David heard his garage door close with a bang, it was at that moment he let out a sigh of relief. He had made it home in one piece, nothing was missing except for those already gone so he felt quite good about himself, until he remembered what he had been forced to go through, what he had been forced to do. His mood soured as he disconnected the shopping cart from the bicycle. Thinking about Ahmed left a bad taste in his mouth and ruined his mood, guilt was a tricky thing. Once you felt it, it was hard not thinking that everything wrong with the world was your fault.

"Well Ahmed always said that the universe would wipe the world clean of sinners. I guess this is Pangea's own book of revelations or end of days." David muttered to himself.

He moved the cage containing the tortoises, and surprisingly in the half hour it took him to return home, these three reptiles had chewed a hole big enough for either one of them to walk through their cage. But they just busied their self with eating the rest of the metal.

David did not feel the urge to own any pets, in fact at this point in time that would be very counter productive and stupid. Only idiots with a death wish would think it wise to own pets when the pets were rising up and eating their owners.

But David needed this tortoises for an experiment, essentially they had now taken the roles of lab rats, and what was being tested was David's telepathic abilities. David had felt his ability at work before, though the first time he was mostly unconscious and the whole thing was disorienting, but the second time when one of those cats was trying to take a bite out of his neck, he was able to get the cat to lean slightly enough that all he got in exchange was an ear almost sliced to ribbons.

David had no idea how to use his abilities, he knew it would be quite dangerous using a mental ability with a level one mental strength, but it would be incredibly stupid to not take advantage of every weapon in his arsenal. Besides he was sure he could do it without pushing it too far.

But before that he had to prepare himself for his journey off the island. He had at most three days before his body absorbs past the capacity it was capable of and experiences an energy surge. At that point all of the energy in his body would be used to improve his abilities based on his recent activities. David had a lot of things planned for the future, so it was better to be prepared to leave at a moments notice, especially when this island only had a week before it goes down under.

The thing is David had not yet seen any sign that the island was sinking, but just before communication was cut off from the outside world they had been able to find out that a few islands off the south eastern coast were currently sinking as the sea level seemed to be increasing. Victoria island was one of those islands mentioned and there have been reports from people who leave closer to the sea saying their houses had been submerged in just a night.

David lived right in the middle of the island, it was why the commercial district was so close by. David moved the tortoises into a thicker tool box and left it slightly open so that they could have air. Then he made his way up to his room to gather his clothes and guns.

The two and half meter hole he had somehow made during the last energy surge had a long wooden plank over it. It was the only way David could get across since his body was not strong enough to make that kind of jump. David made his way to his room as he got his clothes ready, as this was not a routine vacation David need to think of the clothes that would offer him more protection but it should be all within a proper fashion sense. David would rather die than look stupid or un stylish. Unfortunately for him David from earth was the fashion guru while David of Pangea was the nerd with the most terrible fashion sense ever(what the hell would he be doing in a pink rain coat.)

Looking at his closet David shivered in horror, he could not begin to imagine how he had survived his whole life on Pangea with such a horrible fashion sense. A lot of the clothes were practical, especially if the current situation should be considered. But their colors were horrible, or their sizes were to big. It was just a big no.

David made his way to his brother's room. Mark's room was the epitome of male masculinity, there were posters of n.a.k.e.d girls on the wall, computers, gaming consoles, a virtual reality game pod, a mini gym, a fridge and an enormous bed. And his closet, good God in heavens, it was amazing. David wished wherever his brother is right now God should let him die quickly and without pain for having such an awesome collection of clothes. David was giddy with excitement, but before the joy could go completely off the rails the rationality of David of Pangea reminded him that he couldn't take much and the clothes had to offer proper protection, thankfully they were both almost the same size with David being a little taller and Mark more muscular and filled out. Their shoe sizes however were the same.

David pouted for a bit, arguing with himself about how much of a killjoy he was. It was weird talking to yourself even though it was something everybody does, but for David it's a little more complicated considering he had two souls, two set of memories and two personalities almost the same but with a lot of huge differences.

David took the most fashionable and safe clothing he could find, and a face cap. He took the shoes that were thicker and bigger, his brother favored boots a lot, especially custom made ones with metal soles and stupid words with magical symbols.

And then he went back to his room and grabbed a few extra things like his u.n.d.e.r.w.e.a.r and an extra toothbrush. There was no way he was sharing u.n.d.e.r.w.e.a.r with his brother, besides David actually had better u.n.d.e.r.w.e.a.r than that miserable bastard.

David put everything he could into a duffel bag, the quad bike was modified by David because he wanted to travel in style. Disregarding the fact that traveling on a bike that flies with no back rest for thousands upon thousands of kilometers was extremely uncomfortable, David had made the Bike larger because he wanted it to smash through any obstacle, move well in rougher terrains, and have a bigger trunk space. But mostly its for the space.

David dragged the clothe filled bag and the bag of guns back to the garage with way less ease than expected. By the time he got to the garage he was already sweating so hard you would think he had run for miles without resting.

The first thing he did was install the power cell and had the rest of them charging and ready for use. Then David made some checks on the hover bike, yes he was going to call it hover bike from now on. It was classy and sounded better than just bike. Then he started the bike and this time it did not go off. Engaging its flight mode David felt it rise up about a meter of the ground. It was humming steadily and was a whole lot quieter than David expected a modified hover bike to be. He made a few rotations and made sure it's remaining functions were online, like it's head lights, brakes, GPS, and rear view cameras.

Wholly satisfied with its performance, David loaded what ever had to be loaded into its trunk. He separated the food he was going to be eating for the next few days and then stored the rest along with the camping gear in the hover bike. Then he made his way to the tortoises with a hardened look on his face. It was time to see how much of a freak he now was.

There was a staring contest currently going on in a house with only a young man and three baby tortoises as it's residents. And this contest had been going on for the past fifteen minutes. All four participants had their eyes focused on themselves. Well three of them had their eye focused on one person.

David leaned his head to the side, and all three tortoises did the same. He raised his hand to wave hello and all three tortoises actually raised their clawed feet or hands to wave right back at him. Then he tried to smile, and the tortoises tried to match his grin with theirs. The ensuing results was terrifying, considering this little guys had jaws filled with rows of really sharp teeth.

Just so you know David was not controlling the tortoises or anything. In fact he had been trying for the whole of fifteen minutes to read their mind or something, but all he did was strain himself so hard he ended up getting a headache. Then he noticed the tortoises were actually copying his every move, it was like training a bunch of dogs. They were smart, way, way smart. And David spent another fifteen minutes toying with them. And for the first time since he woke up as two guys and realized the world s.u.c.k.e.d big time, he had an actually genuine smile on his face. He had been really stressed out with all of the bizarre things he has had to face. Telepathic powers or not, he was still human and he was physically and emotionally exhausted.

But he knew to make the best of this moment, who knew when he would get a chance to be this happy and care free again. In this moment there was a bubble that blocked out the world and all of its problems from reaching him. So it was just him and three little animals who were just as alone and forgotten as he was.

But like every other bubble this was not going to last, because eventually the world will come calling and it would most definitely bring its problems along. David sighed as he lifted one of the tortoises and brought it closer to his face. Creepy eyes and fearsome jaws aside, it was a magnificent beast. Its blue shell with red veins running in between it cracks was a very beautiful sight and it seemed to have a metallic glint and l.u.s.ter to it.

Then David heard something, it was not hearing really it was more like feeling. He felt full, he felt a need for release if only if he would just get comfortable, he felt like taking...

"Oh Shit!"

But it was already to late as the tortoise he was holding decided it would be a really good idea to leave a steaming pile of...well a steaming pile of shit. David almost flung the animal in his hand out of annoyance, but he was able to put it down before his anger and irritation got the best of him. David made his way to the kitchen sink and let the water run over his arms as he scrubbed as if his life depended on it. Seriously how was this fair, he adopts the damn thing, and then it decides the best way to thank him was to go potty on his hands. This s.u.c.k.e.d a lot and he wondered why the damn reptile did not give a warning before it did this. And then that's when it dawned on him, it did give a warning in fact he felt the warning.

David left the water running as he made his way back to the tortoises who were now playing a game of stack the blocks. Using their own bodies as the blocks as all three tried to climb over each other. David picked one of them up and brought it closer, he was not sure what he did the last time to initiate a connection, but he had watched too many Hollywood movies about super heroes training. He was pretty sure he owned this shit.

He took a deep breath and tried to clear his head, which was easier said than done since there was a million and one things marching around his brain right now. Since he couldn't clear his head, he instead chose to focus on the tortoise. He looked at it with such Intensity and felt really hungry. Which was strange considering David just ate, he widened his eyes immediately in shock because he knew he had made the connection. He was sure the tortoises were as smart as any other human being, the only thing was that they were children. That and the fact that David could not get anything more than a few 'feelings' due to how low leveled his ability was made it hard to get anything other instinct from the tortoise.

This could not be considered traditional mind reading, but it still fell under the category. His telepathic abilities were not strong enough to read thoughts or even influence them, however he could feel intent and instinct as long as he was in contact with them. It was really awesome.

Then David felt liquid dripping from his nose, he moved one hand to his face and pulled it back covered in blood. David only had the chance to say "Shit!" before he collapsed to the ground with the tortoise on his c.h.e.s.t.

The whole room began to spin and David felt dizzy and weak. He couldn't move his body, neither could he control it as he vomited all over himself, he felt his bladder and bowels discharge themselves with reckless abandon as the stink of body waste filled the air. And then his head started pounding and throbbing, there was a ringing in his ears that was so intense he felt like his head was going to explode. The pain was unbearable and it kept on increasing like the beats of a drum rising to a climaxing crescendo. David wished for death at that moment, but it never came, he wished he would just pass out, but his body was rather adamant about punishing him. And so he laid there for hours unable to do anything but let pain ravage his body. And when the hours blended together to the point he lost total recollection of time or his surroundings, the darkness offered solace.

Instinct and nature go hand in hand, sometimes most people say it's the same thing. But its not. Instinct is sudden and fleeting, but a nature is who you are. That can never change because it's the one rule of the universe.

And then the universe went and got f.u.c.k.e.d up. She could not remember the time when she suddenly developed the awareness, when everything seemed clearer and she felt stronger, and faster and bigger. Instinct was sudden and nature was set, that changed.

With her evolution came a clarity and a sense of understanding she had never experienced before, it was daunting but at the same time very comfortable. She reveled in her new power, she could see the world differently and understood differently and all this was mostly attributed to his efforts. Ahmed.

She had spent a significant amount of time in his head, even though he kept fighting her till the end she still got a lot out of him. He was her teacher, her best friend, her guard and most importantly he was her pet. She learnt so much from him and his memories, she saw so much glory, glory that was the human race and its superiority.

They dominated everything, controlled everything, and once upon a time she would have been at the mercy of their hands. She did not like that at all, not one bit. Animals were living things too and she felt that each of those humans had no right to treat them as lesser beings, it was not fair.

And with that knowledge she grew wiser and smarter with each day that passed, her growth was controlled and hidden properly, but even she did not remember the time before she woke up stuck in a rubble and attached to a human. But with every increase of power, and intelligence, so to did her blood l.u.s.t and loathing for the human race. They thought that they were so powerful, but in the end they had created the instruments of their own destruction. She grew each day only for the purpose that she would have the ability to step on them soon enough. To prove and show them that some other creature, some animal has the capability to stand at the top of the food chain.

And all was going well until he passed by. At first all she could think about was how much of a tasty morsel he looked like, but his appearance made her teacher and pet fight her. He struggled for release, for freedom, and she was not ready to loose him, because she needed him too. She had grown attached to him, to his views about the universe and his knowledge about Pangea. It was due to that very reason of how dependent she was on him for growth and survival that forced her to fight back.

But she fought back to hard. She really had no idea about the scope of her strength, but in the process to retain supremacy over the half of his brain that she had claimed for her own, he lost control over his own half and then he belonged to her completely. But that was not what she wanted, because she felt as clear as day that he was gone. He had become a mindless drone, a creature that could do nothing but be her puppet. She raged in anger and loss, and she would have loved nothing more than to tear the one responsible to pieces.

And then she lost her connection completely, it was the last straw to break the camel's back, because she knew and understood the concept of death in a way most humans might never get to understand. Ahmed was completely gone from this world, killed by that boy with skin the color of the earth.

His death hurt her, both emotionally and physically. The back lash from the lost connection rattled her skull enough that it left her with a headache. Trapped or not she wanted to eat him and so she struggled to face him.

He looked tiny and insignificant, there was not even enough meat on his bones to be considered an appetizer. He looked weak and pathetic, so tiny and seemingly inconsequential that she silently mocked his species. If this was what the top of the food chain looks like, then the food chain needed a serious review. And all was good with the world at that moment, she would savor her revenge and the feeling of eating a human for the first time, and then she would begin her dream and ambition of conquest. She would lead her fellow animals on a rampage across their cities and lay waste to the lot of them. She would show them true power and what it meant to really be an apex predator.

And then reality came smacking right in her face, it was then she realized that part of the reason humans had always been on top and so feared was because of their tools, take that away and most of them amounted to nothing. They hurt a lot, stung like nothing she had ever felt before. Forced into retreat she watched him leave, all the while her scales ripples and shifted in anger and despair. She wanted nothing more than to claw him to shreds and feed on the remains of his corpse, but she was stuck and could do nothing but watch him disappear from her sight.

So she was left with no choice but to bid her time, a few days later she smelled it, it was the smell of death. And it was not because the remains of Ahmed and the other unfortunate animal was a few meters away. No this scent was different, it was wet. She smelled the sea and its sudden and rapid approach. She could feel the dangers that rippled within the deep, creatures of such fearsome magnitude that she would be unable to compare, and they were coming for this island, they were coming for everything.

She had not survived this long only to die at the hands of fellow animals who were definitely less intelligent than her and mostly driven insane by evolution. For this guys all that was left was instinct and bloodl.u.s.t. They could only understand one thing, and that was death.

The scent made her scales harden in fright as it drew closer with each passing moment, she could already feel the wetness beneath her as the sea began to cover the foundation of the house she was stuck in. She was unwilling to die here, but luckily enough for her the water was also a savior, it helped loosen the rubbles around her, and with great efforts she was able to pull her bulking body out. Walking was awkward considering she had been trapped for a long time, but she had no time to learn as she scampered away amidst splashes of sea water with a tint of blood in it. She ran awkwardly but with the singular intention of getting off this island, her target of revenge completely forgotten and left behind as survival became paramount.
