within the night.

David looked back one last time at the island he had grown up on, in both worlds and to both David this was home. To David of earth this was a strange world and he has had to fight every second to survive since he came here. It was hard but he triumphed over all his obstacles. It reminded him of an old saying in Latin, a dead language on earth, and the language used by spell casters on Pangea for magic. He looked down at the three tortoises and said to them.

"I have names for you now, though we have to wait so that I can find something to differentiate you guys. But from now on your names are Veni, Vidi, Vici."

"I came."

"I saw."

"I conquered."
