Warren stepped foot outside the bakery, the once bustling streets of downtown High Castle disappearing as the few backs of figures turned the corner. It was as if the previous events had never happened.

It almost looked abandoned, the thought only dismissed by the few lanterns lit and pathetic dim light coming from open windows.

Warren looked down to see Lucy yawn, the cat seeming to not care that soon it would be night.

"Let's hurry up, I'm tired Master." She g.r.o.a.n.e.d as she hopped onto the cobblestone streets.

Warren rolled his eyes and started his way down the long empty road. On each side, a few vendors were still open, men in hoods watching as a potential customer sauntered by.

They most likely were selling the more, illegal items now that night fell, the hoods to hide their faces. Lucy looked to their left, a crooked smile coming from one man behind a red table.

"You look like you need a collar on that cat, I can get you a Magic one if you would liked." A raspy voice asked.

Warren nervously put his hands up, "Thanks but I don't plan on putting a collar on this cat anytime soon."

The man clicked his tongue, "Waste of breath."

The two furrowed their eyebrows and kept their gazes forward, they nodded at each other, agreeing that from now on they would talk through telepathy.

'So what do you think these guys are selling?' Lucy asked as they hurried their pace.

Warren shrugged and gazed toward a small dagger glowing with red aura, the item placed in front of a small old man with red eyes, "No idea but I guarantee this is like the black market."

Lucy questioned back, 'Black Market?'

Warren tried his best to explain it, 'Its like selling illegal stuff but in secret. Like a way to make illegal stuff seem safe.'

Lucy yawned again, 'Seems boring.'

Warren sighed, 'That dagger did not however, it looked so cool.'

Lucy scoffed, 'You're definition of cool is anything that's shiny.'

Warren crossed his arms, 'Oh shut up.'

The banter stopped as a door swung open, loud noises pouring onto the now dark street.

"You bitch I'm not that drunk!" A man fell face first out of the door, another man hurdling him in laughter.

"Look at ya' , you are as drunk as a golem now getcha a.s.s up."

The two laughed whole heartedly as they made their way onto the street. Another figure appeared at the door, this one belonging to a large woman in regular clothes. She sighed, watching as the two drunks made their way into an alley.

Warren glanced up, noticing the building was quite large, four or so stories accompanied by music and chants.

The woman noticed Warren staring, "You gonna come in boy or stand out in the night."

Warren smiled, "Ah sorry I'm looking for Begg's Inn."

The woman turned around and headed inside, as she did she spoke, "Well guess you live tonight because you just found it."

Lucy and Warren exchanged looks, both of them catching a glimpse of fancy letters painted just above the door.

They hesitated before deciding to go in, either way they needed somewhere to stay. Hopefully Reya had not lied to them, because as they walked in a hard smell of alcohol and moldy bread grasped their sense of smell.

Lucy gagged and Warren found himself grinning, a weird sensation of relief falling over him. The smell was quite familiar to him, as he spent most of his gambling days in places with way worst smells.

At the moment, the Mage took in everything, his eyes lighting up as he saw cards being shuffled and gold coins placed on a round table.

Before Lucy even took notice, Warren was inching toward the table of men with hardy beards.

Warren caught himself however, realizing now was not the time to get s.u.c.k.e.d in. Tomorrow was apparently the FIRST YEAR HUNT, and at the moment he had no money, water, or food. Well besides the basket Cynthia gave him.

All he had was the single gold coin.

But... he might be able to turn that into a lot more. A devilish face replaced his as he took another step. Lucy sighed and knew their was no stopping him.

The feline took the time to look around, a paw on her nose as she did. The open area seemed a lot like the bakery, tables placed about with chairs, except the quality had dipped down dramatically. Instead of an open space in seemed like a large hallway with open arches leading to more seating arrangements. There were at least forty men scattered about, some sipping on a dark liquid alone, while others had playing cards, or conversed loudly.

The woman who had talked to them outside had already disappeared, leaving Lucy alone with her addicted Master.

Warren on the other hand, came trudging back, a defeated look on his face, "I need at least two gold coins to play, apparently its High Stakes Night."

Warren fell to the floor in defeat, "Damn you!"

Even if he yelled, his complaint just mixed in with all the other jeers and shouts. Lucy sighed and karate chopped him, "This isn't the time, we need to find Reya or buy a room.

Warren yawned, sleep finally calling his name, "Fine, but I'm definitely coming back here, just from what I can tell those idiots have no idea what they are doing."

A short older woman came up to them, "Hello are you looking to gamble, drink, or just find a cozy bed."

Warren spoke, "To gam-."

He stopped as Lucy stared daggers, "Uh to find someone actually. Do you know if a Reya came by here by chance?"

The name rang out, a few men close to Warren grabbing swords. The lady who had greeted them suddenly had dark features. She grimaced, "And what business do you have with our beloved Reya?"

Warren stood up and dusted his pants off, "We traveled to High Castle together and she asked me to meet her here."

The lady reached behind her back, revealing she also had a small sharp weapon. Lucy finally noticed one striking detail.

The entire place was silent, as if they were awaiting Warren's next move. Even the guys who were gambling at the large table stood up. They were ready to fight.

Warren felt uneasy suddenly, like asking for Reya was a bad idea.

"Wait Momma!" There was the clack of b.a.r.e feet as a familiar faced came around the corner. It was Reya, here usually red hood replaced by an almost maid type outfit. From Warren's guess she must work here.

Her face was as beautiful as ever, and as she locked eyes with Warren, she looked away.

She put a hand up to block her face, "Um, they are good friends of mine so don't worry."

The men who had readied themselves to kill had sighed heavily. The apparent, "Momma" also pocketing her dagger,

"Sorry about that sweetie, we thought you wanted to hurt Reya."

Warren laughed nervously, "Of course not..."

Momma patted him on the back, "We are all familiar faces around here, this place is her home and any one she welcomes."

She kissed Warren on the forehead, "So what's your name sweetie?"

Lucy finally relaxed and Warren spoke softly, "Warren."

Everyone rose their mugs of beer, "To Warren!"

They downed the liquid and the once tense air had finally died down. Momma cackled and motioned toward Reya, "Well if you need a place to stay, Reya just finished her shift."

Reya kept her head down, not daring to look at Warren, "If you want I can show you around."

Lucy yawned again on purpose, as if to say they would rather not.

Momma glanced down at Lucy with confusion, as if she just barley noticed she was there.

Reya nodded, "Okay then follow me..."

She quickly turned and headed toward an open arch. Warren still stood idle, unsure of what to do.

Momma pushed him forward, "Don't keep a woman waiting." She winked at him and headed toward a group of men raising their mugs for a refill.

Warren hurried along, entering the archway which Reya had fled too. To his surprise, the room seemed a lot more kept and tidy. There was a desk even, a dark skinned woman sitting behind it, flipping through a magazine.

She also chewed on something loudly, her dark skin glistening from the lantern light. She turned toward Warren, her features actually quite beautiful and stern.

"So you were the person that was about to get killed by Momma and everyone," she snickered, "Glad you didn't, you seem like a nice meal."

Warren nodded, "Thanks?"

Reya appeared through curtains, her outift replaced by the familiar red hood she usually wore. She even had the hood on, her black hair the only thing visible.

Warren annoyingly watched, the shtick getting old fast.

"Stop hitting on him Elsa."

Elsa rolled her eyes, "Why, I haven't had me someone so young in a long time," the black woman smirked as she looked Warren up and down, "Or is he yours?"

Reya pulled her hood further down, "No he is a friend."

Elsa countered back, "You? Having a friend, impossible."

Warren chimed in, "We are actually."

Elsa froze, as if Warren had struck her with a hammer. The girl turned toward her magazine, "Guess shy old Reya finally caught a big fish."

Reya squatted down and rummaged through a row of cupboards, her frantic search leaving Warren to stand their awkwardly. Lucy had finally turned the corner, her eyes reading how awkward Warren felt.

Reya turned toward Elsa, "Where are the room keys, we should have at least two more."

Elsa shrugged, "If I'm correct we are all booked tonight."

Reya seem to frown, "So there are no open rooms?"

Elsa started to chew again, "Sure sounds like it plum."

Warren nervously laughed, "I can always find another inn, I'm sur-"

Reya shook her head, "It's fine, you can use my room for tonight, it's the least I could do for you saving my life."

Warren thanked her, forgetting that he did indeed save her from being split in half. Lucy sighed, glad they would finally have a place to stay.

Elsa grinned, "Well either show him to your room or kiss already, jeez."

Warren could faintly see Reya's face, her pale cheeks turning red, "This way..."

Warren was once again led toward the curtains, two flights of stairs going up toward a hallway of rooms that overlooked them. There was at least eight or so, most likely were the workers stayed.

Lucy happily hopped up next to Reya, purring as she reached down and petted her. The instant they touched a link was formed.

'So how do you guys like High Castle Lucy?'

Lucy was stunned for a second, but quickly continued like normal, speaking within their minds.

'Honestly we hate it, Warren seems to get stupider and the First Year Hunt starts tomorrow. I'm just scared something bad will happen.'

Reya giggled, Warren raising an eyebrow, unaware that his familiar was chatting up Reya.

The hooded girl spoke again, 'Sounds like the next few days are going to be something, I can't even understand what this so called hunt means.'

Lucy sighed as they stepped foot on the second floor, 'Trust me, we don't either. At the moment we are just going with the flow, hell we even got robbed.'

Lucy paused for a second, 'Well my Master did.'

Warren looked around the formal and clean house, as if this was his first time truly experiencing a second story in this world. Even though he had seen mansions upon mansions, nothing compared the architecture that the building had. Though it was simple, there was a subtle beauty about the medieval esc work.

Reya glanced back at him, her eyes meeting his as he surveyed the area. She quickly looked away, wondering why that she always met gazes with him.

And the thoughts she could see.

It was Warren and Reya, both of them sitting on a bench overlooking rolling hills of green. But, in the distance loomed huge single pillars of stone, glass holes drilled into the sides.

Reya knew Warren was lying about his identity, she even knew that he did not come from Ara Village, but a strange land. But Reya kept to herself, the images quite peaceful.

Lucy yawned, 'So which room is it?'

Reya focused away from his thoughts and stood in front of door with a purple tinge. A small three engraved into the wood.

She hesitated, wondering if she even cleaned it before coming down stairs. She turned toward the two, "Um, give me a second."

She disappeared into the room, a loud bang ringing out as Warren and Lucy exchanged looks. There were more shuffling noises before the door slowly swung open.

Reya was breathing hard from exhaustion, through her breathe she motioned for them to come in. Lucy happily trotted in, on the other hand Warren hesitated. In a sense, this was the first time he would see a girl's room, well, in another world.

The Mage peered inside, the small room actually nothing special. Wood floors with a circle carpet under a basic desk. An actual large bed set against a corner, and a small dresser beside it.

Reya hurried to the closet, a pile of clothes visible for a split second before she shut it. A long sigh came from her, and after a few seconds the trio realized it.

What now?

Lucy broke the silence, "So do you work here Reya?"

The girl cleared her throat and scrambled to close the door behind Warren,

"Yes, for the last few years actually." She bowed, "I apologize for Momma, she is very protective."

Warren plopped on the bed with out another second to spare, "Don't worry, I could of taken them anyways."

Lucy snickered, "I already had my spell ready too."

Reya chuckled slightly, "You two really are something."

Warren sat up and smiled at Lucy, the two agreeing that they were far from normal. Warren scrambled his blonde hair, "But anyways, where are you gonna sleep?"

Reya thought for a moment, "I will sleep with Elsa, I'm sure she won't mind."

Warren nodded, "Thank you Reya, for everything."

The tension died as he spoke, a warm sense of relief falling over them. The two had experienced some very rare scenarios, especially since the two barley even knew each other. But even so, they had shared a kiss, one that was due to perfect circ.u.mstances.

Although, neither of them regretted it, and as Reya peered into Warren's mind, she felt his lips again. As if she was reliving it.

She blushed and pried herself from his mind. It was a habit she needed to break, despite the fact she wouldn't mind looking again. For Reya, it was the first time she had honestly felt anything toward a male.

Since her Magic was somewhat of a curse, men's thoughts had always been the hardest for her to b.a.r.e. However, Warren had not once thought of anything dirty since the moment they locked eyes, and even lips.

He was...special.

A person whose emotions were out on display with no regret, so pure that Reya found herself getting attached. Attached to the boy sitting on her bed. Her mind fractured, the thought that she might like such a mysterious boy making her heart jump.

Who exactly was Warren Alister?

Reya looked up at him, her eyes piercing into him, "Why did you hide your name?"

The air grew cold, and Lucy immediately made her way under the bed, knowing she did not want to be part of that conversation.

Reya's eyes were cold, taking the same feel that she had shown Warren before.

Hostility.

Warren sighed and stood up.

Reya reached to her pocket, ready for anything.

Warren removed his jacket, tossing it on the bed. And soon, he was unbuttoning his shirt.

Reya put her hand up, "Wait what the hell are you doing?!"

Warren revealed his body, hardened muscles and scars strung across his frame. His skin pale yet tough, accompanied by a small glow of gold illuminating him.

Reya could not look, but as she came to, her gaze fell on Warren's family seal.

She held her breathe, the words of her Father reaching her mind.

.

.

.

"The Four Gambit Trade houses, a way of saying they were Royalty above royalty. In a sense, as close as one could get to the king. The house of Hearts, Spades, Clubs, and Diamonds. Although the families were killed off with the rise of the Grizwal kingdom."

.

.

.

Warren buttoned his shirt back up, knowing just from her look that she knew exactly what he was. A Burden Family Member. A Blood line of royalty, but no power.

Reya stayed silent as Warren sat back down, his face yearning for an answer.

"Woah, that's."

Warren chuckled, "Yeah, crazy am I right. The son of a family that should be long gone is hard to swallow. Also the fact that I'm not dead yet is amazing, or even the fact I even was able to keep people from noticing for so long."

Reya shook her head, "The kingdom wouldn't kill you out of cold blood, only if..."

Warren finished, "Only if I become powerful. The second they think I might lead a rebellion its over."

Reya laughed aloud, the serious face she once donned gone with the wind, "That's why you are so," she gestured toward him, "You. I mean your Magic is."

She stopped, "Wait the house of Hearts is a bloodline of Mages who use magic related to speed. Why are you so different?"

Well he WAS from another world.

Warren shrugged, "No idea, guess I'm just that special."

Lucy poked her head out and chimed in, "Special Ed."

Warren kicked the cat back under the bed, the corners of his mouth rising up, "Well Reya, now that you know my secret, why not tell me yours."

Reya froze, the question seemingly striking a nerve.

Warren quickly retracted his statement, "Unless you don't want to."

She shook her head, "Ah no, its fine."

Reya pulled her hood back, her beautiful young face almost as red as a tomato. She bowed, "I am Reya Rose, the daughter of Professor Rose, the Familiar Studies teacher at King Academy. I live here in High Castle and usually go to Ara Village to see my grandma."

Warren grinned, "Ohhh, you're dad is a teacher, laaaaame."

The duo laughed together, and after a while Reya came and sat next to Warren, her hood still at her back, "But me and my dad don't get along, so I ran away and ended up here with Momma. He doesn't even know I'm alive."

The lump of information hung in the air.

Warren swallowed hard, "Oh..."

She rolled her eyes, "Don't lose your goofy smile because of that. I'm sure you understand parents being how they are, forcing their ideals on you."

Warren nodded in agreement, "Agreed 100%."

Reya looked down at her palms, "But once I make it to King Academy, he can't stop me from becoming a Battle Mage."

There was a long pause, "But why do you want to be a Battle Mage, especially now that we are at war." Warren asked.

Reya laid out, her legs not even long enough to reach the end of the bed, "Because my mother was, and since she."

Warren waited patiently.

"Well ever since I found out she died in battle I wanted to be one, I can't really explain it either."

Warren joined her laying down, a few inches between them. She turned to him, "What about you?"

Warren thumbed his chin, "Well I just want to test my luck and make memories, nothing more."

Reya blew air out of her nose, "Yeah, you are a weirdo."

Warren rolled his eyes, "Simple is good you know, at least I don't like want revenge on someone or anything overused like that."

Reya and Warren turned to look at each other, the two laughing some more before gazing toward the ceiling.

Warren spoke, "Well I should go to bed, its best if we get rest."

Lucy also spoke from under the bed, "Yeah for f.u.c.k's sake."

Reya thought about getting up, but for a moment she did not catch herself, and soon she said one the dumbest things,

"I was lying about Elsa, she won't let me sleep with her."

Warren scoffed, "Then where are you going to sleep then?!"

Reya shrugged, "I was thinking about behind the desk downstairs..."

Warren sat up, "Then, um, why not sleep in here with me."

Reya sat up to, the words making here almost die from shock.

"I uh, I-I." She could not form words.

Warren put his hand up, "Look, I refuse to let you sleep behind a desk, and I don't see any covers so I can sleep on the floor so..." he put his pinky up, "I promise I won't do something weird, trust me."

Reya looked at his thoughts once again, Warren thinking about gambling down stairs. She giggled and nodded, "Fine."

"Then pinky promise."

Reya c.o.c.ked her head, "What?"

Warren almost forgot, this was not Earth, stuff like this was probably foreign to anyone here on Azura. But despite that he grabbed her hand,

"Its a promise you can never break, you lock pinkies and shake. Its like a tradition from where I come from."

The girl stared at him, her heart churning as her small pinky was put up. Their fingers were clasped together, a spark or energy connecting their Fey for a second.

Reya smiled, as if what she did was exhilarating, but she did everything in her power to keep her cool.

Warren awkwardly pulled away, a silence that had come often swallowing them up. Warren bit his lip,

"Well...goodnight then?"

Reya took the side toward the door while Warren found himself with his back against the wall. Luckily they had two pillows and there was about four inches between them.

The space becoming like and iron wall, Reya facing away, her heart racing like crazy. Why did she do it? Why did she say yes?

But more importantly, why did she form a link when they touched?!

At the moment, Reya had her Spell activated, and could hear all of Warren's thoughts now.
