“Shuyan, I made a cup of warm milk for you, it might be a little hot. Have it before you go to bed.” Shen Qingruo smiled and gently continued, “You’ll be able to sleep better if you have milk before bed. I know that you dislike milk, so I added some honey inside. It’s sweet.”

She could only think of this method to comfort the frightened child.

Milk helps with sleep.

Perhaps the child would forget about whatever that had happened after a good night’s sleep.

Luo Shuyan was touched.

Eventhough they were neighbors and her father paid Aunty Shen to settle her three meals, she could still feel Aunty Shen’s love towards her. Plus, Shen Yan purposely went to buy sausages for her because he was worried that she would be hungry.

How was she so lucky!

She was going to be moved to tears.

Shen Qingruo noticed that Luo Shuyan had already washed up and changed into her sleeping gown. She glanced at the stack of books on the livingroom table and said, “It’s quite late now, Shuyan, you should go to sleep earlier. You can let Shen Yan continue with his explanations tomorrow.”

It’d been a lie after all, so Luo Shuyan naturally didn’t have any objections. “Sure.”

Shen Qingruo asked, “Since your dad isn’t home yet, shall I accompany you till you fall asleep?”

“No, no. There’s no need!”

Luo Shuyan managed to persuade Shen Qingruo to head home with Shen Yan.

Luo Shuyan held the warm cup of milk and remembered that she had fried sausages in the cupboard. She smirked before finishing the milk and sausages. Subsequently, she brushed her teeth and went to bed.

Luo Shuyan was mindful to not think about today’s incident and perhaps the milk did its job, because she was able to fall into deep slumber within minutes.

Luo Tianyuan had been busy over the past two days due to the major decision that he’d made. He reached home at night around 9 to 10 o’clock. Shen Qingruo heard the sound of his return and opened the door. Luo Tianyuan turned to look at her, perplexed. “Haven’t you gone to sleep? It’s quite late now.”

Ning City night life wasn’t as interesting as that of Jing City. Most people went to sleep after watching whatever that was airing during the prime timeslot on TV. The area was usually dark when Luo Tianyuan came back after working overtime. Thus, he was quite surprised to see Shen Qingruo awake at this hour.

Shen Qingruo was visibly tired. “I’m going to bed soon. There’s something I have to talk to you about.”

She was close to passing out, however, she wanted to wait till Luo Tianyuan was back so that she could inform him about today’s incident.

Luo Tianyuan curiously asked, “What’s up?”

Shen Qingruo’s expression turned serious. “Today afternoon, someone jumped off the building near the dorms, and Shuyan and her friend happened to walk pass when it happened…”

Luo Tianyuan was startled. He frowned. “How’s Shuyan?”

“She’s in shock and didn’t eat much during dinner. She’s gone to bed early, and I gave her some milk before bed. I’m not sure if she would be able to sleep well.” Shen Qingruo paused before continuing, “You should bring her to the hospital if she looks unwell tomorrow.”

Shen Qingruo knew that there were certain things that could scar the child emotionally if the adults didn’t take immediate action to address it.

It was truly heartbreaking to see such a young child witness something way beyond her limit.

She knew that Luo Tianyuan was a good father, but she was worried that he wasn’t detailed enough to notice these little things. That was why she decided to remind him.

Luo Tianyuan pinched his nose bridge. He was worried about his daughter. He nodded and said, “Alright, thank you. I’ll go in and take a look at her.”

Luo Tianyuan stopped outside his daughter’s room. To allow his daughter to have a better understanding about the difference between genders, he had stopped going into her room from the year before.

He contemplated for a moment before gently pushing the door open. To moonlight lit the room, and he could see his daughter fast asleep. He felt relieved at the sight of this.

After quite some time, he left the room. After he bathed and was about to head back to his room, he still felt worried about his daughter. He went to the storeroom, took out a foldable mattress, and slept outside his daughter’s room.

That way, he would be able to know if she were to have a nightmare, and would be able to comfort her in time.

It wasn’t easy to raise a child; his job wasn’t merely to ensure that she had food to eat and a roof over her head.

Luo Tianyuan recalled his daughter frequently falling ill before she turned 3. She often suffered from high fevers that didn’t go down for a long time. He hated himself whenever he saw her frail body suffering, and wondered why couldn’t he be the one to take her suffering upon himself.

The more he thought about it, the more his heart clenched for his young daughter.

He only managed to fall asleep at 1 o’clock in the morning.

Luo Shuyan had a very deep sleep. She generally didn’t have dreams while sleeping, however, she had one tonight.

The internal clock of primary school children were very accurate. Before the clock struck 7, Luo Shuyan woke up from her dream and stared blankly at the ceiling.

She’d had dreams in the past, but she’d usually forget about what she’d dreamt about when she woke up. However, this time round, she wasn’t sure why, but she could still clearly remember what she’d dreamt about.

Her dream revolved around the life of a male protagonist from a novel. She wasn’t very sure but she supposed that it was a novel where the protagonist always had the upper hand in life. The male lead went from a poor university student to one of the richest men in the country. He also had countless women in his life, and was an absolute winner in life.

The novel was extremely long, and was split into the first and second book.

Of course, none of that was important. The crucial takeaway was that the male protagonist was also called Luo Tianyuan, and he had a daughter named Luo Shuyan, who passed away in an accident in the second book…
