The Maniacal General With His Crazy System

Chapter 76 - Approval and Disapproval

Averill stood there silently as he gazed at Spectre and the other clones as he slowly raised one eyebrow up with a smirk on his face.

Seconds passed by, but absolutely nothing changed. No matter how much Spectre tried to steal Averill's powers, he was blocked from doing so for some reason. The more Spectre tried, the more his face altered to a deep frown.

"Are you done trying?" Averill asked in a soothing voice, but even before Spectre could fully comprehend what he said, Averill had already began moving towards one of the other clones that was close to him. Averill stepped forward which sent him face to face to the clone whose eyes went wide open as Averill pointed his gun and shot him between his eyes.

But that wasn't everything Averill did, as he shot his gun, he used his rapier to pierce his stomach as he destroyed the clone from within. Averill's smirk didn't vanish as he felt the other clones being right behind him, trying to attack him. Averill stepped to the side as he dodged a large sword dropping down on his previous location, he leaned his head to the right as a foot came like a bullet towards his face.

Averill pretty much danced between each of the attacks that came his path without any difficulties. It was only after ten or so attacks, that Averill stood still and allowed a punch to hit his c.h.e.s.t.

And just like something hitting something hard, only a dull *thump* sound could be heard as Spectre had managed to hit the body of Averill. The force behind of Spectre which had managed to overpower Saitama wasn't able to injure a single cell on Averill's body.

The clone that had just managed to hit Averill's body only managed to stand still, he could feel that his arm broke the moment he hit Averill. And when he gazed into Averill's eyes, he felt scared for the first time in his life before he saw the barrel of a gun appearing in front of his eyes before he saw a flash of light before his eyes turned dark…

Averill had quite easily killed three of the seven clones that Spectre had brought along. Averill managed to conclude that the clones were way weaker than him, in speed, strength and endurance, Averill has yet to test out his Divine Powers in full strength against Spectre, but the little he was using had been able to completely destroy the clones into nothingness.

"You are too weak." Averill shook his head slowly as he spoke in a slightly disappointed tone with hints of mockery in it. Averill had known that he would get stronger for every second he was breathing, yet he didn't know how strong he had gotten till he now fought Spectre. If he had to fight Spectre the time he just woke up in the other Universe, he would have it difficult to fight against seven clones of Spectre, yet now he was able to easily kill them without straining himself.

And just like a volcano, the black and green aura inside of aura exploded outwards as it annihilated everything in its path. The clones of Spectre weren't even able to respond properly before their body turned into dust and moments later, nothing.

[Host has accomplished the mission to kill all of Spectre's clones. All of the abilities that the clones of Spectre used will now be available for Host to use.] The System gave a quick comment about Averill finishing his rather simple mission.

Yet that didn't stop the aura of Averill from bursting outwards, it spread faster than the speed of light and destroyed the fake reality that Spectre had created that was as huge as a couple galaxies. And a dozen or so seconds later, the fake reality collapsed on itself and Averill appeared in the living room of his home.

Averill stood there, gazing at the four people in the room, three of them were sitting on the couch and the last one was standing. Saitama, Harleen and Jack were sitting on the couch with disbelief apparent on their faces. And Laura was standing not too far away, her solemn expression was slightly vacant, but her fists were clenched tightly to the point her skin turned white due to the pressure.

The smirk had vanished on Averill's face as his usual weird smile came back. Even if Averill's eyes were rather sharp, his gaze which was warmer this time around gazed at Laura first. "Laura, your progress has been good, continue like that, it makes me happy."

The tightly clenched fists of Laura unknowingly relaxed as she heard what Averill had just told her. She saw his usual beautiful smile and his eyes were warmer than usual, Laura quickly forgot about what she was thinking earlier and only thought of the words Averill had said 'It made Averill happy because I managed to get this strong...!' Laura was barely able to hold her smile inside of her; she only gave a nod towards Averill though.

Averill was the same as he observed Laura, he noticed how she relaxed and that she was holding back her happiness for being praised. 'She is quite easy to deal with. Laura will become an excellent soldier.'

But when Averill turned towards Saitama, his expression turned to his normal one and his eyes went sharper than usual. "I told you that I will give you what you want; battles where you can improve and die in. But it seems like that you have not put your mind on it till now. If I had not shown up, you would have died, not enough with that, everyone here would also have died too because of your arrogance of not believing there are others that are stronger than you." Averill's words were quite harsh towards Saitama, but Averill knew that was what Saitama needed to hear.

Saitama lowered his head slightly as he gazed at the floor, he wasn't angry for being scolded like that by Averill, but there was another feeling welling up inside of himself. Saitama then slowly raised his head and gazed into Averill's sharp red eyes. "I. I will never lose again… NEVER…" Saitama's voice was way deeper than normal, he knew that he had lost the battle against Spectre and his clones. It wasn't a close battle either, he had lost miserably even whilst Laura had supported him.

The feeling that Saitama was feeling right now was something he could faintly remember having felt once previously in his life. It was when he first met the crab villain and being beaten up by him as he tried to protect the young boy nearby. The sensation of being beaten and having no hope of surviving managed to wake up something inside of Saitama back then, and right now, and Saitama will do anything to become stronger to not feel that any longer.
