The Many Faced Man

Chapter 1 - A Heavy Rain

The first night of the end.

The sun was setting over the horizon as the first asteroids struck. I was at a party over at my friend Andrew's house, and we were all around the campfire.

I saw the sky light up red, an instinctual fear seemed to resonate in the back of my mind, before I noticed, I had already begun running towards their deck.

Without even turning, I could hear countless distant impacts occurring in rapid procession. I scrambled beneath the deck and towards the crawl space beneath their house. Before I was able to get far a shockwave ran through me.

The house and deck quaked and my surroundings caved in, and it was pitch dark. Short screams and wails of agony could be faintly heard from the outside.

The shock... I couldn't say if it existed or not, but the paranoia did.

It didn't seem it would be any safer to go elsewhere and there was no guarantee the asteroid shower had stopped. I sat there in silence for a few hours after the meteors had all seemed to stop.

Though, that silence itself seemed to imply other things as well. After sitting in the darkness for so long I realized I was just causing myself to panic by thinking too much. So I laid down and fell asleep, hoping things would be better tomorrow.
