I was walking down the streets of Desil, wondering what to do with the rest of the day. I now had some spending cash, though not much compared to the price of a steel sword. I needed to get a new one, but they were expensive. I had ninety six silvers and seventy coppers at the moment. I needed fourteen silvers to pay for another week at the inn, and at least another five silvers as backup cash. That left me with seventy five silvers and seventy coppers to use on a sword. The problem was that a decent steel sword cost around two gold coins.

While thinking all of this, I found myself outside the central guardhouse. Looking up, I noticed it was one of the few buildings that were the same size as the adventurers guild. At that thought, I had an epiphany. Maybe Fendal would know someone who could help me with a sword! I decided to give it a try and entered the guardhouse.

Immediately after entering the building the atmosphere became more intense. There were some people with doc.u.ments moving between desks, while the receptionist at the main counter was helping someone file a request.

I waited behind that person, since there was no one else who seemed to be working with the general public. While I was waiting, I started looking around the room. To the left, a tens of desks were set up with people going over files ranging from missing pets to monetary issues and doc.u.ments on criminals. To my right were a few doors leading to different hallways and presumably, the temporary cells.

"Next please." The receptionist called to me once she was done with the person in front of me.

I moved up to the counter and asked, "Do you know if Fendal is available? He told me to come see him if I needed something."

"Please show me your ID card please." She said to me in a professional manner.

I took out my ID Card and after she verified my identity, she said, "Please sit by the desk over there. I will go see if he is available." She then called over someone to temporarily replace her as receptionist, and went through one of the doors to the right of the entrance.

I sat down at the desk she had pointed to, and watched the goings on of the central guardhouse for a bit. Suddenly, the doors burst open and two guards restraining a tall pale man came in.

"Git yer hands off me ye filthy pigs!" The tall man yelled as he tried to remove himself from their grasp. "I'll kill all o' yeh fer this!" He continued screaming as they moved out of view down the hallway at the end of the line of doors.

The people at the desks had barely looked up at the sudden entrance of the criminal and guards, and I was somewhat shocked. "Does this happen a lot?" I asked the man working at the desk I was sitting by.

"It's not common, but after working here for a few years, you get used to things like this." He said with a polite smile. After making sure I was fine, he continued with his work.

A few minutes later, the receptionist came back to the counter and called me over. "I'm sorry, but today Captain Fendal is very busy. He won't be able to meet with you today. However, he said that tomorrow morning he can meet with you at his favorite bar. It's in the food district. If I remember correctly, it's called Whiskey Peak. If that works for you, I'll let him know."

Well, I couldn't take any quest besides hunting slimes with my beat up sword, so I decided to meet him for breakfast at the bar. After telling the receptionist, I left the central guardhouse and went to the food district.

It was almost dinner time, so i bought some meat skewers and munched on them as I walked down the street. I could hear a bunch of food stalls yelling out their specialties and others calling out their prices.

The smells of meat and spices mixed in the air, creating a wonderful aroma. I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, enjoying the night air. I smiled, glad I was still alive, even if it was in another world.

After I finished up in the food district, it was already getting late. I got back to the inn and headed to my room. I turned on the water in the bathtub and let it fill with hot water. Once I was ready, I hopped in the tub and just soaked there for a while. It felt really good to just relax in hot water. I closed my eyes and enjoy the sensation of relaxation.

Almost fourty minutes later, I got out of the tub and tugged on some clothes. I was wondering if my magic mastery went up at all after using them this morning on the slimes. I knew that slimes themselves didn't give experience at all, but maybe magic mastery could go up since you can use magic not just in combat.

Taking out my Status Card I summoned the overlay and realized I was starting to get used to this whole thing. With a chuckle I looked at my status.

Huh. Looks like my MP hasn't fully restored yet. And the total amount went up by a bit. The skills for fire and water magic also went up by one. I guess Using magic in general will raise my MP and skill mastery. That's good to know. Closing the overlay, I laid down on my bed and closed my eyes. Tomorrow would be a busy day.
