When David woke up it was in the middle of the night. For a moment he had no idea where he was, which made him a little panicked, but it did not take long for him to be able to get a hold of himself. Currently he was in a cell, which meant that Lilith and Minerva were able to find the police station, however they were both o where to be found.

David sat up as he tried to recall the series of events that brought him here. First of all it was Veni fighting off a giant lizard, it was really jaw dropping at first, but David had a working theory. By the looks of things, it seemed the three tortoises had the ability to adapt and assimilate the properties of anything they invested. And previously Veni had taken a chow out of an Ionite array, the fact that she survived alone was a miracle, but it was also the reason why she could evolve into her current self. Veni had the abilities of the compound Ionite, which meant she now had the ability to repel and nullify abilities and energy, it was like the ultimate defense.

Next the eagle was killed, and then they were attacked by a giant spider, but he was able to deal with the spider with hell of his abilities, and then he was attacked by something with really sharp claws, he remembered he was bleeding out, and then he heard her.

David's eyes widened to twice their normal proportion as he came to a sudden recollection of everything that had happened to him. He quickly threw of the blanket that was placed on him and tried to get up. Though that might have been a mistake since almost immediately David felt the whole room spinning, it was by sheer luck he was able to grab hold of the sink in the cell before he came crashing down to the ground like a sack of dead flesh.

David took a few moments to catch his breath, he was feeling really weak at the moment, which meant he had to rest, at least until he recovered from his injuries and could move around a lot more easier. David noticed his entire midsection all the way to both his shoulders were bandaged. It was as if he was wearing the bandage as clothing.

David raised both his shoulders up a bit, but almost died of pain at the ensuing feedback. His eyes watered rapidly as he felt the sting of the burn marks Lilith left behind. David did not know how to approach his current situation, Lilith burned him, she could have killed him, yet she did not hesitate. That was not the kind of thing you did for people you cared about, and David knew for a fact that this was going to leave a scar.

Then he raised his head up to look at the mirror above the sink, but what he saw frightened him so much that he stepped back so fast and suddenly that he fell over, hitting his elbow on the edge of his bed in the process. David held on to his breath as he let out a muffled scream at the feeling of pain that lanced through his body from every possible direction.

The tears fell freely from his eyes now as every part if his body throbbed and screamed in pure agony. David was only making his injuries worse with every sudden movement he was making, yet he could not help the feeling of terror after what he saw in the mirror.

David shakily got back up to his feet, his heart still in his throat and turned his gaze back to the mirror. It was true, what he had saw was not a lie.

His entire left eye was different now, his pupils were yellow and reptilian, and the area beneath his eye and above his cheek had a patch of yellow scales in the shape of a cross. But there was horror within his gaze none the less as fear over what might have happened or gone wrong with him attempted to drown him. All of a sudden David felt the need for fresh air, as the entire cell felt very suffocating and malevolent.

When David made his way out of the holding are, he was met with the sight of an abandoned station. Sheets of papers, overturned desks and specks of dried blood seemed to be the norm in this place, it was as if a giant hurricane came in and tore the entire place apart. The main door and the windows had heavy iron gates in front of them, sort if a secondary security measure. But from the looks of things, none of the former inhabitants of this station were able to make use of it before they were attacked.

David maneuvered his way past the mess and went to stand besides one of the windows. He looked out into the surprisingly silent street and heaved a sigh of relief. There was no patrolling monster, or a giant lizard that was coming for his soul, it seems even those monsters needed to sleep. He looked up at the sky focusing his gaze on the full moon that hung over that blackness of dotted stars and hidden suns. He never noticed, but the moon of Pangea was bigger than earth's, way bigger, because it looked as if all he needed to do was to reach out his hands and he could pluck it from the sky.

"It's beautiful isn't."

David was startled, he had not heard Minerva come up behind him. For some one who could quite literally exploded the air he was breathing, she was way to silent. Maybe she trained as a ninja or something.

"It is."

David replied after he was able to get his breathing under control. His ribs still ached, but not like his shoulders that were also itching the hell out of him. It made every move he made very uncomfortable.

"How are you feeling?"

"Like I was burnt by Lilith."

David did not really want to sound like a child, and he knew it was not her fault, but he couldn't help what he was feeling at the moment. The woman he liked burnt him, it was weird, and even if it was to save his life, David doubted that it worked as well as envisioned. His eyes were yellow and he had scales on the left side of his face.

"She did not have much of a choice, it was the only way she could save you, and prevent the infection from spreading."

David brought the full brunt of his gaze on Minerva, he made sure she could see his yellow reptilian eye. He wanted her to understand that Lilith might have well has just condemned him to a fate worse than death. He did not know why he was not in the control of that lizard, but he feared it was only a matter of time before he became just like Ahmed. Lilith might not have seen what it was like for a human being to be under the control of that lizard, but he has, and it was nothing but a very miserable sight.

"Look at me Minerva, look at my eye. Do you even know what this means."

David asked her with his voice full of angst. Minerva did not even look perturbed, it was almost as if she had expected this would happen in the first place. Instead she stepped forward and placed her hands on his face as she answered him.

"Lilith has told me about what the scaled skin, and eye color entails. It means you're under the control of the evolved animal you both came here to kill.

But it is obvious you are not under her thrall, though we can't be sure of the reason and would have to expect the worst, but for now. You are yourself and that's all that matters."

David did bot agree with this assessment of Minerva, his current condition was up for debate. He might not be under her control bow, but that did not mean she wouldn't gain control over him later. Which meant he had to live his life in fear of when he would loose control and all that he was and is would become to that lizard.

David had felt her mind in the brief moment that they were connected. That thing was insane as it had a rather twisted view of humanity, while also having a humanity of its own. The worst of what humans were, the greed, the jealousy, the hate, the selfishness, the anger and that hate were what she was made off. Her entire psyche was an amalgamation of every single one of those emotions, but the worse would be the fact that this monster had the capacity for love. And that made her even more dangerous.

But in the end he could not help but keep on asking himself why. Lilith had already promised that she would kill him, she already knew the lizard was somewhere in the city, and even with her current weakness, it would have been only a matter of time before she would have killed it, especially with the help of Minerva. Letting him die would have been fulfilling her promise and she would have gotten the vengeance she wanted for her son. So the question remains.

"Why?"

David did not realize he had asked his question out loud, and Minerva got the basic gist of everything. She had stayed with them for a little while, so she was quite familiar with the relationship between the two of them.

"Because she couldn't bear to loose you. I can not speak for her, but from what I have seen Lilith cares for you. And not like a little sister to a brother, or like friends. No, what i mean is that you hold a really special place in her heart, which was why she was willing to save you regardless of the risk."

David was shocked, as far as being romantically connected with Lilith, he had somewhat given up on that dream. The Lilith he knew was very different from the one Pangea knew, but they were still the same person. David felt a woman as fierce as she was, was only looking at him now because of the circ.u.mstances that brought them together. But to think that the basis of her saving his life, was because she cared about him seemed very unreal. It was like a ray of sunshine for David as he felt a little lighter than before.

"How can you be so sure Minerva. Lilith is not your average girl, and doubt you picked all that from her practically nonexistent facial expressions."

"Hahahaha, no I guess she isn't normal. But just call it a woman's intuition, we have an instinct for this kind of things."

"But if she care's why is she always pushing me away. Sometimes we're so close it's like we have known each other our whole lives, and other times it's like we're complete strangers."

Minerva did not answer immediately as she instead turned her head to look out the window, letting the rays of the moon bounce off her dark red hair. It made her seem as if she was on fire. It made David realize how beautiful the woman in front of him really was, she was not one the level of Lilith, but Minerva had a beauty that just screamed gentle. It was amazing how you could only ever see the true side of a person when they were talking about love, that emotion was literally the key to a person's soul.

"David I believe the reason why she pushes you away, is because she's afraid. She's afraid of how much she has grown to care for you, and it's either because this is a completely new experience for her, or she had been through this before and only ended up hurt."

"Wow! Are you a shrink or something."

"heh, as a matter of fact I am. My father and I were psyche evaluators for the hound division in the city of iron. We were transporting a dangerous prisoner before things went side ways and we were captured and thrown into the arena. So I guess you could call me a psychologist."

David felt his mood sour when he heard her mention her father, it was actually a painful subject for him as it had to do with actions he had taken, which he was not really proud off.

"For what it's what, if it means anything to you, I'm really sorry I killed your father. That person in there is not who I am, it was just a minster born in that arena. And I know this is not an excuse, but it is the only explanation I can give. If you want revenge, I won't fight back."

"hahahaha"

David was shocked by Minerva. He had heart fully apologized to her for killing her father, yet she was laughing at him. Maybe the death of her father affected her a whole lot more than David imagined.

"I'm sorry to laughing, but you're just so cute when you apologize, it reminds of a wolf dog I once owned. I understand you were left with no choice David, and whether it was you or the devil in you who killed my father, I don't want that to define you. Lilith and me, we depend on you and each other for our survival, so you would have to let it go. As for revenge, well let's worry about that when we're safe, I'm going to have my revenge David there's no doubt about it. I owe it to my father to make sure his killer suffers, but its not in a way you would expect so don't worry I won't kill you.

Now go to sleep, you need to rest."

David wondered why every woman he had met till this point had now developed a vendetta against him. He had to worry about revenge from Minerva and Lilith, and that damn lizard, and if you notice, it all seems like a pattern repeating itself. David might have been happy a few moments ago about Lilith actually caring for him, but it now paled in comparison to the knowledge that everything he had done so far, has just been a repeat of events but in different ways. What the hell was going on.
