The Moon Thief

Chapter 14: End of the Nightmare

"I will...tell...but...first ...destroy me ..." Spiritual body growled.

"What happened to you?" Heinald tried to calm down and asked.

"Betrayal!" The spiritual body roared, then pointed his hand at Heinald. "Destroy... me ... I will... tell you ... the exit ...and... give ...you...my...precious..."

"What are you talking about?" Heinald frowned.

"... Destroy...the...Obelisk!" The spiritual body pointed to the obelisk. "Sin...Stone... bound...and..tortured...me...hundreds..of.. years...Inside..golden box...something...precious..."

"Sin Stone!" Heinald's eyes widened. He learned this stone in one of the books his grandfather owned. The Sin Stone was a stone used to imprison or gather spirits. It was a very difficult item to find. That red stone was actually a Sin Stone!

"I will destroy the obelisk, but first say exit!" Heinald narrowed his eyes.

"The map... this...room...marked.. the crown...the...precious...answer...is...Secret..." The Spiritual Body pointed to the table ahead.

Heinald went right away and started looking for the map on the table. However, there were hundreds of books, scrolls and a golden box on the table, yet he managed to find the map. He quickly started to examine the map. The tunnel networks and where they were going were detailed. Heinald realized that here was actually an underground city and began to wonder more how such a place was built.

"Now ... destroy... me!" The Spiritual Body growled.

Heinald nodded.

He drew his sword and cut the obelisk. When the obelisk split in two, the red glowing symbols and the Sin Stone were extinguished. A strong wind began to blow throughout the room, the bond between the spiritual body and the obelisk was disappearing. In a few seconds the spiritual body also disappeared with the wind.

"Alright... I can get out of here." Heinald leaned against the wall and tried to gather his thoughts with his head in his hands. He didn't know if Leina was still alive or dead. But he wouldn't look for her. This place was full of dangers, and a new enemy could appear at any moment. The most sensible move he would make would be to leave this place immediately. He stood up and envisioned the map. One glance was enough for him to memorize the entire map down to the finest detail. He immediately started calculating the way he would go.

"The room where I am now must be the place marked with a crown ..." Heinald muttered. He took action to leave the room he was in, but remembered something at the last minute. He immediately collected whatever was on the tables and bookshelves and stored them in the dimensional pocket of his robe including Sin Stone and golden box.

Heinald started to move on through the exit way which was indicated on map. When he move through the complex tunnels, he realized that this place was actually a small underground city. On the map, everywhere was detailed.

"Hm? What is that?" Heinald saw a body lying on the ground ahead, and his eyes widened as he approached.

"Leina!"

Heinald went over to her and checked her breath and body. She wasn't hurt, she probably blackout from exhaustion. Heinald immediately grabbed her and continued to move through the tunnels nonstop for several hours. Eventually he had come out of the tunnels and made his way through Sundawn Caves. But he was worried,he did not know that the damn spider was alive or dead. There was no way he could fight a Magical Beast.

Fortunately, events did not develop as Heinald feared, and they left the Subdawn Caves without any problems. Heinald never thought he would miss the sun so much. He inhaled fresh air and exhaled relaxed. When he looked around he saw that he was in the middle of a wooded area. He immediately took out Shadow's horn and blew it.

He leaned against one of the trees and waited for his horse. Leina in her arms was still unconscious. Heinald immediately pulled the Low Level Healing Potion from the pocket of his robe and poured some into Leina's mouth. After a few minutes Leina slowly began to open her eyes. She murmured something, but what she said was not understood. When she recovered a little, she immediately reflexively tried to stand up, but she lost her balance and fell.

"Hey, calm down...calm down." Heinald quickly grabbed her. She did not yet understand what was happening.

"Heinald!" Leina immediately hugged him and started crying. Poor girl was so scared. If Heinald had not found her by chance, she would most likely die there.

"Its okay. Its done..." Heinald tried to calm her down.

"I...I was chased by spiders and i could not find you. You disappeared suddenly,i did not know what to do..." Leina continued crying.

"Calm down! We are safe now,I found you fainted. I embraced you and got you out of there. Don't cry anymore, try to calm down." Heinald tried to comfort her.

It took Leina a few minutes to calm down, her eyes swollen from crying and she looked quite exhausted.

"Alright, can you tell me what happened?" Leina asked.

"We were hallucinated by the fog in the room we entered.

As I understand it, you were chased by spiders and I was chased by snakes.

When I regained my consciousness, I found myself in a room I didn't know.

After wandering around,I found a map and figured out that it shows the entire tunnel network.I found you walking through the tunnels." Heinald didn't want tell everything.

There was a long silence.

"Do you think everyone is dead?" Leina asked.

"Probably." Heinald exhaled loudly.

"Where are we now?" Leina asked.

"I don't know. I blew Shadow's horn,he'll be here soon. When he comes,we get out of here." Heinald scratched his chin.

Shadow arrived at the end of half an hour. Heinald and Leina got on Shadow and started to move forward. After a short journey, they encountered a small town.

"Do you know this town?" Heinald asked.

"No." Leina shook his head.

They moved forward the narrow streets of the town until they found an Inn. The Inn they found was pretty empty as it was around noon. The innkeeper immediately bowed respectfully when he saw two Apprentice Ainsars.

"What town is this?" Leina asked.

"Yttra Town, my lady." The innkeeper answered respectfully. Yttra Town was located 20 miles west of the Subdawn Caves. Heinald ordered the innkeeper to prepare two rooms, and the most delicious food. Both are very tired and hungry.

Heinald went to the room prepared for him and took off and immediately took a bath. After the Rinemoth Mansion, the bathroom of this inn seemed quite simple, but now he was not in a position to complain. After leaving the bathroom, he ate the delicious food that came to his room, lay down on his bed and went to sleep. Before he went to sleep, he had warned the innkeeper that no one would bother him.

It was dark when he woke up,not sure how long he had slept. He threw some firewood into the small fireplace under the window and made a fire. Although sleeping was good for his physical exhaustion, his mental fatigue was still on. The events he experienced had mentally broke him.

Suddenly he remembered the remains he had obtained. He removed all the remnants he had stored in dimensional pocket of his robe and began to examine them.In front of him were many books and scrolls. Moreover, there was Sin Stone and the golden box. He read all the books and parchments in front of him until the morning. Thanks to his eyes, this has never been difficult. Heinald's reading made him feel excited, astonished and frightened.

Heinald obtained interesting information from various sources he had read. Previously, he thought that all sorts of magic could be done with Magic Energy, but that was not possible. There were three different types of magic and energy;Elemental,Dark and Mystical.

The human body was originally created by Elemental Energy,so Ainsars were able to transform the Magical Energy from their spirits into Elemental Energy and dominate the elements. However, in order to rule the other two types of magic, they had to accommodate the other two types of energies in their body. Not much was known about Mystical Energy and Mystical Magic. Ancient Ainsars had some knowledge, but a terrible war between them destroyed many secrets they discovered with them and many legacies they left behind. The cause of this war would remain an ancient secret in the dark pages of history.

However, there was some known about Dark Magic. It was more dangerous and deadly than most elemental spells. It was difficult to defend, because it was unknown to most Ainsar. An Ainsar had to have Dark Energy piece in his body to perform Dark Magic. If they gathered enough Dark Energy pieces in their bodies, they could transform their Magic Energy into Dark Energy.

As he understood from a diary he read, 500 years ago, a cult called Melrungan built that small underground city deep in the Subdawn Caves. The Melrungan Cult had been banished by other Ainsars for dealing with Dark Magic. Therefore, they built a center deep in the caves and continued their research there. The leader of the Sect was a Level 3 Ainsar known as Runmoag Rastell.

There was no detailed note about how the Sect was destroyed but Heinald already understood what had happened. That spirit body was Runmoag Castell. He had spoken of some kind of betrayal, most likely one of them had betrayed the sect and caused them to disperse. Runmoag Castell's punishment was that his spirit was imprisoned in the Sin Stone.
