The Luckiest Mage Should Have A Harem

Chapter 13 - How Can He Smile?

Warren breathed hard, a volley of metal strikes thrusting toward him with deadly force. Even though he could only narrowly dodge them, the sheer force from their power alone pushed him back.

Although he had his eyes locked, waiting on the one thing he knew would come.

Kill Joy's Magic, what could it be?

"Hey kid let's make this easy on both of us, just lay over and die."

Warren parried his over head swing and thrust his blade forward, of course, it was smacked away with ease.

"Sorry, but, I'm not fond on dying so easily."

Warren knew he was gonna die. Even if he just figured out a God had been chilling inside of him since birth, one thing was still wondering in his mind.

How, how could he possibly beat an S ranked Mage?

Indeed Warren had almost bested his sister using <Fold> but if he messed up the Spell once again, the Fey he had been given by Karma would deplete twice as fast.

At the moment, it was a battle of pure sword play, and somehow Warren had escaped all of his attacks within millimeters.

Eventually, he would be hit.

Kill Joy smiled as Warren evaded backwards, as he did he was stopped midair. He fell forward, the puzzle pieces swiftly fitting together as he glanced back.

Their was a barrier, one that stretched in a sphere around the entire clearing. Warren could not run, the wager by the Gods stopping any outside interference.

Now, Warren was stuck within a 20 meter dome with a maniac who was two ranks stronger than him. He wanted to scream, most of his tactics built upon learning his opponents moves.

Kill Joy however, kept his poise and rocketed forward, thrusting his katana, the edge stopping inches from Warren's neck.

"<Divine Judgement>"

Killy Joy raised an eyebrow, then as if the Spell finally activated, a deep gash appeared in his right shoulder. Blood sprayed in an arc and Warren whistled, "How do you li-"

He stopped, his body shivering as he looked down at his stomach. Warren almost puked, his stomach sliced open and a weird assortment of meat and intestines starting to seep out.

What?

Warren gagged and looked away, his gaze falling on Kill Joy, the bandit grinning through bloody teeth.

This was his Magic.

Warren quickly tried his best to put his stomach insides back where they belonged, but as he reached to touch it, they dissolved.

The once gruesome scene disappearing.

Warren was... completely fine.

Kill Joy shrugged, "You okay kid? You look a little pale."

Warren sprinted to his left, trying his best to put distanced between him and his enemy. What he just witnessed was unworldly but at the same time so real he could not help but keep glancing down.

He was completely taken aback, and at the moment he still needed a plan, a plan to over come his recent endeavor.

But what?

.

.

.

Just a stone toss away from the barrier, Reya bit her lip as the men slowly began to get up.

Lucy hissed, her claws jutting out as the duo sprang to their feet. Reya needed to see if Warren was alright, like an itch in the back of her head.

The thought of him fighting an S rank alone would be impossible. She knew from when she saw Kill Joy, that he would be something else. The Magic she sensed nasty and impure.

Lucy, the cat, spoke within their minds, 'So what do we do?'

Reya threw her hood back on, 'We need to help Warren.'

Lucy scoffed, 'We can help your boyfriend later, we have a problem on our hands."

Reya surveyed the men before her, their eyes all settling on her petite body.

Not again...

She made sure not to focus, is she did she would hear their thoughts again. No matter how distasteful they were.

'Lucy we need to fight'

"Um, hey there?"

It was from a plump man who wore black leather. His face young and a scar across his lip.

Reya equipped the two daggers she had left, her eyes growing cold.

"We don't want to fight you."

Reya slightly lowered her guard, her keen violet eyes watching closely. Lucy also gave way, her intense stare falling away.

In unison, the both spoke,

"What?"

The mercenaries lowered their weapons, the man who had spoken before stepping forward, "Look here Missy, we might be mercenaries but one thing is certain."

An elf like man nodded, "We won't kill if we aren't getting paid for it."

Reya gritted her teeth, "So what."

"So, we were contracted to kill everyone but you and that cat, and unless I see two hundred silver in my pocket I got no quarrels."

Lucy watched carefully and glanced at Reya. The beautiful girl still ready to fight.

"Reya lowered her daggers even more. She peered into their thoughts, not a single o.b.s.c.e.n.e day dream playing out.

It was true, the men before them had no intention of killing the duo. Mercenaries only killed when paid to do so afterall.

Rey pondered their thoughts, a stream of relief falling over here. Then, she realized one detail.

The hammer that was thrown, all of its energy had been dissolved, even the remnants of Fey seem to have dwindled to shards.

Lucy's eyes widened, her heart sinking as she took off toward were Warren had run off too.

Full speed, she was replaying the gruesome scene of her Master being split in two. It was so real, but as if nothing, she could feel Warren's energy again.

What? What was going on?

Warren evaded again as another deadly slice cut cleanly in front of him. Even if the wound on Kill Joy's shoulder seem deadly, his sword strikes did not falter.

But there was still one daunting thing. Warren had sustained zero injuries since the fight began, while his adversary was bleeding like crazy.

'What the hell is going on?' Warren asked himself as he dodged away once again.

He turned to face Kill Joy, broadsword at the ready.

"Alright, I think I am all warmed up now."

The black man cracked knuckles and did a small hop in the air. He pointed his katana at Warren, "Not bad kid, not many people hit me this hard when I warm up."

Warren shuddered, a wave of euphoria and fright washing over him. He began to shake uncontrollably, his blade swaying back and forth.

"Now lil' Mage, I'll show you why they call me Kill Joy."

Kill Joy was within inches of Warren without fail, the Mage taken aback by such speed. He quickly spoke, "<Divine Judgement>"

Warren was cut cleanly in two, as if the world hesitated as Kill Joy's blade cut cleanly through Warren flesh. Blood and guts rocketed backwards and the force sent Warren's body parts flailing backwards.

The gruesome assortment of flesh and gore splatted against the invisible barrier, Warren's eyes widening as he felt the most excruciating pain.

He glared down at his body, only...

He was fine once again, the previous scene no longer there. Warren threw up, the bread he had a day ago making its way cleanly out of his throat.

The bile slid down to the ground, a cake of puke at his side. Warren had not even moved, Kill Joy still a few feet away. It was like an illusion.

The Mage laughed, "How do you like my Magic, pretty great right?"

Warren held his mouth and glared daggers at Kill Joy, "W--w."

Kill Joy chuckled like a child, even going as far as to hold his belly and wipe away a tear, "Look at ya' you might as well be an infant. Oh poor thing, was seeing your death too much. HAHAHAHAHA."

Warren fell to his knees, the memories of his body being split in two almost too real, as if he really had died.

"Let me give you a hint, its my Spell <Death's Door>. And let me give you another hint, using it is doesn't even take up that much Fey."

Warren finally was able to get his bearings, "Why, why did you tell me that?"

Kill Joy shrugged, "Oh I just want you to know, before I kill you, I want you to experience it over and over again until you break."

Warren grimaced and managed to stand again, "I won't br-"

Killl Joy sprinted forward with blinding speed. Warren countered by turning his sword vertical and stepping to his right. His sword was knocked away with immense force and without a second to spare, Warren was reaching for his neck.

Blood dribbled down to his c.h.e.s.t, the ligaments and esophagus cut wide open. He clawed for air and fell over in agony.

"BAWHAHAHAHAA!!"

Then, Warren realized his neck was fine, and the blood he had once spilled no longer there.

Warren heaved for air, his lungs filling with relief. The Magic he was facing was the worse so far. Nothing, not even the deadly speed of his sister, could explain the feeling he had just witnessed three times. A Magic so vile that Warren almost thought about giving up.

He thought about just letting it happen, living through this hell was torture. He honestly just wanted to close his eyes, so he could never see it again.

His death.

But of course, the cogs in his mind started to turn, and just as it did so many times before. His lips perked up, a devilish grin spreading across his face.

He was lucky, lucky enough that he was able to fight Kill Joy. To test his luck one more time. He knew <Divine Judgement> would not work on Kill Joy's Magic, only his physical attacks.

But there was still one thing going for Warren, Kill Joy had almost no clue what his Magic could do either.

Warren g.r.o.a.n.e.d and got up, his eyes locking on to Kill Joy, "Not bad, you almost got me there ya know that?"

Kill Joy stopped laughing and took a stance. He posture went serious, the look on Warren's face sending chills down his spine. For an S rank to feel such a wave of fear, Warren was no longer going to be his play thing.

The boy Mage raced forward, his boots digging into the dirt as he pushed off with great force. He readied his blade and reached his hand out. Warren yelled with all his might,

"ALL MIGHTY PUSH!!"

Kill Joy put his guard up, strengthening his arms with Fey. He would take Warren's Spell head on and counter with his speed.

But, nothing came, and instead of taking on a Spell, Kill Joy cried out in pain.

Warren dug his blade deeper into his t.h.i.g.h, his eyes stone cold as he quickly pulled his sword out and rolled away.

'Out played' Warren chirped in his mind, his grin opening as he spit on the floor, "What happened Kill Joy?"

He had faked a Spell to make Kill Joy throw his guard up, leaving his other parts quite fragile. Warren had ripped the name straight out of Naruto, hoping that the emphasize would help him all the more.

Kill Joy whistled and examined his wound, "Dang, you hit me again, did not expect that one at all." He spit on the floor also, "First time in all my years I experienced that trick."

Warren bowed, "What can I say, I think outside the box."

Kill Joy grimaced and shot forward once again, the two dishing out attack after attack, but with one strong side slash, Kill Joy finally landed a hit, the blade chopping a clean cut on Warren's side.

Warren grabbed the wound, blood spewing onto his palm. He had taken a heavy blow, and now because of his arrogance he was inches away from <Death's Door>, the Spell he started to hate with a passion.

"Warren!!!" Lucy yelled with all her might.

He ignored it, grasping his iron broadsword and reading himself. It was do or die now, and the blood that now caked his entire side his timer.

He would have to honestly fight to kill, something he never wanted to experience.

He fell to one knee from the sudden jolt of pain, his breath hot and waning as he looked up, "Would you spare me a second or is that too much to ask?"

In a single swoop, a blade cut cleanly through Warren's neck, the muscles and bone blasting backwards from the force.

Lucy's eyes widened and Reya came rushing forward.

How had it all come to this? Why was the gruesome scene playing out and the lifeless body of Warren falling the ground in a heap.

"W-warren..." Reya leaped forward, but as she did an invisible barrier knocked her backwards. Lucy stopped and glanced upwards, "Its a barrier, what the hell is going on."

The feline tried to reach out to her Master, but each attempt was thwarted by an unseen force. Reya shot up and also gave her hand, only for her Spell to bounce off.

"What the, is this his Magic?"

Lucy was in complete shock, "Look, he, he is fine..."

The duo watched as Warren seemed to be fine, as if the previous scene was null.

Warren but his lip, "You sure know how to make someone want to die eh?"

Kill Joy grinned, "It's my specialty."

He reached his hand out, "<Hell's Dominion>"

Warren froze, the nerves in his body completely stuck in place. His sword fell to the dirt, the weapon rolling away as Kill Joy stepped forward.

Warren was like a statue, his entire body staying were it was. He could only watch as the black katana was slowly aimed toward his heart.

He screamed out in pain, the blade slowly piercing his skin. It was over.

Warren had experience pain before, but this, this did not take the cake but the whole bakery. He was done for, and as his mind faded, he focused.

Waiting.

Then, he felt it, the release of the Spell Kill Joy had casted, and just like before Warren looked down to see he had not been injured at all.

He was right.

Warren ducked as the katana soared over his head. He held his hand out and opened his palm. Warren looked up to see Kill Joy in complete shock.

"<Fold>"

Just as before, an incredible amount of golden energy gathered just above Warren's open palm, and as soon as it did, the Spell fired off.

The beam of golden light exploded forward, taking Kill Joy with it as it barreled backwards like an explosion.

*BOOOOOM*

Kill Joy's body crunched against the invisible barrier, the wall withstanding the blast with ease. After the Spell died out, Kill Joy slid to the floor in a heap.

Warren whistled, "Haha I was right."

The dark skinned man managed to sit up, blood caked across his face, "How?"

Warren thumbed his chin, "Well, you see I knew your Magic was weird, especially since it seemed it did something that was fairly obvious. Your Magic never hurt me, no matter how much you used it I always came out unscathed. At first I thought you were toying with me, but when you got serious I knew that play time was over."

Warren bent down and gripped his broadsword, "So it occurred to me, what exactly is your Magic? After tasting it a few times, I realized what it was."

There was a short pause.

"You can control your killing intent can't you."

Kill Joy did not answer, the same word uttered from his mouth, "How?"

Warren continued, "So I chanced it on that, and after you used it to force my instincts to freeze, I confirmed it. Your Magic can't hurt anyone, it only can amplify your killing intent."

Warren smiled, he was glad he got lucky, because if Kill Joy's Magic could indeed physically damage him, he would surely be dead.

"Also, you were using it to act like you were an S rank, isn't that right A Ranker, I was surprised when you stopped the hammer but it was all just by chance you had the Fey to spare.

Kill Joy still spoke one word, "How?"

Warren sighed, "You know this is the part were you tell me you hate me or give a speech about world domination, way to make it bland."

Kill Joy bit his lip and glared upwards, "No, How..." he coughed hard, "How can you smile?"

Warren rose an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"

Kill Joy scoffed, "You witnessed your death four times, and not only are you fine, you are even smiling. How?! How can you, who is just a kid, not be effected at all?!"

Warren shrugged, "I don't know, I was just glad I was able to test my luck on you, safe to say I still got it."

Kill Joy slumped to the floor, "You bastard..."

This time, it was the Goddess of Misfortune.

"How can a mortal with such mental fortitude exist, this is foul play brother!"

Karma took control of Warren, "No, this is simply my vessel dear sister."

Warren chimed in, " And that's 2-0 against the Goddess of Misfortune."

Karma seem to chuckle as a black fog seeped out of Kill Joy's skin. The black mist rose in the air, soon disappearing into nothing.

Warren gripped his side, vertigo hitting him as more blood fell form his body, "Damn, even if I got hit once this sucks."

Reya slid to his side, "What happened, what's going on? Are you okay?"

Warren coughed, blood foaming at his mouth, "You know most people would help me out before bombarding me with questions."

Lucy peered from behind Reya, her eyes watering, "Master are you..."

Warren rolled his eyes, "Yeah I'm fine A.s.s Cat, just help me out." He glanced over at a body, Ron still laying on the dirt in pain, "I need to save him."

Reya threw her hood off and helped Warren to his feet. For a split moment, their eyes met. Reya blushed and supported him as he walked.

She lowered him, Warren resting a hand on Ron's c.h.e.s.t, "<Karma's Heal>"

For a moment, a small aura of golden light encased the brutish body of Ron, the man still as the Spell took affect.

For a moment, nothing happened. And Reya lowered her head in grief.

"Woah, what the hell?" Ron said as he slowly began to rise. "Where is he?"

Ron held his hand out and a curved iron dagger appeared in it. He leaped to his feet and swiftly turned toward Kill Joy's lifeless body.

"When did," he looked at Warren, "How did you guys defeat him, that Magic is almost impossible to beat?!"

Warren held his hand up, "Long story, but first we need to see if the rest are okay."

Ron still seemed confused as he pointed toward the Beetle. The group trudged over, to see that Arty, the coach driver had a small dagger in hand, his eyes wide as he saw Warren peer over.

"Oh, hello there."

To his left, Ann and Darius were curled up in a ball, trying there best not to be seen.

Ann glanced up to see Reya smiling, "Everything is okay, you can come out now."

Ann looked out toward the clearing, craters, burn marks, overturned trees, bodies, and blood thrown about. She looked at Warren who held his side, then to Ron who seemed to have taken a bath in blood.

Her eyes widened, "Where is my husband?"

All their hearts sunk. Ron quickly shielded her from Cargo's body, "He was injured in battle and..." he saw Darius glanced up, the boy showing emotion for the first time the whole trip. "We can talk later Ann."

She swallowed hard and nodded, "I understand."

Warren held his breathe, his eyes meeting with Lucy, she looked distraught. He could tell she felt it too, the fact that her previous owner was here.

That the Goddess of Misfortune had appeared.

Warren sent warm memories to her to calm her nerves, as he did a sudden urge for sleep washed over him.

Warren sighed, "I think I need to lie down for a -"

He fell to the wooden floor of the Beetle.
