The Luckiest Mage Should Have A Harem

Chapter 4 - Prepare for the Mage Trials Part 1

Warren stopped his fit and hugged his sister tight one last time, "Sorry I don't know what came over me..."

Citrus grinned, "It's okay, I would cry if I lost as much as you do."

Warren wiped away his tears and weakly punched his sister, he was just glad he had found a way to win again.

He nodded, maybe his luck streak would not end anytime soon, even if a God had anything to say about it.

Then the ground shook with force, and a low hiss came from within the forest. It seemed Warren had to deal with one last thing before he could truly be safe.

Citrus quickly pushed Warren behind her, her eyes watching as bushes began to be thrust aside. Her face went cold as the Goddess of Misfortune entered the clearing. The huge black cat watching both of them carefully.

Citrus could not believe it, and she was ready to use to get both of them out of there, this was for sure a battle neither of them could win.

However, Warren removed his sister's hand and sauntered toward the cat.

"Warren wa-" Citrus cried out, but before she could move to stop him, the huge jaws of the cat opened wide and came crashing down toward Warren's head.

She held her breathe, unable to use her Spell in time.

Warren began to laugh as the huge cat slowly licked his face.

"Huh?!" Citrus collapsed to her knees, her entire body shaking as she almost witnessed the death of her brother.

The Cat meowed and sat on its rear, c.o.c.king its head at her. She grimly smirked in confusion as Warren began to pet the giant feline.

"Oh yeah Citrus meet my new friend."

Warren glanced at the cat, knowing full well that he made the right choice. In the seconds he had been thrown back into time, he wished for one more thing.

He wished that Lucy's vessel would become his contracted slave. That forced the Goddess' body back to wherever she had came, leaving the confused body of a normal giant cat.

In an odd sense of things, Warren had made a very powerful ally. Someone who could directly affect misfortune.

Lucy turned to her owner, 'You are my master correct?'

Warren heard the feminine voice in his head, it seemed telepathy was a side effect of having her.

He grinned ear to ear, 'Indeed I am, the name is Warren Gambit.'

Lucy bowed her head, 'What shall be my name Young Master?'

Warren thumbed his chin, he glanced at his sister Citrus who was still on edge.

"Her name is Lucy, she is my contracted Beast." Warren said proudly.

Citrus was still stuck in awe, "When did you contract a Beast, that should only be possible if you formed your Base?!"

Warren blinked a few times and looked down at his feeble body. He noticed it, a strange sensation flowing through him. It was indeed Fey, something he could only barley grasp.

It was like a river was flowing through him, although it was small and had little force, it was calming as it made its way across his soul.

"Yeah, you are right...."

Citrus reached in her pocket, pulling out a red square crystal. It was Her Codex Crystal, the thing that allowed her to see her status.

She scrambled forward and pressed the ruby against Warren's c.h.e.s.t. The boy blinked a few times as nothing happened but after a few seconds, a transparent grey slate appeared before them.

Warren held his breath, the words before him amazing. It was just like a video game and Warren suddenly got excited. In his old life, it was very rare that he had time to play video games. Most of his time went to finding his next meal and gambling.

The screen was just like any Isekai trope, the thing he had heard his classmates talk about before he had dropped out. Citrus was also in pure shock.

It was unheard of for someone so young to form a Base, and Lucy seemed slightly amused. She was already liking her Master and just by being next to him she could feel his energy.

Someone who was not afraid of anything.

"So does this mean I am a prodigy?" Warren asked with an accomplished grin.

Citrus rolled her eyes and pulled the crystal away, "It means your more than a prodigy." She sighed and sat criss-crossed. "More importantly how do we explain all of this to Mom an Dad?"

Warren suddenly froze, the idea of explaining that Warren had formed a Base two years in advance and suddenly contracted a Magical Beast that was easily on par with a Royal Knight filling his head.

Warren kept his grin and shrugged, "I have no clue, I'm only five after all."

Citrus karate chopped her brother, "Shut up freak, we both know you might as well be my age."

Warren looked at his sister, and before they knew it they were laughing. Lucy however, really had no idea what was going on. Just before this she was in complete darkness, as if she was not even alive.

Then suddenly a bright light had engulfed everything, and for the first time in her five hundred years of being "alive", she had opened her eyes to the calm nature of the forest.

In her ear, she heard the cry of a small child and without hesitation ran full speed to the noise. Before her two small human children were hugging one another.

In her unwillingness to come, Lucy noticed that the boy seemed important, as if she must do everything to protect the child.

She glanced around, still not sure where she was, but as she saw her Master laughing happily, she couldn't help but sigh.

Her life was shaping up to be something greater than the darkness she was once filled with. A new one, one of light and joy.

As she realized this within her conscious, her giant body began to shrink. Warren and Citrus turned to the cat, and before they knew it Lucy was now a kitten sleeping soundly.

"So is that normal?" Warren asked pointing at Lucy.

Citrus wiped a fake tear away and picked herself up, "No idea, but it fits you well."

Warren stared at his sister, "Why?"

His sister yawned and dusted herself off, "Because it's just as weird as you."

Warren winced by her blow and quickly stuck his hand out to tag her. This entire time he was waiting for the moment.

She wagged her finger and disappeared without a trace. Warren g.r.o.a.n.e.d and slowly scooped up Lucy, the cat fast asleep and unaffected by Warren's touch.

"You got lucky, I was trying not to wake Lucy!" Warren called out before grumpily accepting defeat. No way was he going to catch his freakishly fast sister.

After walking back to the outskirts of the small village. He gawked back at the sun high in the blue sky. Past the forest, mountains upon mountains stretched across the horizon. A low cold wind brushed past him, his mind calming.

He was sure of it now, he would live his best life in this world, never struggle for a meal, make as many friend as possible, ascend through the ranks of a Mage, and finally meet his Mother.

To understand why she loved their Father so much, and why she never returned on that day? Why she had died from exhaustion in the middle of nowhere? Why his Mother had told him she would meet him in the great battle?

'Whatever that meant', thought Warren.

Citrus appeared behind Warren, "Boo!"

Warren jumped and Lucy hissed in frustration. Citrus giggled and sprinted down the pathway leading into Ara Village.

Warren angrily chased after her, Lucy also furious she was disturbed.

-11 years later-

.

.

The entire forest went silent, the once flourishing life completely void as the slow hum of a fire crackled.

The sound grew louder as the creak of scales mixed in with the unsettling scent of ash. The burnt smell reached out to tingle the nose a young boy sitting in wait.

The boy was covered in dirt, even through the smeared earth one could tell he was quite handsome. As the wind carried the foul smell closer, the golden locks wildly moved aside, revealing the bright sky blue eyes of Warren.

He was crouched in secret, his mind honed in as he noted the few snaps of wood in the distant. He smiled and rubbed the rabbit's foot he had chained to his leather vest. The act of good luck helping him realizing what he was doing.

He was hunting a wyvern, the dragon-like creature burning crops of the nearby villages. To his dismay, Ara his home Village had lost a good share to the beast, the only effort to kill the animal futile.

That it when his Father was called upon, only to refuse the ply for help. He instead gave it to his sixteen year old son. Warren angrily cursed his old man, thinking he could be mastering a new Spell instead of taking out an overgrown lizard.

The Mage Trials were in a week, he needed to prepare for what was to come, not hunt in his Father's place.

Warren scrambled his blonde hair, his mind wondering back to his training. At the moment, he was thinking of a way to maximize his power.

*DRMMMMMMM*

Warren immediately stopped his fit as he heard the unnatural flap of wings. It was close, and from the stench alone he could tell that Lucy was doing her job well.

It was a simple one after all. Stalk the Wyvern for three days, when it finally slept, take out a wing. Warren nodded, knowing full and well his partner had definitely done so. If not, it would practically be impossible for Warren to kill the beast.

He had almost zero ranged attacks.

The boy sighed and continued his prolonged wait. Even if he had no idea when the beast would appear, he readied his now long muscular arms, the intense training under his Father paying off.

On closer inspection, one could see Warren was a force to be reckon with, his tall and broad shoulders making him look strong.

He grinned as he heard the familiar scream of his contracted Beast. Lucy was indeed running full speed toward him. He could feel her presence and her emotion, the cat showing signs of hopelessness.

From what he could tell, things were not good. He brought his index finger up to his forehead, 'Everything alright Lucy?' He said through telepathy.

Lucy quickly answered back, 'FUUUUUUCK ITS FLYING, ITS F.U.C.K.I.N.G FLYING!!!! HELLLP!!!'

Warren exhaled and face palmed, what else would he expect from Lucy. She was once the vessel for the Goddess of Misfortune, her Magic allowing her to affect other's Luck. Sometimes though, she would miss fire the awkward Magic which would cause things to go haywire and spiral beyond any semblance of control. It was something that had almost killed them multiple times.

Warren left his hiding spot and rushed forward with amazing speed. He was quick on his feet, and before he could even get his bearings to fight, Lucy came blasting out of a nearby bush. The half grown black cat squealing for help.

Warren caught her, well with his face, the duo crashing onto the floor in a heap. Through curse words and animosity, the two stood up in a hurry.

To no one's surprise, the heavy body of the Dragon whooshed past them with brutal force. Just from the wings flapping, Warren was pushed to a crouch. The wyvern then rose above them, watching his new found prey.

'Damnit what the hell Lucy?!' Warren yelled in his head. He glared back at the female cat.

The cat laughed and put a paw out, ' We will be fine, as long as it doesn't use its fire b-'

They both stopped the conversation in their head and glared upwards. They had felt the strong gathering of Fey.

Above them, the grey ten meter long wyvern started to glow with red light. It was about to use a Spell, and from what the villagers had reported, it was . A Spell that could melt even metal swords.

'Shit, go hide Lucy I'll take it.' Warren commanded in his head.

Lucy was already gone, the feline hidden away in a bush meters away, 'Roger that'.

Warren honestly wanted to turn around and kill the cat himself, but he would never get the chance if the wyvern killed both of them first. Warren could not wait to get ahold of Lucy.

Suddenly the trees finally gave way and snapped, making a clear shot for the Beast to fire at Warren. The wind force given off by the creature pushing him farther to the floor, its long scaly snout opening, the creature seeming to smile.

The situation called for one thing, Warren would need to use his Base.

Risk and Reward, the name given to his Magic. It was a simple Magic after all, the more Risk Warren set with his Spells, the more Reward he would get.

Warren calmed himself as he felt the heat coming from the Beast, the air making him sweat bullets already.

With a single hot breath, he spoke his Spell's name.

""

-----

Divine Judgement- A spell that has the -Risk- of the attacker's spell to be amplified x2. Or the -Reward- of the Spell being reflected back with x3 power.

-----

Warren grinned ear to ear, it was now up to luck alone. It was the cruel reality of how his Magic worked, their was always a chance of it backfiring and at the moment, Warren would easily burn if he was hit by whatever was to come.

He put his hand out facing the Dragon. A Golden aura of light encased around his opened palm, the light forming a shield of sorts as it arced across Warren's body.

"Come get me you overgrown Lizard!" Warren yelled with excitement. He was truly insane.

The Wyvern heaved a heavy breath, a pile of smoke exploding from its nostrils. The red slits of its eyes aiming at Warren with hunger.

Before Warren had a chance to taunt the beast again, a thick stream of fire came crashing downward with immense force. Even before Warren was hit by the intense blast, his feet were moved a few inches back.

He gritted his teeth, the heat coming off from the blast dancing across Warren's skin threatening to burn him to a crisp.

Lucy watched in awe as the wall of fire collided with Warren's golden shield, the impact blowing away any foliage that was surrounding them. The ground shaking with immense force.

Just as the blazing fire hit, the flames were skyrocketed back with three times the power. The power alone making Lucy hold her breath, the almost epic battle ceasing to exist within the span of a few seconds.

The wyvern noticed the backfire, its red pupils widening in fear as it saw the fire change color. It was now blue, the flames indeed three times hotter than what it originally was.

The wyvern would not survive it.

Warren laughed aloud as he saw his handy work, the cloth around his upper half almost completely burnt away.

The burning body of the dragon fell limp, the smell and sound of crumbling scales masking the roar as it hit the ground with an unpleasant thud.

Lucy and Warren sat in silence as the sizzling of the Beast's body finally died out. They had somehow pulled off killing a Rank C Magical Beast, well more so Warren. But alas, they both put a limb in the air and shouted with joy.

Warren loved the excitement of almost losing his life and his emotions had piled into the small body of his contracted Beast. The two even did a small dance to commemorate their victory.

For a sixteen year old, it was almost unseen to kill a Rank C Magical Beast, let alone by one's self. Warren was indeed a freak of nature, his Magic reflecting his craze for a chance test his luck.

Most would hate such a Magic Base but for Warren, it was perfect.

Although they had won, Warren had yet to realize the damage he had sustained, both physically and financially.

His right arm was raw and blisters had already began to form, for financial damages, he had lost his upper cloth and the silver sword at his side had become dis-formed and skewered. The heat had done more than Warren could even realize.

Once again he had gotten lucky that he could heal in time for the Mage Trials. It would be impossible to pass being injured.

Lucy yawned and trotted over, "Nice job Master, I knew you could do it."

Warren's face went cold, "Ah, now, can you explain to me what exactly happened?"

Lucy avoided eye contact, "Well I missed my Magic and hit a fish that was in the river and um, the wyvern woke up and chased me and um..."

Warren bent down and grasped the head of Lucy, "I would kill you if you weren't useful."

He squeezed hard and Lucy felt jolts of pain, "I'm SOOOOWWWWYYY."

Warren let go and patted her on the head, "Although, I know you tried and that's all that matters."

Lucy teared up as she saw her m.a.t.u.r.ed Master sigh and stretch, "Now, its time to turn in this bounty."

Lucy agreed, "Let's!"

Warren stalked over the body of the wyvern, the foul stench not affecting him at all. On the other hand, Lucy had put a paw on her nose.

"So what's the plan for the Mage Trials?" Lucy asked with a nasally voice.

Warren bent down and removed his sword. He wanted to cry, he had spent a gold coin on the sword just for the Mage Trials. Now, the blade was practically useless.

Choking back the urge to let his tears go, he spoke, "Train, train, and train."

Lucy watched as Warren picked away the burnt leather sheath and revealed the swords blade, "Isn't that quite boring?"

Her master slowly cut a sharp claw off the wyvern, "Yeah I know, but to assure I get into the best academies I need to be in the top one hundred.

Lucy poked the sizzling tail of the dragon, "How many people take it, I mean shouldn't that be easy?"

Warren rolled his eyes, "You ask so many questions you know that"

he pocketed the claw and examined more of the body, "But if you really must know, there are two thousand applicants and usually more than half of them fail. Every Academy only allows twenty first years, meaning if I want to make a top Academy I need to at least make it to the top one hundred."

Lucy nodded, "Sounds fun!"

Warren shook his head, "Slow your roll, you won't be competing, there are no contracted Beast allowed."

Lucy's face went bleak, "Whaaaaaat."

Warren grabbed the silver blade and chunked it into the forest's unknown, the sword clattering down a hill, "It's because technically we take a class our first year for that, it's like I'm cheating if I bring something now that we are going to get later on."

Lucy sat on her belly and hit the ground in anger, "That's not fair, I wanna battle some Beasts!"

"Well we might not just fight Beasts." Warren looked up at the setting sun. It was true, from what he heard from his Father, they usually do a tournament to decide the top ten.

Warren shivered, realizing he might be going through a tournament arc so soon, they usually were an important part of deciding who the strong are and in the few anime he watched, the MC struggled immensely. For Warren, he did not want to struggle too much, especially against women. The third wish he had from Karma still at play.

He swallowed hard, wondering how many could fight on par with him. More so, was he even on the level of most Mages, all he could go off of was Citrus, but the last three years she had been at King Academy, the number one school for Mages.

Followed By Queen, North point, Dragon Keep, Garden, and SummerSet in prowess. Those six were the power houses for Mages to attend, seeing the results of King produce SSS ranked Mages time and time again.

Warren could not imagine it, Mages capable of fighting entire armies on their own. Well, the country was at war after all.

"Ahhh, why can't they just see I am a protagonist and let me through?." Warren w.h.i.n.ed as he laid on the dirt. He had not realized how tired he was.

Lucy laid next to him, "Well if you are an MC you are pretty shitty. I mean who gets off to almost dying?"

Warren glared at Lucy, "Watch it Cat, you are already on thin ice."

Lucy nodded, "Yes Master..."

Warren looked back toward the sunset, the earth beneath him actually quite soft.

"I just want to see you Mother." He whispered.

Lucy of course heard him, and from what she could tell, Warren's final goal was to see this woman he called Mother. The one who gave birth to him named Mom. Lucy had noticed how he refused to call her anything else.

Lucy sighed, it seemed her Master was quite complicated. She turned to see him soundly asleep a trickle of drool falling out of his open mouth. Indeed, she still knew very little.
