Episode 5: I’m a Stranger

In addition to the main characters, there are other minor characters that are distinguished in this academy.

They are the Mob A team, Mob B team, and Mob C team.

The closer your rank is to A, the more chances there are for the protagonists to recognize you, but unfortunately, I’m in Mob D, which is even below Mob C.

It’s sad that I’m not even recognized by the other mobs.

The main heroine, Dorothy, interferes with me as I go about my uneventful life at the bottom of the heap.

I had just lost my childhood friend to the hero, and the hero’s childhood friend came to me.

“Grand・Ignition!!”

The first day of school.

I remember that the power of the attack magic she performed was so enormous that the plains were scorched and cleared.

The clouds parted and a bright red beam of light was released from the sky that burned everything, scorching the land it was performed on.

At that time, Dorothy said with a bitter smile.

『This is just ten percent.』

It seems that when she gets serious, the whole land is torn to pieces.

It seems that her cuteness was not her only weapon, she was too strong.

In the first place, Dorothy was not the kind of girl who bragged about herself often.

Unlike Lute, who is an unconscious narcissist, I’ve never seen her conceited even when she’s accomplished something great.

I wonder if it’s because she has low self-esteem, or if it’s because she sees things from a common sense perspective and understands that what she’s doing is not normal.

Dorothy has an unusual charm involving that.

Even though she is in a position to win as the main heroine, she is an extremely extravagant person.

Is it okay for such a person to talk to me?

The answer is obvious: No.

It might be a sign that some bad event is about to occur soon.

So I decided to ignore her at all costs.

Rather than resolve the question of why, oh why, did she come so close to me, I’ll just do my part as usual.

I’m just going to be invisible enough to blend into the background like normal.

And I ignore everything Dorothy says.

No matter how much she calls out to me, no matter how much she closes the distance, I do my best to avoid her.

Lunch time.

I was eating bread alone in the dark space between the back of the school building and the annex.

I don’t have any friends to eat with in the classroom, and more importantly, I’m embarrassed to eat in front of any other people.

So, I decided to make this my special seat.

It feels good to be in this empty space.

I’m tired from what I’ve been doing for a while, so I’m going to relax here until my next class begins.

“Well, what a coincidence.”

I felt the presence of someone creep up on me.

I looked up and before I knew it, there was a girl there with a huge smile on her face.

I couldn’t help but wonder what she was so happy about.

“Can I sit next to you? Ah, that’s the second time I’ve asked you that today.”

She sat down next to me before I could answer her again.

I quickly moved away from her, but she kept smiling and came even closer than before.

I tried to move away again, but she kept coming closer without any hesitation.

“What was it from a while ago…?”

“Hm, nothing.”

She seemed to be enjoying herself.

Dorothy seemed to be enjoying her mysterious game with me, a mob character.

It’s not about that though.

Why is she not with Lute?

I hadn’t seen her have lunch with anyone other than Lute since the start of her time at the academy.

“As I said in class, I just want to get along with you. So I don’t know why you’re so uptight about it.”

“I’m in a situation that doesn’t make sense over here…”

She suddenly gave me a musing look.

“I know you’ve been acting and talking to me like a stranger for a while now, but since we’re going to be friends, you can feel free to talk to me, okay?”

We are strangers, you know.

I was happy to see Dorothy’s slightly angry face, but I want her to drop the curtain on her interference with a mob character.
