The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

The ground was rapidly approaching, as their out of control cruiser came crashing down from the sky. However it was a testament to Lilith's piloting skills, that she was able to keep the cruiser relatively steady and slow down their descent. At least until they went through the first building.

The impact shook and rattled David's brain, leaving him a bit dizzy and delirious. Thankfully they were wise enough to have their seat belt on, if not they would most likely have had their brain splattered all over the windshield of the cruiser.

But even though they had been able to avoid being thrown out through of three inches of reinforced glass, they still hit their head pretty hard, which left them bleeding. Minerva had escaped much of this torture as she was not sitting near anything but two massive tortoises with a balance as solid as rock. The whole rampage did not jostle them one bit.

Lilith took out an entire street and much of a public park before the cruiser came to a stop in front of an abandoned bank. David had this pain in his ribs that was making it incredibly difficult for him to breath, he really hoped his ribs were not broken to badly, or he could be in danger of internal bleeding.

"We need to get out now, before all those monsters converge on our position."

It was Minerva who had spoken, she and the tortoises had escaped from this crash with nothing more than a scratch and a few bruises. David was relatively okay, except for the blood that completely covered the right side of his face and the ringing in his ears. David was skeptical, from the look of things, he might have a concussion. Lilith was not as lucky as it seemed she had hit her head a little too hard during the crash, she was completely out of it and was of no use to anybody.

"We need to get to the Mayor's office. It's the only way to survive."

David said to Minerva. It was the only plan he could come up with at the moment, because he was practically in a war zone and their strongest fighter was currently delirious. But David had one more problem, the hover bike could only carry two people, and David had an extra woman and two and a half giant tortoises to worry about. Leaving anybody behind was not an option, but the hover bike had all their supplies and weapons.

David unstrapped himself from the co pilot seat and had Minerva help him with Lilith. He placed her on Vidi, then used the seat belt and parachute straps to secure her to back of the giant turtle. Vidi's shell was bound to be completely uncomfortable, but they had to make do.

David repeated the same process, but this time he had all of his weapons, and a little bit of their supplies tied to Veni's back. This might seem detrimental to their movement speed, but David could not afford to not be armed or supplied. He had no idea what to expect, but he to prepare for anything.

He hung the two shot guns on his back along with his battle blade, then he handed the charged Yizart handgun to Minerva. The assault rifile was already reloaded, and David had some extra ammo on him. Seeing as he was relatively prepared for his death, David opened the bay doors, and then all hell broke loose.

What came through was a beast that David could only describe as a sabretooth tiger. Thankfully Minerva was prepared as a stream of fire from her hands burnt the huge cat to a crisp. But the tiger was not alone as it seemed to be in a pack with four others.

David raised his gun and squeezed the trigger, alternating between each tiger in mere moments. David was a little surprised, his telepathic abilities had activated itself without any warning, and it was stronger and more familiar than ever. His ability to sense the hostile intent of any living thing was getting stronger. David was not one to look a gift horse in the mouth as he stepped out of the cruiser, Minerva followed with the three tortoises surprisingly keeping pace with them.

In fact it was David and Minerva who had to keep up, this things were like a house, yet they were moving as fast as wolves. Not to mention dangerous. Veni being the only evolved one among them stuck close to David, but her brothers were going wild, which made David a little worried considering that Lilith was on one of them.

They were putting their surprising speed and razor sharp fangs to good use, by attacking any other monster that crossed their path. And with the speed they were moving, David sorely regretted leaving his hover bike behind. But there was nothing to be done about that now.

"Minerva do you know how we can get to the mayor's office."

"Do I look like I live here?"

"good point."

David had no idea where the mayor's office was located, usually it would be placed in the middle of a town, or at a place with a good vantage point. But David could not find such a place seeing as he was surrounded by tall buildings and abandoned cars. Minerva looked around a bit before she turned to ask him.

"Where do you reckon we are?"

"I don't know exactly, but I'm going to take a wild guess and say the corporate district."

"Which means the office should not be far from here."

"We can't be sure, but let's go. We don't have much time before we're surrounded."

David led his band of dysfunctional pals through a gap between two corporate buildings, both of them seemed to belong to the same insurance company, though David doubted they would be doing any more insuring after their entire city went to hell. They moved through both buildings trying to be as silent as possible, though David did not think they should have worried about making any noise as the city was filled with the roars, bellows and screeches of different monsters.

But what was really to much of a highlight was the amount of blood David could see, even as they walked David could see various corpses of different sizes, since he could hardly, if at all tell the age of any of the mangled and rotting corpses he could see.

They finally got to a corner and David turned a bit to see what was going on. From where he was standing, there was a garden with a giant oak tree in it, placed smack dab in the middle of the street. The garden was enclosed by a row of really well crafted metal fences, and beyond the garden, David could see a building with a gate. The only problem was that the gate was closed, and it was surrounded by monsters.

"Well I guess there's no way we're getting into the Mayor's office. We need to find ourselves a secure location, preferably with supplies close by and at hand."

David said to no one in particular

"So what do we do?"

"But I just said that already."

"Who the hell tied me to this bloody animal."

David and Minerva had not been able to find a common ground, and the fact that she was around always made David upset and anxious. Thankfully Lilith seemed to have woken up from her concussive nap. David let her down from Vidi's back, while also patting him on his head, much to his enjoyment.

"If you need a secure location, then it would be better if you head to a police station."

Lilith suggested while massaging her head in pain. David had a weird look on his face, a police station was built to keep criminals from getting out, it just seemed really weird that it would keep monsters from getting in. But they had no other option, and David knew for a fact it wouldn't be long before other monsters congregated on their current position, after all they had made quite a bit of noise already.

"Do we even know where the police station is."

Minerva asked with worry all over her face.

"That would probably be at both ends of the town, but since we don't really know which end it is, we have to pick a direction and head towards it. We can't go north since that place is already swarming with the beasts, so we have to go south and hope for the best."

Lilith had given her reply while moving down a street, she was not even given any body any option but to follow her instead. David was all for letting Lilith be in charge of saving their lives, the only down side was that the whole thing made him feel completely incompetent.

Ten minutes into their search for the police station a shadow flew over their heads, it was the eagle that crashed their cruiser, and it seemed to be looking for them. They made their way into a restaurant and hid behind a counter over looking the entrance of the restaurant. They could see the shadow of eagle through the glass windows of this restaurant as it flew through and fro over their heads in an almost circular manner. Then.

"SCREEEEEEEEEECCCHHH!!!!!!"

"BLAAAAST"

It was the same sonic screech that brought their cruiser down from the sky, it blasted through the entire block, shattering windows and shaking the very foundations of the building they were in.

"That thing knows we're here."

David shouted in horror as he swept pieces of broken glass off his body. His ears were ringing because without the cover of the cruiser, they were left vulnerable to full brunt of the sonic screech, and it was not a pleasant experience for any of them.

"We need to get out of here, before it comes back."

Minerva suggested while setting her hands on fire. From the looks of things, it was as if she had no intention of using the gun David gave her. Well to each his own, but David did not appreciate the waste of a perfectly good weapon, and being in a place like this meant that they had to conserve their strength.

They ran outside and down the street as fast as possible, but their timing was wrong as the eagle had already circled back. The crystals on its head lit up as it prepared another sonic screech. Unfortunately for them, they were all caught outside and without shelter of any sort.

"It's coming!"

"Well thank you captain obvious, I can see that!"

Whether it was from instinct at the sound and sight of coming danger, or David was becoming more familiar with his powers, but the tell tale heaviness of his body when he used his molecular restructuring abilities was felt. And this time under the glare of the sun, he could see his brown skin gain a tinge and a hue of grey, like a rock.

The eagle dipped down from the sky and decided to fly right in the middle of the street. Its wing span was a whole lot wider than both streets, but somehow it was able to tuck it close to its body and was flying towards them at a speed that left David with a bad taste in his mouth.

It opened it's giant beak and screeched, David could see the sonic waves it made as it approached them. More glass and windows were blasted to pieces, wooden doors and concrete turned to dust as death made a beeline for them. None of them could move as the watched on in fear and shock at the sheer destructive ability of the eagle. If that thing was to meet them, then there would be nothing left of them but a cloud of blood.

Veni however stood fiercely in front of all of them as if her tiny four foot humanoid frame was enough to protect them from a sonic wave that stretched across a street fifty to almost sixty feet wide. David felt himself choke at the sight, to put it simply, this evolved humanoid tortoise was his pet, the very idea of her dying even though it was inevitable made him very unsettled.

However her horns started to glow as she dug her clawed feet into the pavement. Her shell showed up covering her entire scaled body and glowing with an intense black light. But by then the wave had already reached her.

"WARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH"

"BOOOOOOOOOM!!!!"

It was as if the sonic wave met a solid wall of steel and rebounded back towards the eagle. David could not see it as he was thrown off his feet by the blast, but the sonic wave smashed into the eagle and brought it crashing down to the tarred street. There were feathers and crystals everywhere, along with a significant amount of blood that was rapidly pooling around the still alive but heavily injured eagle.

David got to his feet with his ribs giving him a pain so fierce he felt like he was going to pass out. He turned his eyes towards Veni who was completely unscathed, and was covered with a black gaseous like substance. She looked completely oblivious of the fact that she had just brought down a bird the size of a three story building, give or take a floor.

"What the hell just happened."

Minerva asked in shock at the sudden change of events and surprise that they were still alive. But Veni was the only one willing to answer, but even then her answer could not be considered an explanation.

"Warrghh?"

And then she inclined her head looking incredibly confused at the sight of David and his two companions looking at her like she was something out of a story book. Lilith was the only person to speak next, and what she said completely summarized David's current thoughts.

"I'm too sober for this shit, God I need a drink."
